Right you horrible lot stop nattering so much nah it wouldn't be fun if you did

So you have wandered into this corner of MN were the fledglings - a long running but very friendly group welcomes newbies and follows the flylady way to try to get decluttered and on top of the boring stuff in order to have more time for the fun other boring but essential stuff

No idea whose turn it was to run the thread this month but here it the thread and we can figure it out from there.

Ive just seen another poster with an "afresh" name and thought it was me Shock

Well I've been having long discussions with DD about euthanasia which is a cheery subject for a Sunday evening/Monday morning! She's giving a presentation about it at school (it's actually a language exercise and counts towards end of year exams). She's meant to put both sides of the argument and as you may know, it is legal in this country, for minors, and for those with mh issues, not just in circumstances where adults have a terminal prognosis.

Being obsessed with medicine and science, DD is all for it! Bring it on! Everyone will stick to the rules! No one will feel pressurised to take that option. The more the merrier ...vets do it all the time! I am trying gently to slip in a few counter arguments here and there (despite being RC, I'm not actually sure how I feel about it in reality) but it's not an easy one ... .

Anyway, Flying ...

My heart always sinks when it comes to kitchen week. Mine is shabby and cluttered and I can't find a way to improve it without a complete renovation which isn't going to happen soon. I am at a loss with it really.

On a more positive front, it's a lovely spring day here with bright sunshine! Had better get cracking! Have a good one everybody!

SC could you point out about Eugenetics and the fact that the holocaust was argued to be euthanasia for disabled and mentally ill people? I and both for an against it. It is ethically tricky to get the balance. Especially because most of what we used for genetics came from studies and research with very dubious methods of gaining. It is a doubled edge sword and is difficult. Just because you can, should you.

Zoo Grin
afresh that is happening to a lot of people these days

Steamcloud · 05/03/2018 09:08

Thanks Hills; good suggestions, I'm compiling some notes. (I've already mentioned the Holocaust but I didn't know that about dubious methods re: genetics research).

It's very difficult indeed to convey the potential predicaments of a vulnerable/frail elderly person to a 14 yr old blooming with youth and vigour ... . Have already strongly put the argument about every individual having innate worth, whether disabled, elderly, mentally ill, economically productive or not, and how society's values are skewed to youth, good looks, athleticism etc. Not sure how much is going in!

Steamcloud · 05/03/2018 09:27

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/03/2018 09:30

A lot of what was use originally came from the twins studies in the camps. Vial research and research techniques but it has been the foundation for so much that we know that has allowed some really good research and understanding of genetics/genetic based illnesses. Would you want your life to be saved with the medicines knowing how the information was gained or would you chose to die. Ultimately humans generally fight for survival at most costs.

You could mention the case of Harold Shipman. It was argued he was preventing people from suffering, he was convicted of multiple counts of murder. Ie the how would you feel if you knew mum was ok but someone else decided that euthansia was going to happen kind of thing... Again a horrible thing but interesting to discuss. At what point would you want your mum to be considered for this. Bringing it home to love ones being involved often makes the consideration of the other aspects more likely as emotions play a role in the decision making process.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 05/03/2018 09:35

Also the DNR would you consider this permission for euthanasia. If a person could be resuscitated and survive but a DNR order exists would you go with the DNR or not.

DNR is something we are discussing with my parents. If this situation what do you want/ if that would it be the same... Hard but my parents have very strong views so best to ask them so their wishes can be honoured.

Steamcloud · 05/03/2018 10:13

Thank you again Hills that is all really good food for thought.

I have Googled Mengele and the twin research and wished I hadn't Sad. Slightly different scenario but I believe there were similar surges in progress in medicine following the 1st and 2nd world wars, especially orthopaedic surgery. And again after the Falklands and the Gulf wars. Good emerging from evil.

Had forgotten about Shipman, that's a good idea, and I will throw in some stuff about the Hippocratic oath and the issue of DNR - thank you. DD is quite emotionally mature in many ways but is still at the naieve stage of believing that if rules exist then they cannot possibly be violated.

Good idea to personalise the argument too, but I think asking "at what point would you want your mum to be considered for this?" might be slightly dangerous right now Grin Grin Grin.

[Sorry for thread hi-jack - again - everyone else!]

You can always tell its home bleugh day can't you? When euthanasia is a more enjoyable focus of attention than the sheer tedium of chores!Confused.

Cagliostro · 05/03/2018 13:04

When euthanasia is a more enjoyable focus of attention than the sheer tedium of chores! You’ve basically summed up the whole flylady thread right there. :o

ta da so far
✅got last night’s wash in the dryer
✅put a wash on
✅DH hung clean towels, did washing up, transferred everything to new freezer and set up bowl/towel to catch any defrost from the old one
✅maths, spellings, times tables and sentences (DS did brilliantly, his spelling words lately are all chemistry related, and he looked up different elements in his book to find a fact to write ⭐️)
✅got the Caglets to collect and take out recycling

Feeling a bit better today, going to bed earlier is definitely helping, even if I’m not asleep much earlier myself, if Cagletini is in her bed before DH gets home we get more time together. :o We’ve also arranged a ‘date’ this week, rather than staying home while he takes the Caglets have Badgers, we will go for dinner. With the baby obviously but it’s still time to chat and make plans.

Baby’s asleep on me, now do I sit here and think of all the stuff I can’t do, or try to put her down when she will likely wake up? Caglets are having their screen time, need to crack on thereafter. Sigh.

foxessocks · 05/03/2018 13:07

Wow I seem to have stumbled into the thread during a very deep conversation - interesting stuff!

I haven't done anything apart from pop to the shops. Ds was sick last night and then up at the crack of dawn. When will this illness go away? It seems to keep coming back!Angry

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/03/2018 13:23

I did try to warn you about the twin studies SC It is no wonder that they leave out How certain information was discovered. Sad Sad Yep yep to wars being a source of knowledge advancement. As they say necessity is the mother of all invention.

Home bluergh? Nah it is another round of draining the system, hiding from the swearing, watch for leaks and all the radiator bleeding weird position injuries....

I have done 3 loads of washing though and made bread.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 05/03/2018 15:15

Ta da
Daily routine
Mopped and swept downstairs
Towels downstairs in wash
Dusted tv table
Finally took dd birthday decs down!

To do
Finish dusting
Mop upstairs
Change dc sheets
Change towels upstairs
15 min kitchen
Kitchen appliances
Hoover although might leave this until tomorrow as I'm still not feeling 100% and not much sleep over the weekend hasn't helped!
Wrap dd friends birthday present as we are seeing them tomorrow

Dinner tonight is something on toast for everybody as nobody can be bothered and don't want any more sickness from ds! (He hasn't been sick again so I hope hope hope it was a blip and we are still on the mend.) my menu plan is usually more interesting than it has been of late!!

Steamcloud · 05/03/2018 15:28

You did indeed warn me Hills! Hope radiator situation improving! Hope there are not too many raw knuckle injuries!

Have finished home bleugh and currently trying to work through rest of list. The plot thickens re: dd's missing clothes ... .

Sorry to hear DD ill again Foxes; sounds like you are all passing the bug between yourselves. Let's hope this is the last of it.

Glad you are feeling better today Cag

Great lists Goth and Cag!

Steamcloud · 05/03/2018 15:33

X post Take it steady Foxes if you are not feeling 100%!

DH is cooking supper tonight (steak & veg) which fits in neatly with home bleugh day. Speaking of which, had better carry on ... .

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/03/2018 15:33

Well the swearing has stopped and the radiators are on for now so fingers crossed ....

I might be near the bottom of the laundry pile --until I strip the beds and do the bedding, oh and then there's the PE kit. Nope never mind. Scratch that.

I yet again have mount foldmore, mount ironmore is out of control and in danger of landsliding. Can't get in the kitchen and I am glad that I have eaten some of the bread rolls that I made this morning as the rest have disappeared into ds' room as a light snack before tea ShockHmm

Still not finished my room motivation fucked off a while back so I am wip killing atm. I claim it as craft project decluttering ergo flying.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 05/03/2018 16:14

Well I've done everything except the hoovering - think I'll leave that for today, nowhere near enough energy!

Going to have a bath I think as dh home

Cagliostro · 05/03/2018 16:27

ta da continued
✅Tesco shopping online - took longer than usual because things suddenly changed to ‘unavailable’ due to snow I guess, so I’m really glad we did it this morning rather than waiting until 11pm as usual
✅sorted and packed a few little card/dice games into a box
✅sorted out all the coloured paper, tissue paper and collage bits which I’d used for the party, what’s left is going to our great nephew. I was also able to sneak in the tissue paper left over from stocking fillers
✅chose a few jigsaws to get rid of

Supposed to leave for taekwondo in 10 minutes, but I’m feeling really sick, which is not something I get a lot (no, definitely not pregnant 😜) and I don’t know whether to risk it or not. I haven’t actually puked in maybe 5 years... so unlikely to happen (iron stomach 🤔) but feel really wobbly.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/03/2018 17:26

Hello all, SC, I stay away from discussing medical ethics on Mumsnet because of my job so will not comment too much but there is loads of pro and against information on the internet that you / DD could look at, lots of which Hills has mentioned.

FWIW regarding your DD, my opinion on the subject is the same as it was when I was 14, albeit more nuanced and with much more experience behind me.

On a professional note. It is so, so important as Hills says to have end-of-life conversations as part of life, rather than waiting until death is near.

Well I am also trying to prepare a much less contraversial presentation. I have a job interview on Friday. I don’t even think I would like the job but it is in a nicer work environment from where I am now so I feel I must go for it. It’s a secondment so would depend if current job would release me so all feels like a lot of work for possibly no benefit Confused.

Greymalkin · 05/03/2018 17:41

Evening all - I've had a much more productive day:

Ta Da
School run
Booked DS into holiday camp for second week of Easter
Booked cats into cattery for our two breaks over the summer
Found doctors sick note whilst decluttering down the side of the sofa
Tumble drier on
Emptied dishwasher
Made three beds
Hoovered kitchen
Wash load on and tumble dried
Cat litter trays
Unearthed dining table
Properly sorted through heap of papers that have been sat around for months and filed
Tip Trip - took loads of cardboard and polystyrene packaging
Charity Shop Drop - decluttered mismatching china from kitchen
School run

Going to fold the dry laundry after DS is in bed while watching a film with DH.

Re the whole euthanasia thing; I think that we should have full rights over our own bodies, including the right to die if we so wish, and to an extent, the method (i.e. suicide - I am not suggested there should be legalised hit men one can hire!) When I die, I would actually like to leave my remains to medical science, but DH doesn't like the idea, but its my body!!! Will keep returning to the discussion over time.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/03/2018 17:43

Hope you feel better soon Cag, it’s horrible feeling sick Flowers
