Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

Middleoftheroad - no, it’s free to list on gumtree if you have a basic ad. I haven’t sold loads on there but have bought a couple of things and my sister sells quite a bit on it (she lives in a bigger city).

I’ve just dropped off another two bags at the charity shop and used a spare picture frame for a friend’s birthday present - it was new and I have put something in it, as opposed to giving him my cast offs!! Grin

CiderwithBuda · 14/04/2018 12:56

Two jackets and a fleece went into the Salvation Army Charity box this morning. I need to do a charity shop run next week. Back seat of car is full! Nearest one is closed today though.

Some more of ds’s School papers will go today - need to take them out of folders. And some magazines.

I’m really liking this approach and the encouragement from this thread, I tried Marie Kondo before but it seemed very overwhelming. I prefer room by room or a few bits here and there and just having in my head that one item a day helps is fab. So thanks .Stealth. Flowers

I totally agree with this!! I’ve never been so productive (for more than a week at a time Grin)!

Haven’t posted for ages and haven’t read all the posts but just wanted to swing by and say: I got rid of my old car! And we have half cleared the cupboard under the stairs. Slowly slowly.

Gibble1 · 14/04/2018 15:29

Old freezer now emptied and defrosting ready to list on Facebook.

namastayinbed · 14/04/2018 16:11

Clutterfreeintraining · 14/04/2018 16:25

Gibble - getting rid of a car sounds like a great achievement!! And the freezer!

Namastayinbed- very organised keeping a running total Smile

I’ve just cleared up the mess I made last night making a photo collage for my friend’s birthday and have also semi-cleared a pile of paper clutter from the kitchen worktop. In it were several forms that needed filling/paying/returning. I’ve done all but one but have run out of time now so will finifsh that off tomorrow evening.
A good day for me Smile

TheGrumpySquirrel · 14/04/2018 17:13

Another cupboard and some garden furniture out this weekend 👍🏼

StealthNinjaMum · 14/04/2018 17:24

Thanks clutter and cider the good idea was sandsnakes but I think she must have finished her declutter because she dropped off the middle of the first thread.

You're all doing really well. Clutter paper clutter is the worst, sandandsea hope your items have gone.

I can't remember if I mentioned yesterday but I found a roll of wallpaper that has been in the top of my wardrobe from before we moved in. None of the walls have it on so I have no idea why I kept it. Anyway that's in my recycling bin now.

Hi, may I join, please? I've just read through and recycled a big carrier bag of xmas catalogues/ magazines from 2016! Why do we keep this stuff?!

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 17:45

@StealthNinjaMum - Thanks! I'm currently waiting for her arrival now. I'm not too hopeful as I've messaged to confirm but she hasn't replied. We shall see.

I did do a charity shop run today though! It's great to have my car back - feels freeing.

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 17:46

Welcome, tutu! Smile

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 18:05

My buyer came! That's another 2 bulky, unwanted items gone and a little cash made. Grin

tutu112 · 14/04/2018 18:10

Thanks, SandandSun. And well done on getting another 2 items out!

tutu112 · 14/04/2018 18:12

Sorry, that should've been SandAndSea.

Namajesty · 14/04/2018 18:17

I am back with a quick name change feeling fresh and new.

~twirls~

I've used up a conditioner and some talc so they're in the recycling.
I have thrown out an old charger and some of those three pin connecting wire things. You know the red yellow white things for the TV. I don't know what on earth they're used for. I think DVD players if I remember correctly? But everything is pirated and streamed online nowadays anyway so won't be needing that Grin

I need to list some old clothing and a cosy toes (DS won't need the pram next winter).
Also need to buy light bulbs for the lamps because the old bulbs died literally years ago

A list of in&outs sounds great. I will get one started in my notes. There's something about having to write down your actions which makes you think a lot more about them.

tutu112 · 14/04/2018 18:29

Can I ask what you all do about gifts? I feel incredibly ungrateful, but there are 3 boxes of xmas gifts, birthday gifts and now even Easter gifts. I was gifted them, they are not things I would have chosen , and don't need. But they are all perfectly nice. I keep falling over all the boxes, and don't currently have room for them all.-- Partly Because of all the ridiculous piles of old clutter like old xmas catalogues.-- But I feel I should use and display them? What would you do?

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 18:43

@tutu112 - I have no problem giving unwanted gifts away, either to charity or re-gifting. Just do it!

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 18:47

@tutu112 - Just to add that I haven't always got rid of so much so easily, you just have to start. The feeling of space and freedom is worth any initial discomfort, time. There are all sorts of techniques you can try too, like taking photos first and selling them. It def helps to get a bit of cash for things and put that towards something life enhancing.

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 18:48

time? That was meant to be ime.

tutu112 · 14/04/2018 19:37

Ok, I think you are right, SandAndSea. Thanks. Going to make a start on box 1 tomorrow. There are definitely some earrings in there that can go, far too heavy and uncomfortable for me. Then I will go through some of the rest.

Fluffybat · 14/04/2018 20:07

What a fab idea! I think I might try this ☺

Gibble1 · 14/04/2018 21:35

I have no problem regifting things. I get some very questionable gifts and they go straight out.
