Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Waves to all!

That racing heart feeling is horrid Bowerbird do take care!

Gosh - fab anti-procrastination what with bras and party sorting Foxes! Hope your dd enjoys tennis!

Hope you had a good day at work Toostressy and that anxiety has subsided Cag

And that everyone who had little sleep last night Afresh and others survived the day!

Have had DD and plumber at home here today. DD ill (female issues but thankfully only missed half day of school; rather unfair girls have to go through this though. Dd exercises quite a bit but still suffers dreadfully; she looked like a ghost today and she hates missing school nowadays.) Plumber is continuing new bathroom installation and if dd ok I'll be meeting him at wreck2 tomorrow to deal with ongoing pungent plumbing issue there; so we are keeping him busy!

Ta da:
animals
furry walk X 2
empty DW
shined kitchen sink and surfaces
2 X loss washing on
s&s
moved boxes about
prepped stuff for fortnightly ironing lady who turned up! Yay!
quick supermarket, bank and chemist run
sorted bed linen in to sets (I don't put them in pillow case but fold duvet cover around sheet and pillows). Still loads more to do but it's a start.
cleaned out some bedroom cupboards
sorted spare bed
hoovered inner and outer hall
dusted sitting room
made carrot and leek soup and pear crumble
sorted yet more recycling (and more to do)
took boxes and boxes of supplies over to office which had arrived at home by mistake

To do:
hoover sitting room
hang up washing
supper for DD and me and clear up
animals again

Haven't even started my January crafting project yet - argh!

Best keep going! Have a good evening everyone and keep warm!

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/01/2018 17:29

Bower could the racing pulse be being affected by the steroids?

We had thunder snow last night, nothing left when I woke up but it has trying damn hard to snow all day. It has been an odd day weather wise and it really can't make up its own mind. Hmm

No flying done, no flying will be done. Still meh from yesterday and work shifts were changed at short notice so feeling a bit all over the place. Might do some in bed crafting if homework supervision doesn't take all evening who am i kidding it will Hmm

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 17:50

Good thought but no it was when I went to see GP and I had been sitting talking to a lady and a little toddler who was playing next to me so very calm. That is what GP was concerned about. He is back on in the morning at the nearer surgery so if it continues I 'll just rock up and he see me because I am " special" ...he told me that years ago! I said " special Needs?" To which he said he couldn't possibly comment on that and grinned. He is cheeky. Everyone likes him. He is a very thorough GP too.
Felt a bit better and just tidied a few things away and rested. Think that sounds like friend's car now.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/01/2018 18:33

I meant exacerbating the issue rather than causing it - ie why you felt it earlier but not when you saw doctor (who sounds lovely btw) have a nice time with your friend.

Hangry teenager Hmm Apparently 20-30mins to cook tea is against his human rights as it is forever.

Contemplating whether to spend tomo resting/crafting or to take the motivation and run with sorting the craft room... Decisions, decisions, decisions

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/01/2018 20:39

Hello all, managed to sew on two Brownie badges after work so I am counting that as a win Smile. DD1 ‘helped’.

Cag, I have stocked haughty corner. Hope the wait for food not too intolerable for DS Hills Grin. GP sounds lovely Bower. Hope your DD feels better soon SC. Impressive anti procrastination today foxes Smile. Big wing flaps to all Smile.

Did someone mention junk food?

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 23:36

Hillsyes it could be although I have taken them before and had one lot last week. He seemed concerned I wish I asked him what he was thinking, usually he says. Perhaps he was puzzled and he told me if no better to call him on Friday but think I might call him tomorrow or pop down and wait. I think he will see me because of the fast pulse rate. It has been coming and going, settles for a bit then seems to start again. Still really wheezy. I would love some fresh air.

I found some Christmas chocolate.
zoo that list is really impressive. I have manage to vacuum sitting room, wiped kitchen and washed dirty dish DH left soaking, thanks. Dishwasher on.
Made fish pie which was delicious and enough for lunch so not bad for £3: 74 plus some potatoes.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 04:41

The howling wind is keeping me awake
Lucky we haven't got a dog called toto or I'd be worried house going start flying n end up in Oz😂

Bowerbird5 · 18/01/2018 06:49

😆

Yeah slept all night apart from toilet breaks. Must have been tired because I was awake nearly 24 hrs apart from short nap when I dropped off watching film on 5 around 3:45 and then the veggie man knocked on the door and woke me. It was long enough that I couldn't go back but short enough to know what was going on in the film😃
Feel very refreshed and woke up to snow. Very dark outside but car are covered, village green covered in a thick white blanket and I am snuggled in bed with a cup of chia tea mmmmm!

Hope you escape poonarmi this morning. Hope those with babies got some sleep last night.

FoolandFitz · 18/01/2018 07:35

Morning all Smile

bower what a lovely scene to wake up to. Glad you are feeling rested. Hope you can see the doctor today, it all sounds rather concerning.

still our bins are in the middle of the road, good job it's a quiet road. I kept waking up cos of the high winds but I am so exhausted that I fell straight back to sleep each time.

toostressy are the Brownie badges just for DD's uniform - she's been very busy if it is.

sc that is one epic ta-da list.

cag ugh! at first period. Half my month is spent on PMS and period pain - well that's what it feels like. The joys of being 50.

ta-da
Cooked soup for lunch
Chivvied DS to get ready for school (helped him dress too - he's 9 ffs)

foxessocks · 18/01/2018 07:54

Well I was meant to be driving a fair distance with ds today but decided to give that a miss due to the weather. So probably toddler group and swimming although need to find his swimming costume!

Dd at nursery so better start getting my bum in gear

To do
Deep clean toilet
Deep clean shelf in bathroom
Swish and swipe rest of bathroom
Errand day - make opticians appointment
Buy bread
Make dd packed lunch
Daily routine

Callmecordelia · 18/01/2018 08:09

Cag, just popping in to say to take care of yourself today. My periods stressed the c section wound and were very painful for the first year. It got better as time went on, but I nearly passed out with the pain during the first one. I don't think they were looking carefully exactly where to cut during my emergency section.

To do
Get stuff ready for IFA
Do kitchen floor
Vacuum
Washing
Tackle the pile of paperwork in the kitchen
Wrap DD's birthday presents for next week

Have been doing some decluttering and lurking on the thread. DD is now ill as well as DS. If I had a nasty cold like this, I'd have been kept off school. I hate this attendance push. She's 6.

Bowerbird5 · 18/01/2018 08:57

My attendance hasn't been good this term😄 we hate it too when you can see they would be better off at home and snottering all over you. No one seems to teach kids about sneezing and coughing and tissues. Yuk. My little ones were all coughing and spluttering and very, very snotty before Christmas no wonder I got a cold. The song at choir " Candles in the window..." Took on new meaning for me. 😝sorry!

Yeah , I have an appointment. Boo it isn't until 4:50pm and it is at the surgery right in town. I tried for one on outskirts but he is full this morning and she wasn't budging even though I suggested phone call. Thought he might phone and tell me to come down. Happy I have one though. So now I can plan today.

Plan
Wash bathroom and kitchen floor DH has helpfully put Polti right down in bottom shed because it would be easier than mop. Heavy to carry up though. Hmmm! It could do with a proper steam clean. Text from DH said" Don't bother while we have this bad weather. " Is that why he didn't wash it when I was dropping hints.😷
Dust sitting room and probably remove flowers. I bought spray carnations from florist £8 and thought a bit dear but they have lasted since before Christmas😳 just one spray gone last night others fine.
Declutter two school bags.
Organise all novels into a box from anywhere and then look through and declutter.
Ah ha! Take charity box on way to GPs.
At weekend take any decluttered books to Hospice at Home drop off point.
Best spend 15 mins in craft room.

That will do for today. Don't want to be too ambitious. Supposed to be resting.
Might sit and cut veg for soup. That would be good idea.

Good flying everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 09:42

call me at that age if she's really struggling I'd be tempted to keep at home
BowerI woke up to find loads litter in my garden to add to piles crap already building up joys a corner house and a hedge on a windy hill.might get round sorting that one day...
Anyone know if flylady does a garden plan?

Afreshhope things are all good at yours
And the snot monster is retreating

Foxes that sounds like a good idea.good luck finding cossie and have fun!!

Having dosed after a 2am wake up j feel bit more lively today so here goes

Wash on
plan my day(best way keep cleaning on track and put in bits me time)
Write letter(had 2pks trifle sponges n when opened the internal plastic seal bit wasn't sealed and we're all manky)

Make breakfast n pack ups
Bathroom
Wipe windows
Wipe sill
Clean tiling round bath/shower
Wipe radiator,bath panel and skirts
Clean bath n sink

Take lil zoo to school
Grab bread on way back
My breakfast(in peace)
Book dental app for zoolets in half term

To do
Finish tidying dvd corner
And then I think I need to do some thing in the boudoir

Afreshcuppateaplease · 18/01/2018 10:36

Oh my god im so cold cannot warm up

Heating on and jumper on and slippers on, hot brew in hand. Brrrrr

So windy here last night i wondered if roof might blow off. Never known anything like it! Wonder if its so bad because we are the end house?

No poonami again thank the lord.

Bad morning with older dc, well 2 & 3. They were just uncooperative and no where near being on the ball. Grim.

Nipped to the shops for few bits and ds3 fell asleep in the pram, he now stiring and im praying he goes back off!

Bowerbird5 · 18/01/2018 11:01

Cosy here 😌 Afresh fell back to sleep for an hour. Still in bed. Have had loo break and opened curtains to lie and look out at snow. Started to melt. Going to get up now. Glad no pooramiHavent must have had a good clear out.

zoo that list makes me feel a bit guilty. Only a bit though.

We could start a Flying garden thread when it's a bit warmer. I'd be up for that. My son 2 is thinking about getting someone in to change and design his new garden
"So that would be it for once and all mum."
He has a lot to learn.
It made me wonder how much it would cost to do some of ours hmm. Might get them to come and quote both.
Hoping DH might stay down south for a few days. I tidied kitchen last night and it was still tidy this morning and the cupboard door and drawers have all stayed shut. Isn't that amazing!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/01/2018 11:09

Hi all, at work, will be on later.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 18/01/2018 11:40

Hot water bottle Afresh on your stomach or behind your back. ONce you get chilled proper the only way to warm is to get your core temp back up. Hence why the recommendation for hot bath or shower when someone got really cold. Hopefully should get you warmed and then it won't feel so cold.

Also still in bed here Bower. Not opened the curtains as I'd rather skip the view of the neighbours Hmm Have rescued parcel from porch and opened - new whorl for spinning wheel. Yay! But won't be playing with that today. Too much effort.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 18/01/2018 11:41

I am like Shock at your all being so lucky to be in bed

Ds3 woke up so i used his as hot water bottle Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/01/2018 11:41

Zoo i did search garden on the flylady site because I vaguely remember something about it at some point. All it brought up that I could see was a load of testimonials and something about raddishes Confused

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 12:17

Erm.i was thinking more along the lines of keeping it tidy hills but if she thinks radishes are the way forward each to their own thinks of lace up shoes in doors as good example of her having different ideas to mine

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/01/2018 12:20

Oh yeah
Tadas
Resorted computer table damn zoolets mucked up underneath again
Took vinegar soaked kitchen paper off base of taps.add bicarb and scrubbed...hot tap needs a repeat at some point but 85% better!!scrub rest sink n drainer
Pulled out sofas n swept underneath
Halfway thru dvd case/games corner

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/01/2018 12:31

zoo yeah that was what i was looking for for you. Hence the backing away slowly at the results of the search... No idea what the raddishes were about there was a vague impression it might be some metaphor but there was not way in hell I was clicking the linky to find out Hmm

Afresh don't be. I am sure that bowers would rather be well and up and doing as much as I would. There are no pain killers today that are touching pain levels and feeling sick from pain is definetly not my idea of fun. Hmm
