Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 3 this week which is
the bathroom and an extra room.

It’s the weekend though, so no missions or zone work unless you want to.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 3.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 3 is here.

Decided to go to bed early so snuggled up now that Casulty has finished.
DH says I look a lot better. I have felt better today. Yesterday I felt wretched like I might collapse any minute. Thursday night too. I burst into tears when I couldn't find where DS1 parked. In the dark and every third car was silver, bloody hell!
Maybe the steroids have kicked in at last.

Ta Das
I cleared through more school stuff and organised new RE file as I found more stuff.
I also found more spellings Cags you know one of those large supermarket bags well it is at least half full. You see I had four files of spellings, certificates, crosswords etc for different ages and abilities. I kept them in case I needed them each year but some were from2011. I have been able to just take Master sheet to photocopy but this year my job has changed and I am decluttering because then I have space to put another subject file there😃 let me know what level Cags I could post some if you like. I have 5A,5B,5Cand Support for Spelling I think. Might be some 3s&4s too. We had a lovely topic last term that you would love I think I have a homework sheet somewhere which had some lovely, exciting ideas if you want. The. Kids absolutely loved the topic. I spent a day helping set up the classroom this term and haven't been able to see them enjoy it😟 feel so sad about that because I was excited by the new ideas and topic. I'm sure they will tell me all about it when I eventually get back. Yesterday I would have said no way to Monday but now I am thinking maybe. See what the steroids are doing tomorrow. It is a bit like being on a roller coaster. Haven't been doing any crafty stuff that would involve going in THE ROOM!

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 22:36

Just be careful about going back too soon bower it is easy to go back and relapse if you are not lucky.

Ds has just told me he is not waking up tomorrow if he is going to have to tidy his desk HmmGrin I really hope we can actually get the entire room tidy, it really would give him a chance of keeping it tidy. But fucking hell is it hard work. And embarrassingly I feel the same was as ds about doing it. I. don't. want. too. Blush

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 23:10

Thanks yes I was thinking not yesterday but wondering if I might do phased return of half days then I wouldn't get too tired. Hope supply is covering the class work, horrible planning idea😝 I wouldn't have chose it.
Just looked in mirror when I went to loo have steroid face!😳😢😱
Fast pulse again just as I was going to sleep. First time today but now wide awake.

I know just how you feel that is me and my craft room. I did go in ...coward! Have you any story CDs for DS to listen to as he does it. I prefer listening as a distraction. Or music. Really need to go in tomorrow. I sorted school BRCS today and so it was worthwhile to get that done.

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 23:11

Oops senior moment!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 21/01/2018 03:52

Bowerbird5 · 21/01/2018 08:21

Oh no.
I've been awake since 3:15am can't get back to sleep. Wide , wide awake.
However been productive. I have been procrastinating about the kitchen. Mainly because two sisters I know have a locally made one. They are lovely and I thought DH would say" No not spending that much." However he was really impressed.i am dragging my heels initially the design wasn't right but no just thing that it is a lot of money and should we get off the peg for much cheaper. On the other hand they do it all- this is the attraction for DH I could actually get it done while he is away. They make the cabinets, paint, fit, electrics whatever all included in the final quote. Small firm just about five i think really pleasant. So I have been on Pinterest and kitchen sites this morning. The only other one I have found I like is Howdens. I like Wrens in magazines but heard lots of bad things, missing, slow to respond. Father Has a Howdens and still looking good after a year in.then there is the Aga saga. Initially DH was no now he's thinking about it. I started to realise my oven is quite a lot older than I thought. It is lovely Racing green with brass rails, knobs and I just thought I would keep that but oven stopped temporarily the other day.thinking if I'm going to need a new one then perhaps Aga, Rayburn , esse, ever hot way to go.recondition ones on eBay. This will be our last kitchen unless we move. Do I blow the cash or not? I have enough set aside. Just starting to think about retiring 😳 certainly will be in next five years. Will I regret spending that money. Other option is to go for it and really tighten my belt and put £500 a month away for it. To pay back myself.ahh don't know what to do. I have always settled for less. Kitchen in Scotland was fairly cheap and small, here we bought reasonable Symphony ones but base units and never got the wall units promised looks towards you know who.😙 pine B&Q shelves at £2:50 -3:00 are still up. Get a good scrub now and then. Any advice?
Off to make tea, any orders?

Afreshcuppateaplease · 21/01/2018 08:26

Tea please, one sugar not too strong

Ta da

Threw a few things from tea in the bin

Bowerbird5 · 21/01/2018 08:26

The sisters are lovely their mum was my other best friend who died at Christmas ten years ago.
I meant the kitchen units.
Now the design is right but it is a lot of money.

Really need to preview and learn to space for CL.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 21/01/2018 08:29

I get what you mean about the money bower I think id be tempted to push the boat out. Was talking to a relative about our kitchen the other day and fantasizing about how i would change it. Its a big room but not set out brilliantly, not enough worktop space etc. However we have millions of things need doing before that. Itll take years

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/01/2018 09:32

Ta da:-
Paperwork put away except the stuff that needs looking at tonight
5 mins decluttering dons downstairs.

As it's a graded piece of work she's adamant wants be "master chef"(top of class and received certificate) she's achieved it before with a layered salad in year 7 which included chickpeas(seen as very adventurous) and cranberry and coconut scones in year 8 that were designed so lil zoo could have them(dairy free).she's chosen to make a red pepper, spring onion and asparagus frittata flavoured with parsley and a side of sweet potato wedges and spicy salsa-cue trip out to shops for ingredients and as involves crossing number dodgy roads and a 30min walk muggins gets to trail along too yay
