Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Omfg it is toooooo fucking hot

Cagliostro · 08/07/2018 15:42

Well thankfully the dance thing only lasted half the time predicted. And DD got two medals! Yay!

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/07/2018 16:48

Yes it is ive it is too fucking hot, far too fucking hot.

Cag - well done dd.

Moving has not happened, heat stroke type headache that is annoying me today. low level and enough to bug constantly, too much to ignore but not enough to incapacitate. Hmm

I should probably tackle that laundry thing...

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 16:54

Good that you had a lazy morning Toostressy!

Whey hey and congrats to your DD Cag!

Couldn't agree more I've!

I've returned to have a mid-decluttering whinge.

Decided to tackle shelves in tv/play room. Now everything is all over floor! (sob). A pile of boardgames we want to keep. A pile for dd's treasure chest. A teetering pile of toys/games that have to be checked through in detail to see if they are complete or not [sigh] - that's a two hour job at least. A load of other stuff that has to be taken to recycling. Electronic cars without their electronics. Half-complete craft sets with bits missing. The list goes on ...

I'm tempted to dump a lot of it in "ordinary" rubbish but you get fined here if you get caught.

DD (beyond lifting a languid arm to indicate whether she wants something kept or not) is being pretty stroppy, unhelpful and adolescentish frankly.

Somewhere in my mind I keep seeing Flylady is fluttering about waving a purple duster, cackling "I told you not to take out more that you can't put back in one hour, mwah, mwah, mwah"

Gah.

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 16:56

X post - sorry you are feeling grin Hills Brew

How is it going in boy dungeon Zoo?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/07/2018 18:43

I totally understand the decluttering stress SC. Grin at the image of FlyLady coming to tell you off! I make the mistake of regularly occasionally reading threads about how to be tidy and decluttering on here and always want to sob when people say it is easy. How?????!!!!!

Good luck with laundry Hills. Star for your DD Cag Smile.

And yes, Ive, it is definitely too fucking hot Sad.

Ploughing through evening routine here. Am concerned dishwasher does not seem to be working properly Confused. Hoping for early ish bedtime here as has been a busy weekend and I need to get stuff ready for another week of end of term madness.

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/07/2018 18:51

Sooooo. I may be starting a new job in the next couple of weeks IF they can meet my needs re flexi working etc. This means i really need to sort my act out. Im going to attempt the organised mum bootcamp thing again.....

Cagliostro · 08/07/2018 19:03

Gosh that’s exciting ive well done!

Oddly enough steg I sent DD to the shops for the first time today, it’s near the park and obviously she has been in alone before as well, but this was the first time it was literally sending her from home, with a few specific things to buy for me. Yay! I did get a text asking if she could spend the change on sweets though :o

Cagliostro · 08/07/2018 19:04

I joined UFYH by the way :) and will read the Moving tips on there 💐

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 19:28

I survived...

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/07/2018 19:41

Well done zoo

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 20:06

It wasn't pretty tbh.2binbags of crap equals a floor(he had midi sleeper and has curtains to "hide" mess- I did try and file some the stuff under there)bookcases tidy, zoflora floor has eliminated the fetid boy stench!

Just need get up at ridiculous o'clock and sort hall, stairs and living room case want come in n chat to me

I've hope it goes the way you want it to
Cag least she ask before spend changeGrin
Hills hope feel bit better

I see ment be quite warm tom, then cooler here Tues thank fuck

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 20:25

I failed at finishing one ruddy section of playroom Blush. Didnt help that DD (who has been grounded this w/e) has insisted on locating herself in there all day (sprawled on sofa, headphones in) without really helping. Got exasperated with her and mess and went to cook supper instead (salmon, new pots, salad) leaving a huge heap of mess for tomorrow and a mess in the kitchen and a mess in half finished boudoir.

Bloomin' well done Zoo Star and here's hoping it will be cooler soon!

Wow I've hats off to you; good luck with job and hope you can sort flexi requirements.

Well done to your dd CAG (makes note to send DD off to shops more often)!

Hope the washing machine hangs in there Toostressy and good luck with busy week ahead.

[SC hangs head in shame and shuffles off to stand in corner]

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/07/2018 20:27

Oh wow Ive, exciting / scary stuff! Well done on sorting the dungeon zoo Star.

DD2 asleep
DD2 despite being busy all weekend is not particularly tired but we did tell her she needed to rest in her room from 7:30pm after such a full on weekend. She is settling to sleep now I hope.

I am not holding out any hope for cooler weather Sad.

Xpost SC. Sorry to hear of mess everywhere! It’s the dishwasher that is dodgy. It is 7 years old and tbh I fear it is starting to break but as you say, just hoping it hangs in there for now.

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 20:31

Sorry Toostressy meant dw not wm! I live in dread of ours breaking down!

foxessocks · 08/07/2018 20:38

Congrats on the job Ive

The birthday party at the petting zoo was way too hot. We had nearly two hours outside in the sun with absolutely no shade at the hottest part of the day!Shock

Tomorrow I need to do all the housework. I was going to work but ds is a bit under the weather and grumpy so decided to let him play at home while I attempt to tidy around him. Dd at nursery all day tomorrow. Then we've got the dentist. Oh yes very much back to reality! Grin
