If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

They also left some curtains which we will keep for now, and the kitchen and bathroom have excellent blinds that we can keep. Yay!

Sorry I will stop waffling at some point.

Kids have TKD shortly and DH and I might walk up to the pub to have a drink and chat while we write more in TMN 🗒

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/06/2018 16:22

Ds is raiding the cupboards. It will be meat balls in tomato sauce over pasta here tonight. It is a low effort kinda tea. My brain has other stuff too think about and high effort stuff would just get burnt. Blush

I might have got my proportions for tea wrong. I might have managed to cook tea for 3 nights for the boys of the house Blush Ah well at least they are very fond of this tea and won't mind so much Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/06/2018 18:14

Dd2 wants chickpeas rinsed from a tin on mix of salad and roast veg.thats as much cooking as I prepared undertake!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/06/2018 20:17

Does anyone have costco membership? Does it save you in the long run? Do you actually get things you want?

Cagliostro · 11/06/2018 21:57

Cagletini evidently does not approve of the Moving Notebook. Hmm

ta da
✅washed dried and packed another load of baby clothes
✅made a whole load of plans
✅got the ball rolling on house cleaning - agreed that a one off deep clean end of tenancy type thing is in order at the new house because the HA don’t.
✅survived an emotionally tense day!
✅TKD with DS as DD was unwell. Nice chats about the periodic table as we walked there.

DH has sports club tomorrow, then work, so not looking forward to the day TBH when there is so much to do. Home ed was hard today as they found their work difficult and I just was not in the frame of mind to help them.

Baby step no. 12 for Tues June 12th is here.

We are in Zone 3 this week: Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (June 10-16). Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 3, is the detailed cleaning list for the bathroom etc.

Tuesday's mission is: here.

Tuesday's daily focus is planning~~~~´[``[[

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Have a productive start to the week everybody!

Name changed from name ending in 'ette'. Congrats on the house Cag. I love the oven!!

Cleared the garage - council collected stuff which was too big for us to bring to recycling. Need to get cracking in zone.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/06/2018 06:04

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/06/2018 08:08

zoo depends do you value your sanity or is the stench killing sanity anyway?

I reeeally don't like mornings. Slipped on taking vit d and def not feeling rested when I wake up anymore. Very interesting. Need to be back on that then.

Just going to poke ds and run away as he starts to swear. Coffee pot is on. help your selves Brew

Bowerbird5 · 12/06/2018 08:18

😀 SC
Pre work washing today. One load out and one load washing. Hopefully out before I go.

Breakfast- bought a variety pack for £1:24 at Spar yesterday. I only bought these when camping with kids but thought ideal for my scrimping week.
Quiz cancelled last night so missed out on free chips so had to make a bit more last night.
Lunch- sliced beef and a piece of fruit.

My room is my craft room. The door has been firmly closed for a month because it is such a mess! Stuff piled up.
At the moment sitting room and bathroom very clean and tidy the rest of the house at various levels. Dining room which was tidy isn't now. DH moved stuff around to put another table in and I have emptied contents of a cupboard onto it. Jigsaws! I need to get rid of them. I love jigsaws but haven't done any for ages and some of these I have done. Will need to sort. Kids ones I was keeping are going out.

Need to catch up on reading all your posts...past 500 already 😳 Chatterboxes😄

Bowerbird5 · 12/06/2018 08:21

Love to hills but need to leave for work😉

MsForestier · 12/06/2018 08:36

Other rooms are dh's office and mine. He works from home sometimes and I don't bit of writing and home admin. My office is shared with ds (9) and he has a desk there but he's allergic to the carpet. It's also the ironing room and has an exercise bike ( unused)

Ds's room is deep cleaned every Sunday due to dust allergy so it sits slightly outside Flylady routines.

MsForestier · 12/06/2018 08:37

Do a bit of writing I mean although don't holds at the moment.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/06/2018 08:39

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/06/2018 09:04

Aargh lost long post Angry.

Short version:
Morning all, thanks for Brew Hills.
I usually ignore the zones Blush and just do where I want / need to although I can see how having a structured rotation of zones is helpful. Other room though when I do follow it is study or kids’ bedrooms. When the girls were younger I took a tip from a mum at baby group (I often wonder if people realise when they give tips or advice that you might remember it and be grateful for it years later with no way of thanking them). She had a whirlwind toddler and just did whatever room she was in with him at the time. Usually undoing the mess he was making but hopefully doing a teeny bit of decluttering along the way.
