Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

January’s habit is shining your sink.

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Too - yes, apparently mine too, they had two dc 13 months apart and it was still like that! I do have to say that they are both massively tidy people though, why they couldn't have passed on those genes to DH, I have no idea 😠😫

Cagliostro · 20/01/2018 00:59

Evenin’ all. Just got Cagletini in her bed (hopefully) so popping on with my list for the day before I sleep. I seem to really flag around 10 but push through it due to baby and then feel all wired.

ta da
✅maths (will need to do spellings tomorrow, I hate coming up with lists each week that are the right balance between achievable and challenging, how the hell do teachers do this for thirty kids?)
✅got out on time for baby rhyme (Cagletini loved it, she was gazing at other babies with a mix of amusement and suspicion :o)
✅found all the documents I needed to copy
✅did necessary printing etc at library (although forgot to find vouchers for tomorrow’s lunch dammit)
✅paid a cheque in
✅started underwear shopping for DD. First proper crop tops. 😭
✅got DH’s last birthday presents sorted - must wrap tomorrow
✅enquired about book I’d preordered in Waterstones (was worried as I lost receipt 😳 but it’s fine, should be here in a week or so)
✅dealt with stressful crowded bus journey home with stroppy baby. Not fun!
✅put towel wash on
✅got DD sorted for ballet - my parents took her though as I was dealing with baby 💐
✅played a bit of piano as my new book arrived - just a few minutes but it was enough to try the bit I’ve been excited about
✅sorted clean laundry - ours isn’t put away yet but the Caglets did theirs
✅sorted out weird account issue with new maths thing and sent payment for subscription (a bargain thanks to a home ed mum who arranges us school subs)
✅returned some clothes mum had given me that are not needed (she is decluttering too)
✅set up bank app on iPad and finally managed to delete a load of unnneeded payees (old childminders etc) as they were annoying me
✅started writing a list of home ed mini projects. We are going to do a sort of pic n mix thing with a load of little tasks written on folded up papers, so now and then they can pick one out and get on with it. Stuff like “design a bedroom for X book character”, “find a short poem and learn it by heart”, “find out about a famous person from x country”, “draw a labelled map of the perfect park” etc. DD is really excited about this and hopefully it’ll provide some fun learning. If anyone has suggestions of things for the list I’d be most grateful! 😀

Well she is still stirring a bit which always makes me feel there’s no point sleeping myself yet but she generally does settle. So I must go. It’s been a good day though. Shattered but I got quite a few little bits done, nothing in the house (that needs doing tomorrow as my “maternity leave” is over - I start tutoring on Monday!) but lots of things that were hanging over me.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 20/01/2018 06:54

Brilliant list cag

Ty for nerve tip zoo

Bad night with ds3. Dd then up at 530 and ds3 at 630

I feel rough

foxessocks · 20/01/2018 07:46

afresh Brew

Ds up a few times last night -settled himself back to sleep every time but not before he had woken me up!dd also up 2 or 3 times because she wanted a drink or a tissue Hmm

I have let dd go downstairs to watch cbeebies, Ds just stirring now so will have to move in a minute.

Off to the library today and then my mil and her husband are coming over. They are also very tidy people with a verytidy house but I have long since stopped caring what they think of mine! Since doing fly lady I've actually been way more relaxed. I think because I'm not afraid to just throw things uostairs if necessary before people come over now I know I'm not the only person who does that!! Grin

Happy weekend everyone (although dh still working so not really our weekend yet)

Afreshcuppateaplease · 20/01/2018 07:56

There are a few select people i can cope with just calling in at our house. But most people i want warning before hand. It does not take long for this house to descend into chaos.

My dd would never be happy to sit downstairs watching tv alone foxes She can be extremely clingy. Her current issue is that she does not want me to turn into a granny Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/01/2018 10:38

Morning all, at dancing now, morning routine done although not managed to put a wash on. At least washer is fixed Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/01/2018 11:15

I am strange by MN standards in that I love unexpected guests (unless I have time in the house completely on my own in which case I hate them!).

Wing flaps to Afresh, foxes, Cag, Whispers,Bower and everyone else.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 20/01/2018 11:19

Urgh all i have done today is turn on a) the washer and b) the dryer

Pointy stick please, feeling drained again

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 12:04
foxessocks · 20/01/2018 12:51

afresh I can't bring myself to use the pointy stick when you are obviously tired and need a break! Can it be a everyone fed noone dead kind of day!?

Ta das
Went to the library
Bought milk (and grapes because that's what dd wanted and I was just grateful she didn't want a comic full of tat!)
Daily routine

To do
Whatever I can be bothered to do really. I have made the mistake of sitting down so unlikely to get back up again for a while! Although I do feel a bit of guilt for dd watching cbeebies again...

Cagliostro · 20/01/2018 12:57

Going to be a short ta da list today I think. Got tummy ache and feel really wobbly. Having a medicinal smoothie :o but otherwise will be in bed for a while. Should really get some admin stuff done if I can, but... meh

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/01/2018 13:46

Medicinal smoothie sounds good Cag. I’m also not going to use the pointy stick Afresh, I think foxes is right and perhaps it’s just a case of getting through the day Flowers. It’s so tough when you just have to plough through it with kids.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 14:38

^^ what they said Afresh

Ta da
fall out with ds about the boy dungeon
air boy dungeon - got hissed at HmmGrin
sorted laundry - apparently I need to do 7 loads and handwashing Hmm
1st load laundry on
'Supervised' a person to sort some stuff --told them it had to get done because it was causing a fire/trip hazard
Eyed up ironing pile and considered crying as an option then remembered we got a new ironing board that doesn't collapse as you try to use it Grin
Spoke to ds' dad about all the things - clothes sizing, contact, school, hospital appointment etc etc

Right now to properly upset the boy's day and tidy/clean the dungeon. can you spot the ongoing theme?

Subtleconstraints · 20/01/2018 15:31

Hello! Rushing just wanted to say to Cag Google spelling bee word list uk! ...hth! Sorry you are feeling rough.

Sorry you are feeling below par too Afresh you need a break girl! (Stern look over pince nez) even if it's just a couple of hours in bed one afternoon.

And sorry you had broken night too Foxes cbbebirs is necessary sometimes!

Yes you are very strange in that regard Toostressy GrinWinkGrin well by the standards of this thread anyway Grin but we won't hold it against you Grin

Damp but enthusiastic wing flaps to Hills and everyone else!

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 16:24

Hi,
Lost thread just as I was about to post this morning it went off😷

It started with a ⭐️WOW⭐️ To Cags
Oh Cags I have been burning spellings. I have five years worth where I went up and down the levels and more than one group. I still have some. We use Letters and Sounds you can access it still I think and I make them more difficult if older kids. I have been working with 8,9&10 yr olds. So you can add word endings ed, ing but also prefixes and suffixes but the root word follows the phonic lesson. We draw in the air, play games and use different pens as well as basic spelling and using for meaning sentences. I have a Master sheet which I keep and just work through.

I was so tired after going out yesterday that I was in bed before 9😳
I had a good sleep apart from the 3 wees I needed. Went back to sleep except 2nd but only 30-45 m awake. Slept till 6am.

Ta Das today
Cleaned bathroom including sorting Xmas toiletries, shelves, washed floor, skirting. Then I smashed a bottle of bubble bath! All over the floor near toilet so everything back out and had to hand wash floor to ensue the glass was all picked up so annoyed at the time. I decluttered shelves and it looks lovely.
Cleaned half DD bookshelves and the small one DH has.books everywhere in that room so now clean and organised with all his on small book case and DD and a few of mine on Billy one. That room is such a mess. When DH goes back I am getting in there for three weeks.
3 loads of washing.
One pile of ironing.
Swish around kitchen. Sinks were shiny from yesterday, recycling out.
Fire lit and logs in.
Chicken had lovely breakfast, allowed a little cuddle.😀 I had lovely breakfast of two fresh scrambled eggs on toast and another toast and ginger marmalade-yum

I started slowly but then went a bit manic I think it is the steroids sending me tipsy turvy. Sat down for lunch and cup of tea at 3 and now feeling tired. Going to sit and sort two bags which I found hiding. Still haven't found my journal 😔 need to make bed and put some clothes away...later.
Big waves to everyone.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 16:57

Some one has used the wool hand washing tub for bleach HmmAngry So that is going to be a fun game played slow to get all the bleach residues out so that it can be used for its real purpose. no hand washing today then.

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 18:11

😱 do you think it might be of the males species?

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2018 18:36

Today I've been really low n struggled even move

All fed no one dead

In the words of scarlet O'Hara I think "tomorrow is another day"

That's all

Bowerbird5 · 20/01/2018 18:40

Getting worried aboutHills she has been in that dungeon far to long.

Yes, surprisingly I have spotted a connection but then I am quick that way. Always spot the clues in the murder mysteries before the detective.DH😱

Actually I was thinking that his name might be Stig😁

Cagliostro · 20/01/2018 18:53

Hugs zoo

I have barely even stood up today.

ta da
✅made it downstairs to sofa
✅wrapped some presents

Cagliostro · 20/01/2018 18:56

Thank you for spelling ideas BTW! Silly thing is I do have a book of spelling lists, I just get too hung up on what the right words are [sigh] 😳 I need to unclench. TBH it’s more about just getting them doing something regular and working on memory skills rather than the spelling per se. I think next week I might get them to write a sentence with each word too. Therapist was happy with DD’s handwriting for the most part but couldn’t hurt to get a bit more practice in.

I really need to woman up though and get more done during the week. We’ve done the absolute bare minimum HE this week, it’s still an improvement on some weeks over the last couple of terms but they are ready for more now and I need to provide that. It is tricky when we are out so much and then baby needs feeding and stuff but it needs doing.

Cagliostro · 20/01/2018 19:00

Sorry thinking out loud now. But they are definitely at the stage where they can handle more. Well DD is anyway, DS struggles more. But yesterday after baby rhyme I found DD at the computer in the children’s library with a pile of history books typing facts about Boudicca and Elizabeth I. And she’s decided to do her other pop up book about roman emperors. She’s ready and actually enjoying this stuff finally (I mean written work, she’s been history mad for a couple of years) she’s come through so much due to the bullying and stuff, and I should be excited, but I’m also thinking oh fuck how do I find the time. I will though.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/01/2018 19:17

Hugs cag
It's lovely to hear she's ready for more structured work.you will get there.FWIW I think you're amazing trailing to all those clubs with cagletini in tow AND HE AND getting any thing around the house done!

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 19:40

there is almost a floor that is tidy and has been hoovered in the boy dungeon desk and bed are another thing Hmm I have hope that phase one will be completed tonight. well it will be else he will not get his technology back tonight WinkGrin

Bowers it was the male of the species but part of the problem was the tub he was supposed to be using was else where Hmm He was suitably apologetic.

I am done for the day and tbh am ready for bed. Tomo there is a mountain of laundry for folding and ironing and then putting away Hmm So all the fun things tomo then Hmm

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/01/2018 20:01

I have finally escaped the dungeon for the day Shock as a treat I have put the bread machine on for some fresh bread. Blush

Not to sit in a corner with some sock heels.
