Housekeeping

Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

I need to do my sewing box too. I went to use it the other day and my needles were rusty! And I couldn't see to thread them.

Today's 'out' list is small but still significant:

  • 3 batteries
  • A box I was keeping "just in case" - I actually did need it for something so was quite glad to have kept it.
  • A cuddly toy which was a gift from my ex. It had been stored away for years so it was time but, he had a name and was full of love and personality so it was a tough decision. In the end, I gave it to a fave charity which made it easier to let it go.

Oils, dressings etc I would pour onto the outside compost bin. Failing that, I would dig a hole in the soil away from the house (don't want to attract rats) and pour it in. Definitely don't pour it down the sink.

cashew peach champagne jam sounds yum. Maybe in a cake? Like an upside down sticky cake? Or a peach tarte Tatin? Or (sticking with pastry) jam turnovers. Sort of like gigantic grown up pop tarts (I saw Nadia off of bake off do this with raspberry jam on her show).

I’ve a bag to go to charity shop tomorrow.

You are all so good. I've been shopping on e bay - not good progress. I have to remind myself we don't have enough space for our existing possessions, without buying more. I've been cleaning toys and putting them aside for a Fair. Not out of the house yet, but it will not be too long.

It doesn't smell too great Emen! But that may be worth a go Grin you are officially becoming my baking consultant!

Found and old zip. It's huge, so I figured DS can have a bean bag chair and it'll keep me occupied for an evening. But I figure one item in if I am get 51 out isn't too bad going!

cashew I’m no expert. And probably wouldn’t attempt tarte tatin. But yeah I’d fashion it into a cake or something. If it was a gift and you have the rest of the ingredients lying about no waste:..

(Says the lady who made carrot and rose jam....vom!)

I had some sparkling jam from M&S. I think it was apricot and prosecco. It was so disappointing!

Report
IHateToCashew · 07/05/2018 22:00

It may be Gibble, it's incredibly glittery! It looks like something from Lush rather than M&S!

I really don't know where I'm going to declutter tomorrow! It's my only free day this week, so I feel like I should be doing something to the house. I didn't get around to sanding the fireplace, so I may attempt that.

How's everyone else gotten on today?

I keep forgetting to post but I have managed a bag of clothes to recycling. Clothes and toys to charity shop and sold two things on e bay. I can actually walk into my spare room now! I felt a bit emotional this morning when I realised all school uniform will be going soon . My youngest DC finishes school in about 5 weeks Sad

Oh wow. I’m very late to this game but I’m definitely giving it a go. My house is so full of junk because Hubby and DD are hoarders. Will start this afternoon!

Thanks for tips re oil. It’s almost a full, bottle so it might have to go in stages. I’ll trickle it into the outside food waste bin.

Really have to do that cupboard. DH took out a new tube of tomato purée yesterday that was sticky from something leaking from above. So need to sort it.

Am also going to sort through the magazine Basket or my desk. Which is mainly used as a rubbish dump. And need to clean a cupboard in the new office and decide what to do with it. I love it but it’s a bit impractical.

Right! Today I'm going to 1. Master the cupcake making machine and 2. Use up as many of my odd ingredients as possible. Any success stories can go in the freezer.

I do need to buy cupcake liners and eggs, but at least it's useful and temporary clutter Grin

So I realised that I didn't list my items here.

1 bag
1 purse
12 bath toys
1 broken Easter egg toy (I am finding these EVERYWHERE!!!!)
1 shoe (DS never worn it, I can't find the other one and I have absolutely no recollection of buying it)
2 plastic stick things
1 face moisturiser

This makes my total 75/132

I will have a route in the bedrooms for more items to throw out. Currently eyeing up DToddlers boxes and boxes of toys

Well, decided to be nice and look for DH's iPad for him. Found a few condoms (which we don't ever use) with very far in the future use by dates. And some XL stockings and a size 12 suspender belt (nowhere near my size).

I kind of suspected something had been going on. But now I just want to cry.

What is your gut reaction? Dig some more? The standard MN advice is get more evidence and get your ducks in a row and decide what you want.

FWIW a good friend found her DH had been sleeping with a work colleague. It was horrific at the time for them. But almost ten years in they are still together. It took a lot of work but they are still together.

Ugh. Well it goes one way or the other really, doesn't it? He either used them, or bought them with the intent of using them. Neither is great.

AdaColeman · 08/05/2018 13:57

Oh Cashew I'm so sorry, you've no need to do anything yet, just gather yourself together for now. Thanks

Cashew I am so sorry I can't even imagine how you are feeling right now ThanksThanks

I hope you have the strength to either leave him and get yourself together or get through this together as a couple. I really do wish you well though whatever the outcome. Just remember this is entirely your decision and nobody will judge you for leaving or staying. I am so sorry you have to go through this x
