Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

January’s habit is shining your sink.

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Anyone up feeding? I've been awake since 1:45 am I would go and do some cleaning but DH is asleep and has a long drive today so I better not. Wondering if it is the steroids or just insomnia. Not usually awake this long. Well not for years.
Think I might sneak down for a cup of tea. Finished the colouring in or I would go and do that. Kitchen floor needs washed ( looking at you DH😤) but I would rather wait till he leaves or he will trek mud in on his mucky boots re log pile half way down the garden and we couldn't possibly take boots off when we come in. I do. I have a much better system( well I would wouldn't I because I am a woman) I take the wheelbarrow fill it and then wheel it up the garden to the back door, squeeze past, take shoes off and then lean over and bring logs in a few at a time. This also means I do not need to trek mud in three or four times a day and shake log bits all over carpet from my jacket. THIS is why I vacuum every day. Yes, ladies I have mentioned it politely and I have even demonstrated the barrow technique. Hmm! On the other hand I haven't had to go out when I don't feel up to lugging logs which apparently ( TV ) is now referred to by guys as " logging" heard it three times this week. Think they have just discovered it.
Tea anyone?
Only an hour to wake up call at half five!
Hope you have all had a decent kip!
Don't forget to be ready for the poonarmi! Ah those plastic aprons were worth their weight in gold in the Day Nurseries. Did you know other people's baby's poo often smells worse than your own baby's poo. Yep! We must get condition to it.

Callmecordelia · 17/01/2018 04:51

I'm up. DH has gone to work. I have tea.

DS has been awake a lot, so I should sleep, but I'm finding it hard. The house is also cold so I don't want to get up!

I should go downstairs, find the needle and thread and sew on that last Beaver badge.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/01/2018 05:42

I am up didn't check phone earlier.for reasons unknown been up awake since 230 based on only 3hr sleep night before I'd expected more and am both tired and fed upSad
Nevermind onwards and upwards

Subtleconstraints · 17/01/2018 05:43

I'm up. DH just left on his travels.

Brew for everyone?

Subtleconstraints · 17/01/2018 05:46

X post Zoo that sounds grim, as does everyone's broken night.

Cagliostro · 17/01/2018 05:49

Awake here too, Cagletini went nearly 6hrs again. I may try and put her back in her bed when she's done feeding, if I'm awake that long. She's getting too heavy to sleep on my arm!

Sorry about all the insomnia Thanks

Afreshcuppateaplease · 17/01/2018 06:12

Brew morning all

No poonami Grin

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 06:27

Grin great news!

I'm still awake also tired and fe up zoo. I hope it isn't the steroids because I have six more days of them.
Ooh Caglitini well done just pass her around and you go back to sleep Cags. Zoo, SC and I will look after her oooh cuddles.
Why didn't I remember to fill Teasmade. Enough for a few and it stays hot until you switch off.
Plan for today
Wait till DH goes then vacuum floors and was kitchen floor.
Spend time in craft room. I am going to make my self today. So small step will be clear the table in there. Then later another 15 m at least to tackle another area.
Make fish pie for tea. Now as DH is going away I get to eat it all myself unless BF turns up and I will need to invite her as everyone in her house hates fish and complain about the smell so she could come for her tea.
Declutter one school bag and shred if necessary.
Clean toilet.

If I get that done I will be pleased

Afreshcuppateaplease · 17/01/2018 06:30

I am so snotty! Yuck.

I want a go of cagletini too!

How is everyones snow?

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 06:31

BF could check my pulse while she is here dos she is a nurse well used to be until she got sick of the pressure & lack of H&S of the NHS. She was a Psych staff nurse.

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 06:34

Off to look out of window ours disappeared by morning yesterday.
Kids next door are up. They must make a lot of noise now because we have very thick stone walls and rarely heard them as babies. Their dad fairly shouted at them on Sunday. Don't know what one had done but boy was he in trouble early on.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 17/01/2018 06:37

I do wonder how much our ndn hears. Hes a single man so we dont hear him. Luckily we are end of terrace so only one neighbour.

We have couple of inches on the ground this morning. Lots of thunder lightening and hail in the night

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 06:43

Still pitch black. Up Norf! None on village green just a few splatters. I can see because we have two lights nearby. We only have five in the whole village. Used to have four but a couple of new houses so we got a new light over that side which will be handy when coming out of the village hall after parties.Grin Some people won't be able to blame the darkness when they fall over someone's towbar or a stone.😚DH looking at you again!

foxessocks · 17/01/2018 06:48

Morning all! Been up since 6 as ds woke up when dh left and dh made me a coffee. Ds now back to sleep but I'm not Hmm ah well. Enjoying the peace and quiet. Will peek outside in a minute but by the sounds of traffic already I'd say no snow.

To do
Clean bath
Sort socks / declutter ironing pile
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Daily routine
Anti procrastination - see if lady still collecting old bras for charity as I still haven't dropped them off. If she isn't I will post them myself.
Anti procrastination - order photo prints for frames / album
Drop forms into soft play for dd birthday party (thought I had done this last week but more forms arrived in the post!)

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 07:06

Ha! Only two lights working. When I say we have five now since autumn they never all work. The one near the pub is off the village green bit near church is like an energy saving one when you first switch on and the one between neighbours and ours is on full blast. The ones further around must be off because it is really dark over there near school. The school has some sort of orange light on so perhaps there is a hole. I might investigate later in the day. It gets exciting when something like that happens. No one has told me because no one has visited because they probably think I have the lurgey. They will know I am off because they will see the car hasn't moved all day. It is like Last of the Summer wine without the Yorkshire accents though we recently have had some people from Hull arrive. The dog walkers know everything that is going on. I only discovered this in the last five years because the " light sharer" have dogs and tell me lots of things I don't know when we get out of the cars or are watering plants in summer. Neighbourhood Watch, we don't need it, we have Dog Walkers! I have tea now.

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 07:08

Oh dear punctuation is slipping, sorry. I blame the insomnia and yes it says sleeplessness in the very long list and headaches which I had in the night but gone now.

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 07:10

Thank for bra reminder.😊

Afreshcuppateaplease · 17/01/2018 07:16

I have tea too

Lots of street lights here. We live on a main road so snow on road has gone

Ds3 and dd up and eating will wake others shortly

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/01/2018 07:47

No snow here
Tadas
Word table
Wiped kitchen surfaces
Wash on
Fed cats
Littertray and bins
Pack ups and breakfasts
S+s bathroom
Just going to see D's over main rs then it's back to wash kitchen floor whilst test lil zoo on spellings...

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 08:26

Goodness you've been busy zoo. DH still sleeping so I can start.
I can see snow just not in our village very picturesque on the mountains.
Will make some mash for my clever little hen. She looks so lovely all fluffed up with her new feathers. I wish she would let me pick her up more. Some of them used to come and sit beside you they were funny. Shame they died but they were battery hens so they often don't last long. One ate a bit of plastic. I watched it float into our garden and I was just going to pick it up when she dashed in and it was gone I told her. Three weeks later she was a goner so I do wonder was it the plastic. Vet isn't keen on operating. He says they usually die anyway. I'll probably get some more in the spring.

Cagliostro · 17/01/2018 10:34

Hate to say it bower but it probably is the steroids. I had steroid injections before induction (as she was a little early they wanted to protect her lungs) and barely slept, I posted at the time and it turns out it’s a very common effect of steroids in general :( hope you can make the most of the chance to rest during the day!

Yay for no poonami!

I’m on my own with baby as the others have gone swimming. I was awake with anxiety for a couple of hours so I feel a little behind but I have no plans other than watching telly and sorting more photos (I say sorting, I’m actually just uploading them all to google photos for now, once they’re safely on there I can start deleting rubbish ones etc. Truly a lesson in procrastination as it would be a lot quicker to upload them all if I’d edited them before...)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/01/2018 12:15

Hello all, am at work today so will be on later. Sorry to hear about so many early starts.

Wing flaps to Cag, Bower, SC, Callme, Afresh, zoo, Hills, foxes and everyone else.

No snow here although there was a bit of ice and it tried to sleet this morning.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 17/01/2018 13:34

Ta das
dropped off bras!
sorted dd party forms etc (and spent an hour running around soft play with ds which was exhausting - I feel like I've had a work out so I guess that's a good thing!!)
made ds and dd lunch and ds down for his nap (easy today - hooray!)
daily routine
swish and swipe downstairs loo
cleaned bath

to do
ironing pile declutter, socks etc
photos
fold last bit of laundry (can't do until ds wakes up as next door to his room)

having a cup of tea while dd watches octonauts now. DD is off to her a first session at a tennis club later looking forward to seeing how that goes!

Hope everyone okay.

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 13:46

Snowed like mad at 9:30 it went really dark and came down thick and fast. Then later is melted again. Still have a little . Thought DH could have left last night and gone maybe half way but he decided not to and he was right as motorists stranded for 8 hours on M6. He waited then set off at 11 some snow but he hasn't come back so I presume he has got through. County on Amber warning. Some roads closed.

Been making lampshade for a while. DH did nothing before he left apart from make a coffee. Hadn't even put dishwasher on last night.😱 I should have checked I suppose. Been decluttering table.
Don't feel great pulse racing and I was just decluttering. Maybe that it the shock of all this decluttering😳😁
Think I might see if BF is available to come and take it as I get high result but she will be better. Might bugger her day off up though.
Yes Cags I see from the bumf. I haven't had that before I still haven't slept. Don't want to try just now as I'm not liking this feeling. I was sat happily and could actually feel it racing. It was doing that yesterday but I couldn't feel it then, it was GP. I did experience similar last week.damn.
So going to chuck stuff in BRCS to tidy room and then phone Bestie.

Cagliostro · 17/01/2018 16:46

gah. Periods returned after only 12 weeks! FML. Does explain my random anxiety attack in the small hours though.

Make way in the haughty corner please, I'm raiding the cupboards
