Housekeeping

Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

Please can I join 😭

DH is a massive hoarder and constantly bringing in new crap. We're due to move any day now, so I desperately need to get rid of all our clutter.

Not sure how successful I'll be, it tends to be I get rid of six bags, he brings home a dozen.

Can I join in on this too?

Not long moved into a new house and the previous owners left loads of junk behind so we have been working through rooms bit at a time.

We got rid of most of our junk before we moved so this could help me keep on top as I end up with piles of stuff that I don't know what to do with.

Well, DH is taking the baby out with him to work for a bit Smile so hopefully I can clear a bin liner full of rubbish, call sky to upgrade to cinema so he doesn't buy so many bloody DVD's, and write 1000 more words of my novel. And have a coffee that isn't stone cold Grin how's everyone else getting on?

Lol penelope was it you who also had a spare settee in the garden?

I spent an hour sorting out toys. I have some up for sale on Facebook, put some in the charity shop pile and have thrown away a few unidentifiable plastic bits. I hate the waste that comes with toys

Ihateyourcarpet getting dh out of the house is an achievement. Mine is a big hoarder (inherited from parents) but I think he has seen the difference in our house. He keeps finding things in the place they're meant to be and with other similar items! He is also more willingly throwing stuff away. Just wish he would tackle his paperwork.

Have sorted out pile and tried to sort out DD2s crap, but she had a hissy fit that included real tears as I had moved it all out of position, so have given up on that for now.

rachyhayes we bought a house from an 80 year old woman who understandably left a loft and shed full of stuff. We then moved house and took it with us because our buyers didn't want it. It has taken years but I have got rid of it now apart from an item of her jewellery which is probably valueless but I keep meaning to try to track down her grandchildren who lived in the area to give it back to them.

I made some progress last night. I started on a box of tools that came from Mum's house. It has been sitting in front of the wardrobe for months. The saw, whose handle kept catching me as I squeezed past, is now in the loft. Some painting and wallpaper brushes with corroded metal strips are now in a binbag on the landing, along with some other bits and bobs. I also disposed of some old plastic bags in the plastics recycling. That gets picked up tomorrow so I want to wash some more bits for that tonight.

I have a half-full box for a local charity shop sitting in the hall. I think I'll concentrate on filling that for the rest of the week with the aim of handing it in on Saturday. They also take bags of rags for recycling, so I also need to bag up the washed torn stuff that I have put aside over the past few months.

Lovely to see more new people on here. Welcome!

I've had another stab at my tea cupboard and have thrown out (recycled) about a dozen herbal tea cartons after putting them all into one container (they're in their own sealed bags). I've also binned some old herbs and seeds and have some other seeds soaking, ready for sprouting, which I've been meaning to do for ages.

Evening all,

So I've just sold a pair of curtains on Facebook and they came to collect straight away which was great. Another £5.

My parents popped round and so I gave them a tin milk jug they can use with their new coffee machine, and a window sill propagater tray that I bought last year when I tried and failed to grow dahlias for 'Blooms for Bees'. So that's 3 items gone.

Yes, Stealth, that's me. It IS undercover and with an outdoor coffee table; I'm now going for the Morroccan look sort of although I wasn't when I put it there.
It's not the soggy mess you might be imagining in England though, but it is fading from the sun Grin

Stealth don't know how to tag people on here. We haven't even began with the shed thankfully the loft was pretty clear though.

I just bought a new toilet seat for the downstairs loo so that's my challenge for tomorrow. It has been off limits since we moved in as it was disgusting and the seat was hazardous. Made sure I bought fresh rubber gloves too lol wish me luck

One small bag of charity shop clothes
2 bags of out of date food

What next?

We did have extra sofas in the living room until last Friday as there was nowhere to keep them (garage was still being converted into home office at that point).

Still have a few boxes left to deal with but as we moved in just over 2 weeks ago we're not doing too badly.

Last night I washed some stuff for the charity box I hope to drop off on Saturday - some clothes and some plastic things. I washed stuff for the recycling collections as well, so although that doesn't really count, it is still more stuff out of the house.

Rachyhayes to put people in bold you can just put an asterisk before and after their name but I can't always be bothered. Hope your new toilet seat brings you joy.

An annoying day. Waited in for someone to pick some toys up she was buying and she didn't turn up. I found a couple of other big toys to put in the 'for sale' pile although I'm wondering why I'm bothering when people don't turn up. Once again nothing has left the house but I have a big item going tomorrow so that will make me feel better.

I also found two net curtain poles that had been standing behind a door for about seven years - when I took them off the windows. They are now in my hallway and if dh can make them work then I'm going to put them on freecyle. Amazing how I lived with them for 7 years! It gets to the point where you don't see the clutter but fortunately I do see it now and there is much less of it.
