If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Evenin' all! DD did indeed manage her test Zoo thank you very much for asking. Was very proud of her for handling it all like a trooper! And according to gp, dh is fine too, but not quite convinced as this is the third time this has happened. She's an excellent doctor though, very thorough and highly intelligent, so I trust her judgement.

That's just fab about the house Cag! How very tense though! The question is I guess, do you want that one? And how much choice do you have ie if you turn it down do you risk losing the other one too? Good luck with it all! Deep breathes and small steps, and all of that! x

I am bushed. Have not been to bed for more than x 2 40 min nap since I got up at 6am on Thurs morning!

Ta da:
DD ironing.
DD packed lunch.
Called doc and arranged appt.
Furry walk x 2
Called headmistress.
Spoke to friend.
Called colleague.
Collected stuff from office.
2 loads laundry x 2.
Accepted two courier parcels and gave them to right people.
Spoke to sisters x 2
Made guest bed up for sil.
Furry walk x 2
Drove dh to doc and back.
Cooked supper for everyone - spinach, bacon and mushroom warm salad with garlic and lemon dressing followed by baked spuds, smoked ham, mini cheese blocks and carrot salad.
Tidied up a bit but not totally
Locked up and about to crash!

G'night all!

Links for tomorrow!

The second baby step for Sat 2nd June is here . And yes, it's the controversial one about wearing lace up shoes in your home. Some of us do, and some of us don't [Newcomers: here is the theory behind this rule! (Scroll down.) But best to make up your own mind!

I have no idea if we are still in Zone 1 tomorrow here because the site is still not updated. But if you do Zone work at weekends, spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 1, here is the detailed cleaning list for that area.

No missions on Saturday because it is the weekend!

Saturday's daily focus is: family fun!

The habit for June is: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/june/ keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly!

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found here in the flight plan www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120

A good tip from "Decluttering at the Speed of Life" by Dana K White (my latest reading matter) is that the purpose of a container is to contain! Sometimes, a well chosen storage unit that fits a space really does work wonders, but generally it is not a good idea to go out and buy loads more boxes and storage systems to fit a collection of things (toys/books/games/craft materials for example) that is already too big to fit happily in to your home. So the golden rule is to first chose the container or storage system that fits happily in to its designated space, then limit the things that go in it to the size of that container or unit! When it starts to overflow, declutter again!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks all. Am feeling all manner of things ATM.

In a word yes, we want the house! There is a risk to turning somewhere down - you get, I think, two chances, and if you don’t accept the third place then you’re downgraded (fair enough IMO). TBH though we have been becoming more and more desperate to move lately. We know the main criteria are met. Anything else is up for discussion really, there are several things that are nice to have, but really the place would have to be awful for us to turn it down. We are pretty certain it’s a new build which eliminates a lot of potential issues. Primarily though, the location is unbelievably good. Like, I can’t actually believe it. Very close to town but not so much it feels urban, right next to a HUGE park that we love, walking distance to many places. The time saved on our many activities each week would be astronomical - even if we walk, which would be a far better use of time than waiting around for more buses. If the location was ‘meh’ we might be a bit more fussy about the house but I have a feeling we will say yes no matter what.

Cagliostro · 01/06/2018 23:10

ta da
✅cry (in a good way)
✅freak out several times throughout the afternoon
✅mattress protector etc washed and dried
✅DH put together the cotbed. She looks so tiny in it!
✅phone post office
✅message eBay seller about missing item
✅order yet more textbooks.

Think I’m done with textbook ordering (eBay is both brilliant and dangerous) now ready to start “term time” on Tuesday. Although we need a plan as to how we will balance home ed with the need to get shit sorted. Loads to do but it’s also vital we don’t lose momentum on the progress they’ve made academically.

Night all. I don’t feel like I’m going to sleep well 🤯

Bowerbird5 · 02/06/2018 00:12

Oh Cags how exciting. I hope it is great.

Amazing news on the house cag! So exciting! What is the time scale like with these things.

Dp is working today. I have to take all the dc to one dcs activity. Its a long walk. I really should learn to drive.

Place marking!

Cagliostro · 02/06/2018 10:20

Hi honky :) and any other newbies/returnees I missed in the craziness of yesterday!

Ive are there no buses to break the journey up? It’s a bit miserable having to drag the others along isn’t it. Must admit I’m not looking forward to that as Cagletini gets older. Everyone was like OMG how are you doing that with a newborn, but that was waaaay easier, as she just slept in the buggy or sling. Now it’s starting to get more challenging as she is into everything and doesn’t nap much.

Cagletini didn’t sleep in her bed long. Thankfully we slept in together until half nine though. I am now hangry.

Feel like a rabbit in headlights this morning. We know we won’t get anything done today anyway (DH is about to take DD to ballroom and then he goes on to work, Caglets will play out all day). I’ve said we can walk to the shops/park later but not expecting to manage anything practical.

Not sure about time frame (annoyingly once the bidding closes they remove the info from the website) but turnaround is generally very fast. There will have to be a huge overlap - we’ve only just paid rent on this place. But we plan to use this to our advantage and move stuff over gradually. If it is a new build I guess we won’t need to decorate and there may even be habitable flooring (in older places they rip up the carpets between tenants so you have to buy new). But we have a lot of furniture to buy so we can get that delivered there beforehand and have space to build it etc. Also a lot of toys, books etc are already packed in tubs (SO glad we made a start on that) so we could move a lot of that over immediately which would free up some space here to sort other stuff. Lots of friends/family have offered to help with their cars, yay!

I really hope we can actually view it on Monday, DH reckons we won’t as it’s housing association rather than council so we will just be arranging stuff/showing ID when we go to the town hall. I’ve arranged for the Caglets to stay with the neighbours as they are on inset day.

I think it will become a little easier once we know exactly what’s in the house already. Plans can become more detailed.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 02/06/2018 10:27

No buses go that way unfortunatley cag Im keeping ds3 up even though his tired so he will go to sleep on the way there and hopefully stay asleep! This is the plan.

We moved a lot of stuff gradually when we moved but tbh we still struggled on moving day! Didnt help that a lot of work being done on house wasnt finished. It was like living it a squat at first Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2018 10:42

cag I had a friend here who got housing association place.told her Fri,viewed it on the Monday afternoon and was moving stuff in by the Friday...
Our council gives you one week on acceptance to switch properties(empty and ensure old one is clean and garden good)was very very stressful when I moved to this house as the news of the move was quite sudden and I had dd1(10),dd2(2) and D's(5 months).....
We have way more crap now,not sure I could move in a week again without expiring😂😂😂😂

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2018 10:46

That sounds scary.im sorry if that causes anxiety.its not ment to...
Tada
Cats fed
Wash on
Breakfast
Sweep kitchen floor
Littertray/empty bins
Walk local SDA George in search school shoes for lil zoo as hers leak when rains.£6 are hardly sturdy but should make last 7weeks hopefully...DP will go get them tom as he's paying!
Hung up wooly jumpers to dry
More wash owipe bath n sink
Cleaned kitty snot offliving room windows
Wiped kitchen surfaces

I really need scrub taps of limescale on kitchen sink....

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/06/2018 11:07

Thanks cag, I postmarked so I can come back later as going out now.
Just had a new kitchen out in, plaster taken off down to the bricks and totally new Central heating, New Boiler, pipes and radiators.
Had to move out for two weeks and came back to dust, like you wouldn't believe.
It keeps coming back every day! 😤
So, thought I might get some tips and encouragement on here.
Be back later! 👋

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/06/2018 11:07

Ha! Placemarked!!!!!

Cagliostro · 02/06/2018 11:12

Was your friend already in a council/HA place before moving? We are in private rented currently, so presumably we will still be allowed to have our stuff here as long as we pay (if we give notice before next month’s rent we would legally be tenants until July 28th). I hope! I don’t see how they could insist we literally move in straight away as long as we pay when they tell us to (my mum has offered to help with any overlap in rent bless her ❤️). It occurred to me that we could actually move quite quickly so we benefit from the better location/space etc sooner, but then keep going back to this house to move more stuff Hmm I think we will still need a proper removal van at some point during the overlap anyway.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2018 11:44

Yeh,cag was council to HA
You at advantage there then as can move in at steadier pace as long as pay rent both places iyswim

Tada
Cleaned kitchen sink(need get limescale off taps.suggestions?)
More was in drier, more on(done stuff fold n put away)

I have made a "brave" decision...
I've sentzoolets to mini park 5mins away alone.silly I know as dd2 14,ds12 and lil zoo 10 now.dd2 goes out meet friends sometimes,D's only goes to n from school alone.lil zoo doesn't go out either
After the stabbing locally the plans I'd had to let them out were put on hold but they need to be independant and it did occur in a known trouble spot(drugs) set up of flats etc
I can't help be a fretting Freddy.....
Dd2 didn't want go(phone related as said couldn't take that) she claim lost watch so couldn't know when come back.i triumphantly produce D's watch n he time keeper!lil zoo champ at bit to go unsupervised.rules are-dd2 not to be mean if I'm not present (possibility n the lil ones warned to tell as soon as return).come back if horrid teens are there.ds can leave by himself, but lil zoo may not and dd2 to stay with them not flounce off
They've been sent out for 40 mins until lunch

Cagliostro · 02/06/2018 11:58

Ah that’s a big step! Hope they’re ok.

Thanks for updating on the friend as well as it got me a little worried 😳 it’s annoying we will have such an overlap but I really do think it will help. Just need to figure out what order to do it all in.

Really must try and do laundry today. Also need to top up shop and phone Asda because nobody came to pick up the spare bed today 😡😡😡

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2018 12:59

They survived the trip!
Lil zoo loved the independant

I guess I'd start moving all boxed up stuffcag
I find helps label boxes with which room want to be in on arrival.label most important as such
Be inclined to start in bedrooms if doing it bit by bit, keeping only because stuff there til last minute
Lunch for every one
Wash up
Located gf banana bread recipe that's no added sugar nor uses weird ingredients so going make that shortly

Today's family dvd has been chosen as sleeping beauty, but I suspect dd2 will challenge this as "I'm way to grown up for that" sits silently transfixed once overridden by other to and watches quietlyWink

foxessocks · 02/06/2018 13:54

I need Brew. Just had unexpected visitors and the house is a tip! Blush . Been into town with the dc and went to McDonald's for lunch , they both got loudspeaker toys in their happy meals and have been marching round town shouting ATTENTION at everyone Blush!

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2018 14:12

Thanks foxes sometimes I feel I don't push them enough to do stuff on their own but at same time it's not fab neighbourhood (certain parts) and they are quite home bodies(like me)

Ta da
Made gf banana cake(in oven)
Washed up and wiped surfaces

Zoolets changes mind.101dalmations about to start...

Shannaratiger · 02/06/2018 14:15

Hi all

cag congratulations on house. We moved from council flat to house. No problems, agree with starting in bedrooms, try and keep boxes per child. We had overlap so moved big goods in 1 day and the rest steadily over about a week as had also paid rent.

zoo we have same problem here, the kids in ds's class are nice sometimes then turn the next minute. Dd won't go out without us!

Honky new kitchen sounds wonderful.

Ta Da yesterday

Picked up DH's new medication, wasn't supposed to be ready until Monday.
Vacuumed main bedroom OMG the mess under the units! Hadn't realised how easy it would be to move furniture or might have done it more often. Hmm
DS's bedding washed, even remade the bed straight away rather then rushing at bedtime!

Today

Went to Toby Carvery for lunch Blush

To Do

Something FLYing like!

Have a great afternoon everyone.
