Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

I hope you do to Fitz😃

foxessocks · 19/01/2018 07:54

To do
Shine bathroom sink
Put toothbrush mug in the dishwasher
Declutter car bag purse
Daily routine

I'm tired this morning, ds was up at 4, he did go back to sleep but took me a while to.

Dd has just said that she has asked another girl to her birthday party! She wasn't on the original list so she hasn't had an invitation and I expect dd will forget about it as 3/4 yos are so fickle but I don't want the little girl in question to be sad ...I know my dd has come home before now talking about a party and then never heard any more and she didn't remember or care so I'm hoping at this age they just chat about these things and she won't really notice?! What is the etiquette for nursery school and birthday parties?!?! Not sure I can afford to add another child!

Bowerbird5 · 19/01/2018 07:57

Not at all Afresh. Just thought you were feeling a bit Envy understandably!

I normally wake at 6am and I am not very good at lying in bed even when on holiday. I'm a morning person but since I have been ill my day seems to have gone a bit tipsy turvey. I've been told by my GP and asthma nurse to rest( they know what I'm like) so I am trying to do as I'm told. I am feeling very tired and drained of energy so it is a case of lying in bed( cosy) or sitting on sofa. I am getting older too and starting to find that I have less energy. I haven't forgotten what it was like to be a mum of young children and the anecdotes on here take me right back. I feel for you and think it is a pity we don't live closer and I could take these babies out for a walk while you lot get you heads down for an hour. I offered to the girl next door but she never let me, not once😒
I borrow my friends grandchildren occasionally and had the baby at 8 the for a whole afternoon. It was delicious! I' m substitute granny when mum, dad and granny are at work and I'm off.😃

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/01/2018 08:28

Ta das:
Showered, dressed, bed made etc.
Dishwasher on
Washing machine on

To dos:
Drop DC at bus stop for school
Pick DD up for doctors appt at 9.30 🙄
Clean bathroom inc. declutter
Reboot laundry
Reboot dishwasher
Relocate sylvanian families in living room as more diy taking place tomorrow.
Finish unpacking shopping 😳

That will do for now 😅

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/01/2018 09:13

I didn't read it as being lazy but that I had a choice in the matter. I am fucked off to the back teeth with pain enforced bed days. I have done the shifts of not sleeping, not stopping. ds never did anything by halves.

ta da
ring school
check schedule/time table

to do
I want to type all the things/be productive. Not looking good for that atm Sad

Subtleconstraints · 19/01/2018 09:13

Morning! Back in the country where it is a lovely day; blue skies and sunshine! No sign of slugs either but have decided crappy cladding that vendor bodger bloke has installed is coming out, as he has managed to trap damp inside ifyswim. Modern non-porous materials used in old old house = trouble!

Toostressy thank you for suggestion. I did look at slug threads (sleep came with difficulty after that Grin) and, as ever, the legendary and altogether marvellous PigletJohn offered good advice! In summary: slugs don't do dry, so eradicate damp and you eradicate the slugs. Here's hoping!

Afresh no need to worry; in your shoes I would be hallucinating about sleep, not just posting about it! You deserve a medal woman!

Sorry you had a bad night Foxes! Ah, all the talk of birthday parties takes me back! I used to love 'em - the organising and the doing!

Do take care Bower especially with your past heart history. Rest up and be well Flowers

Good luck with your Friday lists everyone! Waiting for tree surgeon ... .

Cagliostro · 19/01/2018 09:19

Ooh I forgot my best ta da from yesterday
✅play piano! She was asleep in the sling when we got in after lunch so I got about ten minutes to play, it was bliss ❤️❤️

Need to get up now as hoping to make it to baby rhyme time at the library, I have printing to do as well and then meeting my parents

Cagliostro · 19/01/2018 09:20

Oh and she had two sessions of sleep in her basket too last night yay!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/01/2018 09:33

Morning all,

BrewBrewBrew for all those with enforced early mornings who would rather be in bed and for those with enforced time in bed who would rather be up.

Grin SC, I did hesitate about recommending the threads but then figured knowledge is power?????!

Smile at piano playing Cag.

Have a lovely weekend Fooland.

Whispers, I used to love Sylvanian families when I was younger I still do. I tend to do loads of personals when thread leading but tbh when not I don’t always have time to do them and it is really no problem. I love just looking at everyone’s lists and being nosy Blush.

Bus has arrived so will be back in another post!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/01/2018 09:52

foxes, yes the whole party etiquette can be a challenge! I’m still figuring it out. The trouble is the kids all talk about it. Even DD1 who is 7 has not grasped that you shouldn’t chat about who is going at school as then people feel left out. I think it depends what the etiquette is at nursery. We have had bigish parties but thankfully whole class parties are not a thing (big nursery and more than one class / form entry at school). I think they do have to learn that not everyone gets invited to everything though Sad, it’s an important life lesson. I still remember when DD1 realised it though Sad. I don’t think reciprocal invites are a thing here (different for play dates) although I do try to remember. We have just added on an extra child actually as DD2 has done the same thing. Hope that ramble made sense, others may have different ideas!

Waves to everyone.

Sadly washer has leaked this morning Angry. It is small and I am hoping DH can fix it but it means I can do no washing. Not the best start!

foxessocks · 19/01/2018 11:04

I understand you stressy basically there is no right or wrong! I'll chat to dh but think really we can't afford anymore she already has lots going, only a handful from nursery though so not just leaving one or two out iyswim.

Ta da
Renewed library books
Put meat delivery away in fridge
Dishwasher on and rubbish out

To do
Toothbrush mug
Clean bathroom sink
Finish daily routine
Declutter car bag purse
Sort out meat in fridge put some in freezer (will have to do when ds asleep as tried just now but he kept running away with dangerous objects when I was about to have raw chicken on my hands!)

Ds has been climbing the furniture since we got back from toddler group and doing dangerous things. Then he wanted to watch me do the same puzzle over and over ...didn'twant to try it himself just wanted to watch HmmI admit I've put hey duggee on for him so I can sit down and have a cup of tea Blush

Got to pick dd up soon.

foxessocks · 19/01/2018 11:04

Oh and buy milk

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/01/2018 11:09

YY as long as not leaving out just one or two foxes

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/01/2018 11:19

You know that thing when elderly parents are trying to do stuff on the computer and you have to rescue the computer before it learns to fly because some idiot has decide to improve something and it is no longer user friendly. That. times two. Hmm it was supposed to be a nice chat and coffee. Instead I have dealt with customer service and will now be fixing issues on 2 computers to save everyone's sanity and nerves. Why do companies not understand: It's wasn't bloody broken until you decided you wanted to fix it! Leave it bloody alone!

Also work shifts for next week have all been change - not the boss' fault illness and out of office staff requirements but it has rather thrown a few spanners into my carefully planned and paced week Sad So best be moving to see if I can do something to re-organise the things.

Friday is clean out car day - reckon fat fairy will be happy with just half a farmyard being removed from the outside of the car. CBA to deal with the inside atm

foxessocks · 19/01/2018 12:46

Back again to rewrite list while ds settles to sleep as forgot some bits.

Ta das
Dd picked up and we've all had lunch

To do
Declutter car bag purse
Toothbrush mug
Shine sink bathroom
Finish daily routine
Sort out meat in fridge
Clean washing machine
Buy milk (there was a back in five notice on the shop door just as we got there typical!)

Off to give ds another cuddle as he isn't settling for some reason. Sounds like he is trying to say something but can't work out what!

Lisette40 · 19/01/2018 14:44

We had a family of slugs in our kitchen SC, only an occasional one now. Getting in at a pipe.

Dishwasher has gone. Ancient Bosch so have bought another with a cutlery tray. Washing up over the next week is going to shine my sink.

Have been dragging my heels. Need to get with the programme.

Subtleconstraints · 19/01/2018 17:12

Urgh, I don't want to them to invite their rellies over Lisette Grin. But glad to know they can be controlled!

I have spent a very happy day outdoors, ankle deep in mud, lopping branches! And yes I am mahoosively out of condition for rural life!

Chopping veg for supper and waiting for DD and DH now... .

PS afresh tip head left to right(ear to shoulder and repeat other side)at moderate speed.this releases dodgy trapped nerves that cause it weird but true

Bowerbird5 · 19/01/2018 19:22

Tired out from my venture out. Caught the one and only bus in and out because I have been a bit dizzy the last few days so no good driving.
Of course it was fine today. Bloods taken too.
Had to hang about for hours then. So had a cup of tea and people watched. Then went and did a TaDa anti procrastination - made an appointment for an eye test. Very overdue. I was hoping against hope that they might have been able to do it while I was in. Next week.
Did some shopping at M&S and picked up bargain fish and sweet potatoes Browse in Smiths and magazine treat purchased. Had lovely bowl of soup and nice conversation with lady at next table.
Then time for bus back and conversation with a village person. He isn't as shy now so good chat on bus and driver gave interesting insight in his other life going to Netherlands, France and Russia in the next few weeks. Isn't it surprising what people do. Never judge a book by the cover! Drivers are voluntary my eyes lit up thinking about possibility of shoving DH in that direction in retirement.😃
Had a doze about three times since coming home.

TA Das
Washed kitchen floor😀
Sorted books, well looked at them.
Fire lit
Vacuumed downstairs.

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/01/2018 20:54

Well, I came back with my tail between my legs, but it turns out that my morning self clearly had low realistic expectations of me, so there's only one outstanding thing left on my to do list 😂 Sadly it's cleaning the bathroom, but never mind. I can do it tomorrow morning, before FIL is back (IL's house is always immaculate, we must be a constant disappointment).

Looks like there are some lovely ta da lists today. You need to be taking it easy though, Bower!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/01/2018 21:36

ta da for friday
Contact school
deal with technology issues - step one
take two computers home for fixing
white wash load on
check schedule for an activity - although now irrelevant due to work schedule changes
pick up work keys
sort out blocking items and put away blocking mats and wires
swap computer fixing skills for knitting ripping back skills - socks that needed lengthening are now back on the needles
make shopping list
clear space in freezer for wool items being put into storage - I freeze for 3 months first to kill bugs and moths - precautionary.
Figure out what to get for Aunt's 70th - will pick up at either a wool festival or when I order from the supplier next time.
Sort out stuff for tip
sort out storage for avocado stones that are going to be used for dying wool when have enough.
Put charity shop stuff into bag for going
Raid the boy dungeon for washing up and laundry - would normally ask him to bring out but want it in washing machine before he gets home
attempt to get to fabric shop but forget they have weird opening hours so missed them
pick up a bit for ds' birthday present and some ideas for another part of it.
find patterns needed for the projects which needed the fabric shop - read instructions
finish spinning the singles so they can settle ready for plying on monday.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/01/2018 21:48

Very impressive list Hills! Whispers, my in laws’ house is always immaculate too. According to DH it was like that even when he was a child. Sob.

Bower, looking at books definitely counts as sorting them Grin.

zoo, I have stocked the naughty corner with prosecco Grin.

Glad you have new dishwasher on the way lisette.

Big wing flaps to all, links next...
