After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

Thrown away two tea towels. They were old and full of holes.

MajestyRoyal · 12/04/2018 23:42

Well I have been jinxed by this thread. My favourite bra's underwire has snapped. So that's been thrown out, along with a Yankee candle lid, 1 baby shoe with no pair, a pair of sliders, plastic egg toys from Easter, an empty hair old bottle, an empty perfume and some wooden pegs.

MajestyRoyal · 12/04/2018 23:43

Hair oil that should be*

AdaColeman · 12/04/2018 23:48

Chimichangaz have you checked your Spam mail box for that registration? Mail from new contacts often gets shunted there.

Chimichangaz · 13/04/2018 07:45

Ada yes I have - just junk in there unfortunately (which I deleted - does that count as decluttering?!)

StealthNinjaMum · 13/04/2018 08:49

Majesty Royal Flowers I have been bra hunting on the internet but I know I am going to have to do it in person. I hate buying bras.

Had a conversation with dh yesterday. One of his (three!) chest of drawers is almost empty (it had my tights and leggings in and I've got rid of loads of them/ moved the remaining ones) so he has agreed we can get rid of it! It has two empty drawers and one drawer with wires / chargers, instruction manuals odds and sods so today I'll be emptying it and taking the furniture downstairs to advertise on free cycle.

Last night, I recycled some magazines that were from 2016!

Still a massive pile left. With magazines being so expensive I can’t bring myself to just recycle the lot without reading. All my subscriptions are cancelled because I didn’t have time.

Funny, I did it with unworn clothes.

Chloe1984 · 13/04/2018 11:05

Stealth I’ve found chest of drawers sell very well on eBay, if it’s in good nick and you can be bothered with it and don’t mind waiting the week for it to sell.

StealthNinjaMum · 13/04/2018 12:15

That's interesting, I'll check out eBay later. It's not that nice but someone might like it. It was left by the owners of dh's first house 20 years ago so presume they didn't want it either! Dh has moved it with him twice. Last night I said it's hideous and he agreed, said he was happy for it to go, and thinks the first time he moved his hoarding parents brought it with them (they 'helped' us move) because it was a 'waste' to leave it behind. Their furniture is a horrible mismatch of old and new stuff with lots of dark wood and their house looks really small because of it.

Anyway I have emptied the drawer into the large one under the bed. I may sweep up every bit of mess in the room and create a large Drawer of Doom which I can empty at my leisure. hmmm isn't that what got me in this mess in the first place? Being positive I put away my washing today and a few bits went in their new homes and I do feel more organised - but I have a long way to go.

Hi everyone. Sympathies on the favourite bra’s demise Stealth and Majesty. Pain when that happens.

A bit of a pain of a day yesterday. Went to Sainsbury’s and was done and loading my car up at 3.30. Car park often gets blocked and was then. It took me 1 hour and 30 mins to get out of my car park space and another 30minutes to get out of the car park. Complete nightmare. I decluttered a large gin, a bottle of red wine and a curry last night to recover!

I went to Homesense and bought some nice new cushions for the living room which look great. Need to get rid of the old ones now. I think. They are red so maybe I should keep for Xmas?

Yesterday I almost emptied a large Ikea basket that was full of ds’s School stuff going back to nursery. All went in recycling. Still have a bit to go. DS actually cleared it out of his bedroom about two years ago and it has sat in a corner at the top of the stairs since then.

I’ve just taken all of the shoes I bagged up the other day to the Salvation Army charity box.

Not sure if much else will go today. I have some stuff for the charity shop so might do that if I pop out later.

My bedroom is the worst in the house and I’m planning on tackling it next week I hope. Especially as we might actually need summer clothes!

Clutterfreeintraining · 13/04/2018 14:27

Hi everyone!
I’ve decluttered two pairs of boots back to the shop this morning but then bought a gift box, a birthday badge and two cards...three out of the four of those will be out of the house again next week though.
Yesterday, I emptied two baskets of random crap. One is completely empty and the other is now storing some crafty bits but I think this will be temporary because most of my craft stuff lives upstairs and I don’t think I want to start a separate collection downstairs.
I also attempted to decluttered some of the toys but was foolish to think this would’ve possible with a house full of children so have abandoned that until next week Grin

SandAndSea · 13/04/2018 15:04

I've done quite well today. A smelly pair of slippers and some holey socks have gone out. I've also advertised some more stuff for sale. And, I've got a Monsoon outfit out, ready to wash and prep for sale.

@StealthNinjaMum - I recently earned an easy £50 selling what I thought was a horrible chest of drawers. It's surprising but furniture is expensive and in demand.

Clutterfreeintraining · 13/04/2018 15:37

I agree re ebaying furniture. Or gumtree to avoid fees Grin

Chloe1984 · 13/04/2018 16:26

I didn’t particularly like the drawers we sold recently - dark wood, a bit dated and very heavy looking in the room but the buyer wanted to upcycle them. We got £35 for them when we would have just taken them to the tip otherwise (to be left in the unwanted furniture section rather than for scrap!)

Medwaymumoffour · 13/04/2018 16:41

I’m still not doing anything. Eldest son has now run out of clothes and is wearing his school uniform and pjs! Not good so I have done too lots of his washing.

I did a big order from H&M so intending to just keep what I need ( nothing in all honesty) and take the rest back.

I need to have a proper look and the eldest and youngest boys wardrobes and ensure everything fits and they have enough. Both are full but they have nothing to wear? Including the middle boy if I’m honest. Sigh.

Anyway I’m enjoying the last weekend of being utterly feral until next week when they are all back at school / nursery. Then it’s time to don the hazchem suit and delve into the kids bedrooms with a flamethrower and bleach

AdaColeman · 13/04/2018 16:48

I've got rid of an old set of kitchen scales today. I got a flashy electronic set a few months ago but only now got around to getting rid of the old ones.

DS once made me a badge with "To It" written on, it was a round to it badge!

IHateToCashew · 13/04/2018 16:57

Accidentally bought DS some 9-12 month clothes today Grin I like to be organised.

Used up the dregs of a few bottles of shampoo this morning.

I had a bag of shoes to take to the recycling thing. Semi-nice day. Walked to costa, which is next door to the shoe recycling bin, but forgot the bag Grin

glitterbiscuits · 13/04/2018 16:57

I’ve done a large carrier bag of magazines

And a bag of outgrown clothes from DD for the charity pile.

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2018 22:09

I got rid of some newspapers this afternoon. Three weeks old. Had asked DH to keep them as I hadn’t read them. Literally read one article in the entire pile this afternoon that was still relevant. Ridiculous that I’d kept them.

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/04/2018 07:42

5 x 7 = 35. That's what I owe.
I'm up to twelve including 6 pieces of uniform and a pair of old shoes.
23 to go.

Chimichangaz · 14/04/2018 09:12

Productive day yesterday as put a fair bit of stuff on eBay, also managed to sort out the gumtree registration so listed those as well. Spent last night starting to clear down an old laptop, will have 2 to take to CEX. Sold 1 eBay item already Grin

Middleoftheroad · 14/04/2018 09:17

I sold a lovely digital puano yesterday. It was a bit sad but I never play it, takes up room and need money.

Hate the Ebay cut though as it will be £40. Not on FB anymore so would you recommend Gumtree? I thought u had to pay to place ads on there?

StealthNinjaMum · 14/04/2018 09:46

It is such an ugly chest of drawers. It matched fitted furniture in dh's first bedroom, probably from the 80s, it is a shiny white with gold so not sure it can even be painted. But even £10 would be a bonus.

Dd1 has been persuaded to give away a cushion and picture. I have some shoes to go.

Parking Grin

SandAndSea · 14/04/2018 11:03

I've got a buyer hopefully coming today for two quite bulky items. Fingers crossed.
