Hello everyone,
Welcome to the Flylady thread for April, where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system with baby steps, missions, daily focuses (foci?!) and decluttering. But more than that, we are a supportive bunch where we share the trials and tribulations of everyday life. We post our to do and ta da lists and chat a whole lot.
Newbies, lurkers and returners always welcome!
Back tonight with links for tomorrow!

Best wishes to all, but I'm going to log out of MN for a while due to the recent issue about a mod publishing IP addresses on Twitter! I don't think MN has a good grip on it's data at present. I'll get more flying done anyway Grin

Cagliostro · 18/04/2018 16:17

Well, having been chivvied by DH all day to be ready for a certain time this evening, he had to work late tonight, so we're still here. Not his fault but rather frustrating nonetheless.

Ta for links CAG! (I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice they were missing this morning Blush.).

Hope your hand is ok Zoo?

Saltcrust · 18/04/2018 22:14

Hills I'm too thick to understand what this security breach is all about, but this is one of the threads pertaining to it.

Cagliostro · 18/04/2018 22:29

ta da
✅helped DSD more with uni stuff. This is ridiculous in a way as, since I had to give up my degree halfway through due to illness, she is officially now further educated than me! But she does need help with grammar etc due to her LDs and the subject is something I know a lot about (thrilled and proud that she feels so strongly about autism issues due to her siblings and dare I say her stepmum too 💖)
✅washed up some stuff
✅clothes away
✅gone to bed. Night!

Cags thanks for the photo update she is gorgeous.

Sorry to hear that cotswold😥

Hospital visit was fine., thanks. Staff very pleasant and I was only in 20 minutes. Won't get results until next week.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 00:49

Thanks SC I went on a hunt and found the relevant information.
The issue in short can be summarised as:
wtf background checks do mn do?
Wtf was the person thinking they have just potentially caused themselves a hell of a lot of trouble.
dude GDPR is enforced in just over a month, how the fuck are HQ not on top of this sort of thing already?!

Seems to just be targeting one topic but I can understand why people are concerned. Fall out from this going to be interesting to watch. Particularly as none of the related threads show in trending, also I suspect that MN is not the only organisation who could get caught out by this sort of situation.

don't ask how many hours I have just lost

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/04/2018 05:16

I am up.i have not slept much /well

It will be hot today.heat makes me feel faint.

Permission to hide in a cave some where?!
feels sorry for self

Bowerbird5 · 19/04/2018 07:15

Zoo🌌🍫🍰 cave with chocolate and cake for you. Sorry to hear you're in horrible pain. Can you rest up a bit today?

GDPR ? Help.😕

Must get up NOW! Didn't get everything done yesterday.

Bathroom done.
Kitchen done. Except that RCs on the table. I avoided then ran out of time cos needed shower and time to drive / park at hospital.
Went to visit fed up friend on way home who had texted me. We went out for tea as well then I had cup of tea and bed.wish I had my old energy back, wonder where I left it. I'm always losing things!
Today, vacuum in five minutes.
Put wash on.
Tea and breakfast.
Prep school bag.
5 mins on hot spot.
Go to work, busy day.
Shopping on way home.
Try to clear RCs on table. Two hours prep for school.
Early night.

Hope those feeling under the weather feel a bit better. Weather supposed to be good so some fresh air perhaps and a shady spot for zoo.
Hope to pop in later. Wing flaps. Must feed Henny and clean out poop. I have had to keep her in large pen though she appears to fly over to escape sometimes. 3 eggs in 3 days 😄

Bowerbird5 · 19/04/2018 07:19

I've googled GDPR, feeling thick now! In my defence I have just woken up!😁

Saltcrust · 19/04/2018 07:42

Thank you for summary Hills, I get it now I think. Doesn't exactly fill one with confidence does it?

Hot water bottle (or ice pack?) for Zoo Flowers

Glad you didn't have to wait at hosp Bowerbird (waves to HennyP)

Superb step-mumming CAG!

DH and I have had lie in until 8.30 which is bordering on sacrilegious for a week day! He has got to work some more this morning but then we are having second attempt at leaving. Waves to all!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 10:00

I think in HQ's defence the person set out to do this and it is very hard to stop them if they are that committed. Proper background checks might have helped but not necessarily. Also reading the thread it is clear that whoever is advising them about the GDPR is not being sure to make sure that they fully understand the issues and severity. Which is actually really common and you would be surprised how many businesses haven't actually come to grips with it. Justine has said that the person has breached their contract so that gives some hope that they have some policies that should protect users. I suspect that it might have been this is the best person who applied (yes strong personal views but solid carer history previously so could be seen as discriminatory if background used against) but under GDPR they are going to significantly further tighten access of who gets access to what. Which basically means that we might have to be a smidge patient if the website goes through a patch of glitchyness whilst they complete the change in how data is accessed.

It is purely going to be how they are seen to handle the situation that could be a significant issue. So far it needs work for it to be classed as good but it has not yet been handled really badly. It will be interesting to see if the case is dealt with by the Data Protection people as it has already been reported by users. Because that is going to prove if this is individual or policy that is the issue. If it is policy it is worrying if it is individual less worrying. if that makes sense.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 10:06

Bower not thick but some of us have been breathing and sleeping GDPR for the last 3 months for the final stages of prep. I have one major project left to complete in the next week or so and then we are hopefully ready. Those who don't have to deal with this won't know. I know some of our customer are confused by the fact we have already rolled out the declarations of how we use their data, and are slightly bemused that they are going to get many more over the next few months as companies comply with that aspect. A lot of people had know idea of the previous data protection legislation and GDPR is just a bunch of meaningless letters to them. So being able to explain why it is important has actually been important to my role. Thankfully I am not the person who has to know the ins and outs of the exact legislation because my understanding is that it is detailed and confusing and the consequences of getting it wrong harsh.

Saltcrust · 19/04/2018 10:11

Yes that does make sense - thank you again Hills - I know why Mumsnet HQ are not being specific ATM (presumably not wanting to prejudice future outcomes) but I thought they might publish a statement/bit of guidance - but maybe too early? Anything that makes them reassess privacy must (ultimately) be a good thing though (I hope anyway).

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 10:33

I think wisely they are going to keep stum as Justine could have worded her previous reassurance better. I hope that they are going to get better advice today. Something tells me they are going to need it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 10:34

Oh and before anyone panics, that something is to do with the ICO and the fact that it was users who have reported the breach and not HQ atm. Hopefully they will shortly.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2018 11:12

"JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 19-Apr-18 11:09:11
Hi all,
We've spoken to the Information Commissioner this morning and reported the breach. We'll be reporting it to the police shortly (the Information Commissioner advised that this was a discretionary call in this case).

We'll be back with some more detailed answers to your questions about data, procedure and safeguarding shortly. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions."

For those who have been following mine and SC's chat about this. Thank goodness for better advice.

Saltcrust · 19/04/2018 11:14

Ah well that's something at least! Ta for sharing it Hills!

foxessocks · 19/04/2018 12:10

Hi everyone! Have missed a few posts hope all okay.

Ta da
Made dd packed lunch, suncream applied and dropped at nursery. They then called me to say her eyes were streaming I pointed out probably suncream in her eyes of she rubbed them , they didn't call back to think must be ok now!
Been to shops to pick up a few bits for the dc they didn't have any shoes or clothes for the warmer weather. Got a pair of shorts each, sandals, some thin trousers for dd as I thought they'd be good for nursery as less skin to have to put cream on in the summer! Also picked up another bottle of suncream for ds as he seems to be allergic to the Nivea one I got yesterday. Think dd is ok with it.
Made ds lunch cheese crackers, cheese, cucumber, grapes and a chicken satay.

All my summer prep today bound to mean it'll be cold again next week!

To do
15 minutes decluttering
27 fling in spare room
Daily routine
Swish and swipe bathroom
