June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Caglahuge 😂😂

Right, I’ve replied to a message about carpet cleaning. I feel a lot happier this morning as I also remembered the house has actual heating (current place doesn’t have any working heating downstairs, and only crappy electric radiators in the bedrooms)

Going to sports club for a bit so the Caglets can play in the park, need to pop over to pharmacy also, then into town to return library books, pick up a parcel and buy some storage tubs as there’s a few more things I’m ready to pack.

Also want to check something on the tenancy agreement.

Honu · 12/06/2018 09:33

This link seemed to work in the preview - my linking not very practised.

I would like to thank you all for the 'resistant carbs' idea - I watched the program and the link is to a summary article about it. We already do this a bit - we like brown rice and I batch cook and freeze it as it takes so long to cook from scratch, and I freeze sliced bread for the carers to use for DH's toast in the mornings. DH is diabetic and I could definitely do with losing some weight so I must look into this more. Has anyone any idea of a diet sheet they gave to all those people who lost half a stone in 2 weeks?

foxessocks · 12/06/2018 09:36

toostressy when it's just me and ds at home I do that! He decides where he's going to play and I just follow him around and do bits of tidying and cleaning as I go. Yesterday he was playing with his stacking cups on the bathroom floor for ages and I cleaned the whole room! He likes to "help" too so I give him a baby wipe and he cleans too and he has a toy hoover which he loves. I definitely can't blame my toddler for the reason my house isn't sparkling clean - it's just me!!Grin

Cagliostro · 12/06/2018 10:00

Ugh need to get dressed and go. I phoned the housing association and they said there is a clause in the tenancy agreement about not running a business from home. :( They did say I can discuss it in detail and tell them extenuating circumstances etc so hopefully it will be fine, it’s not like I’m running a multi million empire with loads of vans driving up to the house etc, it’s just a bit of tuition. So I’m hoping they will be reasonable about the fact that I have to WFH as I am not well enough to go and get a regular job :( and it is a real struggle getting childcare for two autistic kids as well. So it’s this or nothing. :(

I do find it rather odd they’d stop people earning money towards the rent which would make people less reliant on benefits. Just hope they are understanding about it, I don’t want to breach the agreement but I don’t want to stop tutoring either.

Giggage · 12/06/2018 10:01

Urgh,

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Woke up exhausted this morning so have no motivation and a rotten mood to boot. I've been in bed all day, I've slept, why the hell have I woken up feeling as though I've run a marathon?

So, the only thing I have done, is put some petrol in the car, had a hot chocolate in morrisons and dropped the car off at the garage with the strict instructions to not call me until they have found what is rattling and what is causing the grinding sound. This is the 4th time it's been in.

It doesn't help that the roads have recently been resurfaced so you can't hear anything rattling on these roads - I've told them to use up the petrol in the tank if needs be to take it somewhere where the roads are still rough. Typically, the bloody car hasn't made a sound today. I just hope it's not expensive to repair, the car is only worth about £400, but it's bloody reliable and I LOVE IT.

So, I'm home, with a fuck it attitude, supposed to cut the grass, wash windows and another couple of bits and I'm not doing any of it.... and don't plan to.

I'm going to eat pasta instead.

Hope everyone else has a better day.

Ooooh, CAG, that house looks brilliant - VERY envious of your new oven. Your excitement is coming across in your posts!

Hope those two posters with unwell parents get some good new soon - hope they do recover from what they have quickly.

Giggage · 12/06/2018 10:02

*I've been in bed all NIGHT, not all day.

firehousedog · 12/06/2018 10:17

Morning all.

51 posts since I last logged in yesterday afternoon Shock I had a rubbish nights sleep last night. I seem to be waking about 4.30 every morning lately. Gonna have to get some blackout curtains and something to shut up the sodding seagulls outside. The problem is it was so hot last night I don't think I got any sleep till gone midnight. Feeling like a zombie this morning.

The bathroom is allocated it's own zone I think. I can't remember.

firehousedog · 12/06/2018 11:10

ta da

swish and swipe downstairs loo
pegged out the washing
internet banking

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 12/06/2018 11:50

cag i think the work from home thing might be insurance related? It can be same with private rent.

I dont even know if ive already posted today....

I started painting and now have a headache

Ds3 has a bad chest

Happy days

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/06/2018 12:06

cag it might be to do with income?
If you qualify for a housing association/council property running a successful business raking in cash would breach the helping people on lower incomes ideal? or I could be rabbling bollocks as sleep is definitely for the weak

Yet again D's struggled sleep with blocked nose/tight chest.has til end week before ask gp for advise over hayfever affecting asthma and over counter meds not working
Lil zoo has bad pain(upped meds last night as hadn't poo 48hr) so no school.just produced(tmi alert) cowpattish so have wait and see if this amount is too much(sigh)
Dd2 sneezing madly last night.assume hay fever too but at bedtime moaning throat sore.this morning its scratchy and glands huge.shes donned shades despite be overcast and staggered off to school looking like death warmed up as she left I had scratchy throat.i now have streaming nose and tight chest.fan bloody tasticAngry

Tada
2loads wash
Clean bath n sink
Start decent cleaning front room- cleaned windows, behind sofa, wiped sofa cushions

Check online bank.pay couple bills

Tonight's tea-potatoes,cod in parsley sauce and green beans
Dd2 DEP on how she is later, she either got quorn in parsley sauce or roasted veg soup...

There a distinct aroma of fetid feet from D's room.neuther zoolets room has a floor I can see
My room a dumping ground
Neither seem appealing,so I think I will concentrate on main living areas and procrastinate think a little longer over which to tackle as my bathroom is only room in house without clutter and takes me about 30mjns at decent speed to ensure its fat fairy's standard of "company ready"
It's a pity rest house would qualify as company never dare darken my doorstep( and that's cos of the mess not just my attitude to people in my personal spaceGrin)

Scoopofchaff · 12/06/2018 12:30

Cripes! I can't keep up either Bower Grin but ...

Goth I wish I was your Tuesday friend Envy - that lunch sounds delicious! Fab list too! Star

Honu great to "see" you as ever, and glad carb resistant info helpful! The names of the doctors running the low carb regime for their patients were called Drs David and Jen Unwin and a Dr Maassarani also featured in the programme. I could only find the following information about it. That article mentions this low carb prog too. HTH!

[paracetemol and lots of power to your elbow for I've]

Firehousedog info about swish and swipe = here (scroll down). The idea is that if you do a bit of "lick" around the bathroom daily, then it doesn't build up to one huge weekly clean ifyswim! (Bathroom cleaning is not included in Mon home blessing.) However, if you look at the current links, you will see that we are currently in the Bathroom Zone (Zone 3: The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (June 10-16)) so it does get a thorough cleaning once a month ifyswim. Hope that makes sense!

Giggage I think there is a bit of a low level virus going around where you feel low in mood and physically as though you have been run over by a truck! Humid weather doesn't help. Sorry to hear car in garage again. It's such a pain and they are so expensive to fix nowadays!

Cag fingers crossed HA will be sensible when you explain the circs to them!

Foxes aw at your ds and his toy hoover! Smile

Hope day improves as it goes along Hills!

Have a good day at work Bower

Me and dd too old to benefit from it nowadays Toostressy but that's a great tip for those with toddlers!

Rushing out so apologies if I missed anyone!

x post!

Zoo¨cod and parsley sauce one of my favourites; deffo coming over to yours for supper! [SC clambers in to teleportation machine] Sorry to hear Zoolets still not on good form though.

Sympathies re: personal space! (I know this sounds utterly ridiculous when I only have one child but ... dh in and out because working odd hours and dd home at around 11.30/lunch time after her exams all week; never seem to have any time to myself atm/constant interruptions!)

Heigh ho! Onward!
