June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Uggggh unexpected visitors! I hate that. Although I’m hoping a new spacious house will rid me of The Fear. Some hope!

Thank you shannara I’m going to start writing lists this afternoon I think. They won’t necessarily be that useful in that we don’t know details of time frame or house layout yet, but I have SO much in my head right now and I have barely moved from the sofa as I just feel completely swamped and aaaaargh.

Right. Really need to put a wash on, then will take the Caglets and neighbour kids to the park so I can pop over to the Coop. Anxiety is making me crave carbs on a whole new level!

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/06/2018 15:23

New kitchen is wonderful shannara!
It's just so new and sparkly that the rest of the house looks tired.
Still "dust busting" every day and finding dust I never found first time round, if you get what I mean.
Will have to decorate downstairs now and new carpets I think, just to try to blend in!
Btw! Can't remember who got the unexpected guests! But seriously, who turns up without calling these days. I would never do it, even with my best friend and wouldn't be pleased at all if someone just turned up at mine. Nothing to do with house tidy or not! It's just bloody rude.

It was me honkySmile I know, I hate unexpected visitors too. They were just in the area apparently and thought they'd see what we were up to! Well I'd just got back from town and trying to put all the shopping away, dh was just putting ds down for a nap who heard the doorbell then wouldn't go to sleep and dd was having a great big poo Grin so yeah great timing!! Anyway, they didn't stay long think they may have sensed the chaos...

Dinner tonight is chicken thighs in cream, mushroom, white wine sauce with roast baby potatoes. What's everyone else having tonight?

Ive we have lived in our house for much longer than a year and we have heaps and heaps of work still to do - a year is nothing! Plus you have a lot of children Grin

Report
Bowerbird5 · 02/06/2018 20:16

We need to do some work on ours been here thirty years!

Cags I would look out for some large, bright stickers. Give each kid their own colour and stick on box when packed. If you can't find any buy cheap teacher stickers white 100 on a roll and get kids to colour in. Saves time instead of writing. Then put piece of coloured card on each door to match box to room!

Sheep - I have to confess I lived and worked on a farm for a year. It came flooding back esp how stupid sheep are.

Well today it dawned on me that part of the reason it takes me so long to clean is I have a lot of stuff. Lots presents and I keep and display most. I have today removed everything off the window sill and other surfaces and put them all on the small table. I have removed all the jigsaws from the cupboard(some I have had for years) and have dusted. It took me about 3minutes to dust. I have decided to keep it like that for the rest of term. Then think about what I put back. I have about three things out.It looks very bare and not my house. Going to try and target other rooms one by one. Might need several big boxes. If I get my room and downstairs done it will be a big plus.

Hall. I have 8 school bags in the hall. I was going to sort them in hols.I haven't been near any school stuff. I feel great. Not stressed at all. Went to friend's for lunch and she took me for drive and a cuppa and cake.It was lovely. She was with me the night the ambulance came. I have eczema GP thinks it is stress related.I wish i had another week off to sort stuff.

I've lived the house 12 years and the mess accumulated as zoolets grew(lil zoo was born here) and dp continued over buy constantly, not just birthday and Xmas(D's second Xmas he was still opening gifts boxing day as was so overwhelmed by them all)but random presents too....I find hard part some things(playmobile, orchard board games etc)I reason with myself will keep for grandkids, but where to put them in the meantime?!
I still grieve a little for all the picture books we gave away to their old primary....

Thank you all for the tips!

I remembered mum gave me a couple of new notebooks the other day so I shall use one for all the moving plans. Maybe the A4 one with elastic as then I can shove any paperwork into it as well. Will be good to have it all in one place.

I deserve a medal (a chocolate one would do nicely) for NOT ordering a takeaway or using a ready meal tonight. I was just sitting there like WTF do I cook for ages. Cobbled together bits from the fridge though. Cheesy wrap, hotdogs, salad veg type meal.

Hello all, I have a functioning phone Grin. Have skim read the thread and am sending big wing flaps to all. Hello to newbies and returners BrewCake.

Cag, I’ve only skim read as I say so somebody might have said it already but Flylady actually has some tips for moving on her website. Some I’m sure are unrealistic but some may help here

Oh cool! I shall read that when I need calming down next. This evening I spent some time usefully colouring a nice “the big move 2018” title page for the notebook. :o It was actually useful TBF in that it calmed me down!

Got a few hours tomorrow morning before DH goes to work, need to tidy up although if I get the chance to have a lie in I’m taking it. Then a friend is visiting and we will go out for lunch.

Welcome to Honkytonkwoman!

Busy day here; hope everyone ok and had a good 'un.

Links for Sunday coming up ...

The third baby step for Sun June 3rd is here. Repeat baby-steps one and two.

I have no idea if we are still in Zone 1 tomorrow here because the site is still not updated. But if you do Zone work at weekends, spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 1, here is the detailed cleaning list for that area.

No missions on Sundays!

Sunday's daily focus is: renewing your spirit ie doing something just for yourself that makes you feel refreshed

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Hope you can, if at all possible, ring fence just a few minutes of time for yourselves this Sunday (if not longer!).

Seriously turn my back on you lot for a few days and you are herding sheep, acquiring new houses and recruiting a cart load of new fledglings.

loooooooong drive home
unload car into lounge
transfer pictures onto computer.
catch up with social media
consider starting the washing
consider doing a cooked breakfast

Had to drink caffiene late to ensure the concentration span for driving in torrential rain so consequentially pretty wired atm.

Sunday's to do list:
empty car for MOT
laundry
check ds' homework for the hol
ignore ds
lie in
But not necessarily in that order of course Wink
