Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

What ho peeps! Hope all Fledglings ok!

DD was ok for school, so endured hideous aggressive (from commuters) drive to wreck2 in high cross winds on motorway at crack of sparrows this morning. Really scary. Arrived and there were two baby slugs making their way across one of the bedroom floors which I had to deal with. Slugs are one of my least favourite things in the world! Really disgusting! Never known them be inside a house before! To think that I have been going in that room in dim light, in bare feet over Christmas hols! Euuuggh! Must find out where they are coming in!

Plumber arrived at 11am when he was due at 9.30 which was irritating (esp could have avoided rush hour if I'd known) but in fact worked out fine because spent the time sorting recycling, cleaning kitchen, hoovering and mopping bedrooms, so got quite a bit done before water was turned off.

Anyway, pungent plumbing problem now finally gone! Yay!

And windy, dark weather has transformed in to glorious, blustery Sunday, with blue skies who would have thought it!

Blustery wing flaps to all!

Longtime · 18/01/2018 13:20

Hope everyone is ok. Not a good time of year so I’ve been avoiding doing lots of things including coming on here or doing anything to sort my house out. Just wanted to check in though.

Subtleconstraints · 18/01/2018 13:38

Wishing you and your family all the very best at this difficult time Longtime Flowers

I've been gadding about, in Blighty, and at wreck2 a lot (ditch clearing and pollarding season) but when back in town you must come over xx

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 13:54

Hi longtime
Keep checking in and if you need to vent, this is the placeFlowers
SC yay for fixed plumbing!!

I've finished sifting thru dvd/game corner
Also tackled dvds under dvd player
just how many are there not put away.dd2 I am blaming you
Cleaned around fireplace(electric coal looking fire with a mirror edging.nightmare to clean)
Decluttering to mantlepiece
Clear top dvd cabinet
Wipe TV

So I've avoided my room(again)
But have made inroads into a room everyone sees so i guess that still a victory right?
Downside once you clear n declutter a bit you notice rest clutter much more

foxessocks · 18/01/2018 14:12

Radishes has made me smile! Funnily enough we were contemplating growing some this year!

Swimming total disaster. Ds cried the whole time as the pool was too cold so we got out after about fifteen minutes and went to the cafe!

And get this he fell asleep on the way home so I went to McDonalds drive thru as I had a voucher Blush literally just stuffed my face while ds snoozed in the back!!! What luxury.

He has woken up crying now though so guess that's that!

Ta da
Nothing! Oh I asked my mum when she could have the kids so I can go t the opticians. And I made dd her packed lunch! Just off to get the bread now then go home and do the rest.

CotswoldStrife · 18/01/2018 14:21

Greetings all - will catch up with the thread later. DD has just gone back to school after being ill all week. We also just got DH's results and he seems to be OK, although they will watch him closely for a while yet so that's good news.

Trying to catch up on laundry today, got called downstairs three times to answer the door when I was trying to hang stuff up! C'mon world, work with me here!

Hugs to all who need them Bear

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 14:27

Cagliostro · 18/01/2018 15:11

Just popping on for yesterday’s ta das (my Flying aim for this month is to post them every day)

ta da
✅sort more photos
✅get washing put away
✅sort out sign up for maths programme

Errr can’t really think of anything else for yesterday. Today’s challenge is to get to Badgers on time and somehow not have a major falling out with DS who is really struggling with impulse control today.

On the plus side period seems to have been a false start 🤔 bit weird. Hormones I suppose.

Cagliostro · 18/01/2018 15:13

Oh I forgot
✅maths (DH did spellings while en route to swimming)

Struggling to get any extra home ed done this week though, it’s been bare minimum. Need to get better at fitting it all in between clubs, trips, social meets etc.

Subtleconstraints · 18/01/2018 15:57

Right, that is it. I have been on the go since 5.50 am (hr ahead here) and I am stopping now and having a rest for 10 mins before heading back (coming out again tomorrow too). I have a cup of tea and Suduko.

Hope you have warmed up a bit Afresh!

Sorry, missed earlier that both your dc are battling bugs Cordelia, hope they are not long-lived.

Sorry your dd has been ill too Cotswold but that is such great news about your DH! It's so worrying when you are waiting for test results.

Sorry you are feeling rough Hills

Amazing list Zoo!

Glad you are able to arrange a tiny bit of time for yourself Foxes!

Glad you had a good sleep Bowerbird

Waves to Whispers, Foolandfitz, Cag, Honu, Longtime* and everyone else I've missed!

Missed earlier that you

Enjoy your ten minutes rest sc a cup of tea always forces me to stop for a few minutes - I love a cup of tea Grin

My list is all done and dh is entertaining the kids with play doh (rather him than me!) So I'm also having a cup of tea in relative peace before I need to start on dinner (sausage and lentil one pot tonight)

Bowerbird5 · 18/01/2018 19:43

Afresh I had been awake for most of the day before. Been told to rest to get better. Find it hard but trying to do so because I wanted to go back on Monday which is looking more doubtful. I know though I would have given anything for a lie in when kids were small. Your time will come😄

Been to GP. Have to go back tomorrow for heart trace. He wanted it done tonight but the nurse had gone home. I saw her go just before I went in. Typically pulse was fine when I went in today but he listens so talked about yesterday and several tests tomorrow. Could just be virus might be more. I have had this before the virus went into my heart and I had a heart attack when I was about 42 and in hospital 5 days.
Ta Das
Made app.
Made bed.
Cleaned loo.Basin. Rinsed shower.
Decluttered school bags. I got started and ended up doing four instead of two. I decluttered and organised two bags. Found most of the Year five RE and put it all in order in a new file with dividers 😳 so all organised I just need to put planning in. I need the new planning but because my laptop isn't working I can't access it till I get back to school. Have put all the littlies work in one bag. So notes, games, cards etc all together for going back. Nurture all together and chucked some notes from 2012😳 on the fire. Found some big bird watch ideas. So lots organised and feel better about that.
Unloaded dishwasher and washed up after fish pie lunch.

Haven't done the other things but pleased I have done the bags because I had been putting it off as there were files and files bursting with stuff.
Might wash the floor. I waited for Son1 to pick me up but he didn't come in later because they have a audit tomorrow so he is going into work tonight. I was intending to ask him to bring Polti up. Mop?

Think you deserve a sit down and tea SC.
Some great flying fledglings.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/01/2018 21:10

Hello all Brew.

SC, sounds as if your sit down was well deserved. There are a few threads in housekeeping about slugs if you can face reading them - probably best to try to get on top of it sooner rather than later.

Bower, I have a lovely mental image of your snowy scene. Good work decluttering those bags Smile.

foxes, ugh swimming with young kids is often a challenge Confused (but worth it of course). McDs sounds amazing Grin.

Some warming Brew for you Afresh.

Nice to hear from you Cotswold and glad results ok for your DH.

Very impressive cleaning list zoo.

longtime Flowers. I find this thread very soothing (except when I am leading it Grin).

Hope there was some junk food left in the naughty corner for you last night Whispers.

Hope your DC feel better soon Callme.

Fooland, yes for DD1 Brownies she is super keen so far!

Wing flaps to Cag, Hills, and everyone else.

Slim pickings here (must shop tomorrow) but I can scatter the last few Xmas chocolates (the ones nobody really wants Hmm) towards the naughty / haughty corner.

WhispersOfWickedness · 18/01/2018 22:32

Ahem, any of those chocolates left?

So, today was my first day to actually have enough time to stop and think! How on earth do people cope going back to work full time?!? 😳 So, what was happening is that I was working two days a week for my mum's business, and filled the rest of the time with a bit of volunteering at the school/nursery, a Sewing class, shopping and ignoring the housework. Now she is winding that business down and we are setting up a new one, so it's all hands on deck and I am properly exhausted 😩 I did the school run today and did the shopping. Then had to come home for a nap because I was so tired! 😳😳 Then nursery volunteering this afternoon, and took the dc to swimming lessons (although dd didn't swim because she has a nasty cold and her ears keep hurting, so I decided it wasn't a good idea). Tomorrow I should probably be diving into work again, but I'm going to try and pick up the pieces of a house that's had no attention and at least get this week's zone done! (Well, bathroom anyway).

Oof, Bower, hope the trace is ok, take it easy, especially with your heart history 😕

Sorry about lack of personals, I just can't catch up 😔 waves to everyone 👋

Will be back in the morning with my to dos.

Cagliostro · 18/01/2018 23:02

✅spellings and maths
✅made it to clubs on time
✅volunteered to take on admin for one club... nobody else would 😩

Afreshcuppateaplease · 19/01/2018 06:15

Morning all

Good lists yesterday Star i didnt do much, seem to have become very lazy

Thos morning ive woken with pins and needles in my ring and little fingers. Any ideas anyone?

Bowerbird5 · 19/01/2018 06:52

Morning fledglings.
It could be your neck or the way you were lying as your neck. I have neck problems and I get that sometimes especially waking up when I have been lying in one position for a while or awkward position. It should go as you move about. A warm wheat bag is great if you have one especially if you sit with a Brew

Struggled to get to sleep last night but have slept well just the 3:30 pm wakefulness but dropped off again after about half an hour.

Plan for today
Sort books
Wash floor, kitchen & bathroom
Vacuum downstairs after I bring logs in.
Breakfast and wash up
Go to doctors
Go to M&S for some fish and a treat
Swish and swipe bathroom, reorganise basket
30 minutes in craft room, other room.
Not necessarily in that order

Happy flying today

Afreshcuppateaplease · 19/01/2018 07:18

Pins and needles has gone thank goodness

I do hope no one in bed yesterday thought i was insinuating they were lazy! Just seems like an alternative world to me right now! I can count on one hand the times i have slept past 8am in the last 10 years!

Ta da

Dryer on

FoolandFitz · 19/01/2018 07:38
