New year, new organisation! Fledglings fly in 2018.

Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Happy new year to you all, oldies and newbies.

Doubt I'll be posting all that often as work still sucks all the life out of me and DS having lots of issues at school. I'm a sucker for posting satisfying Ta Da lists, so here I am again!

To Do
Get DS's school stuff ready for the morning
Fold and put away laundry
Change bed sheets

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 17:18

DS has just told me pe kit isn't clean
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH
He has pe tom and his trousers are weird plastic feeling things that are not drier friendly and take month Sunday to dry..he will have to be pe feral til weekend😒😒😒😒slattern mum strike one...

I am now ready to wash lil zoo hair having remembered I threw in some new uniform bits with the dirty stuff and fir once knew where laundry pen was and labelled new stuff as came out drier(go me!!)
All folded and put away
Shoes still to polish and we are ready to rock tomorrow maybe a trifle more enthusiastic that I feel

Bowerbird5 · 02/01/2018 18:09

Merit for marking uniform. The amount of parents / grandparents that come in whinging about lost uniform ( sometimes shouting) and I meekly ask if it has been named 99% of the time they have to admit it hasn't. I just want to scream. It is a large primary with double intake how are we supposed to know where little Levi has left it this time. I sewed my kids on whereas these days they have a label with space and you just need a permanent marker.
RANT over!
Yeah I recognised the style of writing in SC's posts. Loved the previous name.
Well just had lovely reheated roast beef dinner. Only one plate to wash up. Result.
Knitting. Not nosey at all it is a double loop snood.in Sirdar colour wheel. If people are keen I'll make a thread here for fledglings it could be as a reward, procrastination or just not feeling up to cleaning but could sit crafting. If I call it de-cluttering the stash perhaps they won't move it.
Views please?

Subtleconstraints · 02/01/2018 18:24

Yay Greymalkin it's really great to "see" you!! Happy New Year! Sorry to hear things still tough going though x

Yes sorry for confusing name changing Bowerbird Smile

Riding went ok after all, thanks Zoo and Toostressy - only one very slightly dodgy moment where horse took a bit of a look - was all good apart from that! Worrying for nothing as usual!! Smile

DH still working so took (starving) DD out to inhale some food afterwards so we don't have to unpack kitchen too much again.

Good luck to everyone who is going back to school tomorrow!

Toostressy wish I lived nearby so I could take the badge sewing off your hands!

That's nuts about the PE trouser fabric Zoo surely they should be easily washable? (Says she who is always washing kit at v last minute Confused!!)

Cat Don't talk to me about computer printers .....grrrrrrrr....I swear all of them are designed specifically with paper jamming and fast emptying ink cartridge features in-built!!!

Subtleconstraints · 02/01/2018 18:34

Bloomin heck, I despair of spell correction on here Cag I really do! It's determined to turn you feline!!! Apologies!!

X posts Bowerbird that sounds like a great idea about craft thread (masquerading cleverly as aligned housekeeping thread!!). Lovely of you to offer! Xmas Smile

Cagliostro · 02/01/2018 18:44

:o not a problem sc

Still done bugger all. I resisted a takeaway though, this is a major takeaway type day/mood as I'm so tired and CBA. But DD has stuck a pizza in the oven instead. Frugal at least. :)

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 18:57

I have catnip mouse if you are interested cag. apparently it doesn't take affect kittens.only 18mnth plus so as scoutcat not fussed with toys it's all yoursGrin
I wish we had a pizza.....

SC he rustles like a carrier bag in them n wash instructions are 30degrees pref no spin.no tumble dry.very practical thenHmm

Zoolets are eating salmon salad wraps with kits circling like sharks hoping for any dropped bits(I have a little left to give them once everyone's finished eating)they have apples and crisps and cups of milk(coconut for lil zoo as it's the cheapest.)i expected raft DF milks on offer as new year healthy eating blah blah blah.nope.not a sausage.i need an offer to stock up supplies....

Feeling a bit sad this evening as it is the last day of the holidays. I am counting down the weeks to half term already. I love my job but have had such a great time with my own dc I don't want to go back.

I am a bit envious of all the crafty people on this thread. I used to cross stitch but no longer manage to make time. My NY resolution is to spend less time messing around on the internet so perhaps I will have the time again soon.

Ta da
Leggings bought for dd
Dinners and lunches made for tomorrow
Dc bathed ready for return to school
Bedrooms tidied
Washing up and drying up
Sink shined Grin

FoolandFitz · 02/01/2018 20:18

Crikey it's busy! Hello all. Smile

Ta-da:
Bed made
Clipped and filed nails (hate doing this)
Made and attended appointment for wax (ouch)
Walked there and back (go me!)
Made hot lunch
2 loads washing put away, 2 loads washed and hanging dry
Dinner made (fried meatballs, chips, sweetcorn and cucumber for DS, rice and yummy spicy veg stirfry for me, DP sorted his own meal out)
Lots of time with DS today.
Kept off MN all day and no AIBU for me

To-do
Put away pots pans etc
Wash up snack bowls, cups
Shower! (not great at grooming)
Bed by 10.30 pm

Cagliostro · 02/01/2018 20:22

You’ve got to be kitten me with all these cat puns Hmm

I think the crafty thread is a great idea. I can’t knit sew or crochet but I would like to make time for piano if my hands allow, and maybe even start writing. I planned a children’s book and have a vague idea for an adult one (not THAT type of adult) so maybe I should actually start. Would give me something positive to work on.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 21:04

cagGrin

Spell checker makes me commit vbloopers not witty remarks SC (I must be doing it wrong)Grin

Way to go f+f.self care is so often last on the to do.its good to try n readdress that doesnt take own advice properly

Lil zoo n ds had reading in bed time.tucked up n kissed
I've eaten
All dishes etc washed n put away
Dining table cleared
Alarm set in case lil zoo doesn't alert me if I oversleep

It's super windy here n raining.i may end up be woken by careering recycling bins(we live on a hill that notorious when blustery!)hoping it's bit better for school run tom but forecast isn't promising and it's about to get colder
(Grateful that dp bought me a pair shocking pink.very me walking boots for Xmas as I burn thru shoes at rate under 4weeks.least feet be toasty n dry even if rest of me is more drowned rat)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2018 21:18

Grin at cat talk. I think this thread is purrfect.

Fooland, definite Star for staying off MN. Mercury, my resolution is to spend less time on my phone / faffing on MN internet too. Have been marginally better these last few days. Bower, I am planning on labelling and marking some shoes and PE kit tonight.

Ta da:-
Thanks for the offer SC but DH is sewing the badge on Grin. I do not feel guilty because he identified it was upside down and told DD2 so now of course it needs to be done before she goes back tomorrow as opposed to leaving it until a convenient time.
Printer working
Have done quick sort out of stuff for tomorrow (I’m working).

To do:-
General tidy up
Laundry- how is there more?!
Links

Wing flaps to all Smile.

Meant to say I know what you mean about the website SC.

Here is the daily summary for Wednesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

To clarify, we are in zone 1 this week which is the entrance, front porch and dining room. Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Thank you for the replies about the app. Might ditch the flylady one and return to my beloved home routines, I think the problem with that one was that it sometimes didn't sync to the zones very well which was a bit frustrating.
Tadas: sorting and tidying in the DC's rooms. Still a long way to go with that because we renovated our living room in November and still haven't got new furniture sorted, so a lot of the living room stuff is being stored in their rooms. Very frustrating, DH moves at a glacial pace when it comes to DIY and I can't manage it on my own 😔
Tidied the hallway (zone 1), still got a bit of decluttering, but can do that tomorrow and at least now we are all ready for DC going back to school tomorrow 😊
Took down all the Christmas decorations, tree etc. It's all waiting for DH to get it all up into the loft now.
Managed to keep up with a few daily things, dishwasher, washing etc 😊
Also, I found my bullet journal which was lost, so that's a massive relief😁
Thank you for all the links, I find them very very useful 😊

HettyB · 02/01/2018 22:06

I might need to go and sit in the naughty corner as I totally failed to do today’s Zone 1 mission. But I will try to catch up tomorrow.

Here’s my day’s ta da list (not as long as I’d hoped):

  1. Sorted out medicine shelf - it was overflowing so has been cleared out and kitchen cabinets have been rearranged so it now has two shelves.
  2. Packed up Christmas decs and lights and put away
  3. Returned a bag of stuff to my sister, along with two chairs she lent us for Christmas Day
  4. Collected the pram from my sister’s
  5. DH took down the Christmas tree and chopped it up for garden waste collection
  6. Two loads of washing folded and put away
  7. One load of washing washed and in the dryer
  8. Wiped down a pull out shelf in our sideboard that I didn’t know existed until today (!)
  9. Sorted out children’s bookshelves
10. Did meal plan for the week and ordered the Sainsbury’s shop 11. Filed paperwork as it came in (we had a glut of post this morning)

Tomorow’s to dos:

  1. Sort out understairs cupboard (today’s missed mission)
  2. Declutter top bedroom drawer (today’s January Cure task - also missed!)
  3. Take things out to charity box in garage
  4. Paperwork/admin - post letters, bank cheques
HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2018 22:10

Yep not sure I will adopt the reward with knitting time approach. I was just going to finish a row before more work on planner setup/filling in. That was at 6pm. I am now part way through the 2nd heel for this pair (taat sock knitter) and need to complete it because heels left part way can go bad real quick.

ta da
bedding washed - just need to put it back on the bed
planner part dealt with Hmm
didn't get to the bank as was late leaving work and lunch was not til late because madness
Managed however, to do budget though

so managed most of the list for today (floor in my room and rest of the planning stuff was left) but they will get done another day.

Need not to have worry about debrief, boss is pretty fabulous so there was no stress involved and it was all easy. It was nice to have a training day/admin catch up type day as the first one back.

To do list for tomo:
Attack, and clear the boy dungeon of monsters (aka tidy ds' room)
Permit boy dungeon to have access to daylight (aka fix curtain issue)
Collapse in corner with blankies and hot water bottles (and bandages/smelling salts after the shock of what is living in the boy dungeon)

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2018 22:15

Hetty there is NO behind in the fly lady system. You don't need to sit in the naughty corner for not getting around to the mission. The mission will come around again. Just pick up with tomorrow's links and do what you can. Perfectionism is actually the problem in achieving a tidy house. (the if i can't get it all done, i won't bother to do some to make some progress, and I am somehow not good enough for not doing it all.) No one can be perfect it is not possible, really. Join us in the naughty corner for a strong drink/snacks or whatever but not for not getting it all done! especially with that ta da list!

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2018 22:16

And that ^^^ goes for the rest of the fledglings

Bowerbird5 · 02/01/2018 23:05

Oooh! I'm impressed by socks. My knitting is very basic although I once made a pram set in blackberry stitch!

Right will start a thread tomorrow. Will think about name so we can leave it in this topic and not have to disappear off to find it.

I didn't see friend so vacuuming not finished. I was going to but when I walked out the door the cold hit me and was really wheezy. So didn't go out
Back to work tomorrow😧 it has gone quicker than I thought but will be pleased to see children on Thursday.
Bloody hell you should hear the weather. We have that high wind. Scary!

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2018 23:17

fledglings declutter the crafty way ?

sounds horrid out there, and i might have tp clear a few gutters tomo Hmm

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 02/01/2018 23:22

Evening all,
I’ve felt a bit better today (managed to get through with no lemsip) but still coughing badly and a bit feeble. So mainly just pottered around the house today. I did randomly paint about a metre of skirting board though - we have been redecorating the dining room in stages and this metre is an alcove which normally has a dresser in it, dresser and contents currently taking up most of the kitchen and I’m desperate to get it all back out of there.

I’m up for a crafty thread, I’m a crocheter but like crafty stuff generally.
