If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Sorry, that was very "me" "me" post.

Honkywonk I love the idea of "stroppy" sandals! Good to hear you are benefiting from a bit of pampering, as you do so much for others.

Cag and Zoo and Foxes I hope you are feeling a bit better. You all seem to be loads for people who aren't feeling well. Do take care x

"Yo!" in return to I've!

Foxes dead on about perfectionism!!

Foxes and Hills hope dss' willy and toe (hopefully in right order!) are ok.

Big waves to everyone else and sorry if I have missed something vital. My head really isn't in the right place atm.

Hope you don't mind but going to post links for tomorrow now I think as dramas (a bit diminished thankfully) are still going on in the back ground here.

Have a good evening all!

The summary for Thursday 22 June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 22 for Thurs 22nd June is here. It is about building a control journal in 15 easy steps here. Some of us have and some of us haven't!

We are in Zone 4 this week : The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 18-24) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Thursday's mission is here. OK so having decluttered the surface of the bed, underneath the bed, to the left of the bed , we are now going to spend a little time decluttering, you guessed it, to the right of the bed, without becoming overwhelmed! (Well that's the theory anyway!)

The daily focus for Thursday is running errands.

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Keep going everyone! Even 2 mins focused effort is better than nothing!

That's one hell of a day.poor you, poor DD and poor DD friends(esp one in group who failed)

DS and lil zoo eaten "main" about to unwrap the Jamaican ginger cake I made today(gluten free, dairy free, fun free etc)
Fingers X it's at very least edible....

Dd2 skulking upstairs.ive decided leave her there til lil zoo goes up as she's in foulest of tempers nothing new

foxessocks · 21/06/2018 19:21

sc that sounds like some form of torture!!! (Ok exaggeration but still ShockShock how unbelievably stressful is that?! So am I right in thinking your dd passed? If so then well done to her. Her poor friend though Sad

All quietening down here. Ds just gone quiet (he is going through an "I won't be put to bed stage" and dd has gone quiet too so she's either playing very quietly in her bed or asleep. Kettle is on Brew. I'm trying not to think too much about tomorrow's emotional rollercoaster, we have a visit with my friend which will be so hard and then a school visit which is exciting but, well, my baby is starting school so soon! My friend also has the school visit with her dd and that's going to be hard for her for all the wrong reasons so I'm going to put my own emotions to one side as much as I can. Sad

Scoopofchaff · 21/06/2018 19:21

Sorry Cag, Zoo and Foxes that meant to read "you seem to be doing loads for people who aren't feeling well. Do take care x"

Zoo glad to hear your dp is being supportive!

Hope the sanding can wait until tomorrow Hills!

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2018 19:25

Bloody hell SC hope you manage to survive the chaos. What will happen to the girl that did not pass? Resist or straight repeat of year?

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2018 19:26

Going to be honest, I am glad that i did not have to survive that system I would probably still be in school with all the repeats I would have had to do. I was NOT an academic child.

Hills I don't think I'd have survived it either. Wouldn't have stood the stress of the exams themselves or the aftermath. Girl concerned will probably re-sit year unless parents decide to move to slightly less academic school (still in same state system). So unfair really when academic progress is never linear. I've known students to have surges of improvement at 15 yrs for example when they have suddenly "got" a subject. DC here have to make so many life-defining decisions so early on and then are kept in strict tram lines until they finish school. And those tram lines are either "mahoosively academic" or "trade qualifications" with not a lot of room for manoeuvre in between.

The upside of the system (desperately trying to think of some!) is that academic rigour is very much prized and the further you go up the school the more you are revered by the younger students ie academic achievement is respected. Which makes for a very good learning environment. Crap if your talents are elsewhere though of course!

Also, the pressure, is not overt - even though it doesn't sound like it from my descriptions I am sure - it is more subliminal than that. Pressure nonetheless. Teachers are generally excellent though.

Don't get me started on the art/drama/creative/music provision though! The school (unusually here) has fantastic - semi-prof art studio with fantastic art tuition - but you guessed it; you can't be artistic and academic at same time. Oh no. If you are academically intelligent, you don't have any access to art tuition at all. Which is just ridiculous as far as I'm concerned as art can be an extreme challenge for the intellect if taught correctly.

And to be fair, extra-curricular stuff such as music and sport, can be pursued on Wed afternoons when schools are shut.

Heigh ho. Just relieved it is all nearly over for another year tbh. Will be even more relieved when dd's results are confirmed for sure ... .

Bowerbird5 · 21/06/2018 21:58

Help! How do I get rid of those stupid, annoyingly ads?

Wing flaps to everyone.

Bowerbird5 · 21/06/2018 22:03

I thought it was morning!

Went to bed early as exhausted just woke up and thought it was morning. Very light here and birds are singing😳

Cagliostro · 21/06/2018 22:40

Bloody hell sc are the school actually sadists? They must know how utterly torturous that is. Surely it’d be better to make a quick phonecall to each family in alphabetical order, to say “you’ve passed but maths was a bit low” or “sorry you’ll have to resit these three” etc? Ugggh, poor kids :(

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2018 23:37

bower you will need to install an ad blocker, which ad blocker varies from browser to browser. Beware though a number of sites won't work if you don't white list the site in the settings (ie turn the ad blocker off for that site)

Cagliostro · 21/06/2018 23:52

ta da
✅decluttered a lot of bathroom stuff
✅got Caglets to part with some teddies
✅four charity bags gathered from the above
✅decided on bedding to ditch
✅emptied last of craft drawers
✅decided some stuff for the tip
✅washed and dried some outgrown baby clothes

ta didn’t
❌fold the baby clothes
❌bag up bedding to bin

So knackered after an evening out due to badgers and cadets, I have done absolutely nothing since getting home. Worth it for cadets though, DD is two weeks and and absolutely loving it. She enjoyed badgers too, which is kind of like brownies/cubs type thing but with a bit of token first aid. But cadets is proper first aid training and she is really excited. Ties in nicely with her obsession with Operation Ouch on CBBC (which I like watching for the Van Tullekens 😳😍😂)

Sports club tomorrow. Then hopefully doing stuff in the afternoon. Making progress but it’s exhausting
