Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Oh no foxes that does sound very hot. I never realised before DC how hard it actually is to keep them out of the sun at times.

It’s the weekend, so no missions or zone work unless you want to!

We are in zone 2 this week which is the kitchen.

foxessocks · 08/07/2018 22:06

I just put a lot of factor 50 on both of us and dd had a huge sun hat on! She was fine though, doesn't bother her! I was melting.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 22:16

I can't cope heat anymore.just feel like I about to faint if out indirect heat of the day..I try stay in 11-3
In high summer I can be out n about by 7am,so still get my fair share daylight, added bonus I don't need suncream( orburn) get my vitamin d and don't get too hot and sweaty

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 05:01

Morning! I'm awake with rather nasty ovarian cyst pain. Oh joy. Tis all we need currently. Just trying to manoeuvre myself out of bed to get painkillers, without waking the furry who will bark and wake everyone if he hears me creeping about!

Foxes I can't imagine that the petting animals were enjoying the heat either!

Zoo I'm with you re: this weather. Just can't tolerate it all! (And there are coolish spots in this house too; although it gets hotter and hotter as you climb the stairs.). I think I would die if I couldn't open windows; have them open all winter too! I wonder if there is some sort of cat proof device you could get that keeps kits in but allows air through?

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 05:03

Ta for links "Toostressy*!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 05:32

I'm looking into it *SC"
I nearly expired seeing a little grey tabby bottom thru that top window.had she fell would've been straight into concrete 😟

Well,I'm up.
Need find hall stairs and landing and do living room just in case D's school swoop in today

Think it's ment be cooler here tom(was 29 here yesterday.ment be 27 today and a gloriously improved 23 tom)

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/07/2018 06:27

Forecast between 21 and 23 here today depending which app you believe. One predicting showers! We will see about that!

So im going to attempt the bootcamp but do the days in a different order. Stripped and remade all beds except my own yesterday so feel bedrooms is a good place to start!

I need to go to tesco this morning though to spend the school uniform trial voucher. Other people on the trial have struggled to find stock so we will see how that goes!

Just me and the smallest dc up right now!

Think i'll make a brew and try the power of 3!

1 - get dressed
2 - strip bed
3 - washing on the line

Hope your pain improved sc and that school leave you alone zoo

Oh and thanks for the well wishes re the job. It is less exciting and more scary. Last time i was working home life was chaos. But although we can manage day to day with me not working we are struggling to do nice things - holidays etc

foxessocks · 09/07/2018 07:13

sc the petting animals were put away in the shade with their paddling pools! Too hot for them so the dc played games instead (in the sun!) I was relieved for the animals but confused as to why we weren't allowed some shade !ConfusedGrin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/07/2018 07:39

Morning all. Hope everyone is ready for another organised, productive and efficient week with sparkling clean kitchens or not.

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/07/2018 08:11

We are still being predicted nearly 30C today. Which is a major pain in the ass as today is the only possible day to do a massive deep clean of a room and a minor clean of another ds out the door cold shower it is then.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 08:12

Fireballs?!Confusedhe's a cat not a dragon!!Grinobvs furballs and I did clean it up but forgot to add that

And need clean bathroom

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 08:51

Sorry about the pain sc

It’s so bloody hot I wouldn’t blame the cat for fireballs tbh 🐱🔥🙀

Seriously need to get my butt in gear, DH and DD1 are over at the new house waiting for delivery. I need to get the rest of us ready and try and think what we need to take over there in order to get a few bits done.

I feel a little refreshed, baby has slept a 4-5hr stretch four nights running, dare I hope this is it?

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 09:13

Well that’s completely fucked up today’s plans - and several other days. Ikea are now not delivering until July 20th. The day before we move in.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 09:29

Wtf?!cag why??
Bathroom, hall, stairs and landing are presentable not krypton factor assault course status

Living room floor swept and washed
Need declutter dining table a bit,but to hot and knackered.need stop for a bit..

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 09:29

And forgot to add Flowersfor SC earlier

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 09:34

Didn’t give a reason! They took the money happily enough, a couple of days ago

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 09:36

I’m really not sure what to do. DH is just going to attempt to strim the lawn, since he’s there anyway (although forgot an extension lead so not sure he will be able to do it all) and then coming back. DSD was on her way over to help too, so they are all coming and maybe we can get some more stuff done here. But I’m all stressed from the change of plans and have no clue where to start.

Hope the school don’t visit, that’s ridiculously invasive! Is he feeling any better yet

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/07/2018 09:44

Ds is annoyed that he is not being allowed to do PE. Bloody child. Off school with serious injury last week and wants to do PE this week. Nope.

It looks like it might be cooler than I had feared today.

Cag Angry take a deep breathe. This might work for best, especially if you can make use of the extra hands to make significant progress at the old house.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 09:59

cag still a delicate shade of green when moves..whites of eyes are yellowing as struggling get him to drink must.only wee X2 yesterday.not been today yet😟I've stood over him to have a little bit.he had 2 crackers yesterday.hes not actually vomited at all just feels really sick when moves☹️
DP been carry him to loo.hes go have to go back to crawl n push bowl later as DP back to work lunchtime...

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 10:00

Glad it's a touch cooler for you hills

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 10:09

Oh poor lad :( did they give him any medication? When I had labyrinthitis the first time they gave me something. I have a vague recollection it was an antihistamine or something? Or there’s an anti nausea thing called cyclisine or something.

Hope it is indeed cooler for you hills

Right well DH has taken charge and is clearly not in as much of a flap as I am. He’s done what strimming he could reach, and then they’ve unpacked some of the smaller plastic boxes of games and books, they will bring back the empties on the bus (they stack easily).

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 10:16

Thank you everyone. I am feeling better I think; the pain has gone anyway. 25°c here today but feels warmer. Cool tomorrow though; yeah!

Oh no CAG that's rotten of them! [anger]. (Ikea can be so high-handed when it comes to customer service and you can't speak to an actual human when stuff goes wrong! They never give a ruddy reason!) Hope you can salvage something from the day x

Zoo arf at fireballs! Grin That's an amazing list you have achieved so early on! Agree that a school visit is mahoosively intrusive. I'm amazed they do this (doesn't happen here).

Hills you've got to admire your ds's enthusiasm! Grin

Hills and I'vegothepower good luck with deep clean and boot camp respectively!

I'vegothepower hope school uniform in stock so you don't have a wasted trip.

Glad to hear petting animals were shaded Foxes, agree a bit mad that humans weren't (esp infants). Hope no ill effects today!

I wish Toostressy Grin

Going to (finally) start by bathing the dog and avoiding mess I made yesterday. Going slowly. Still v worried about DH who is off to the doc again today because something is not right and I know he'll come back saying "doc says all is fine". We trusted all the tests (which come back fine) last time; so why is it still happening? The anxiety is getting to me a bit.

One positive: getting through the wool wash pile by increments! This sunshine is very good indeed for drying thick winter woollies in a flash, when normally they would take days and days!

Heartfelt but subdued wing flaps to everyone.

Off to dunk the furry!
