Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Morning all.

Yuk to the poonarmi poor you Afresh.

I feel foggy like I haven't had enough sleep. I could have slept in but had to be awake to phone doctors at 8am. Yeah managed to get through ( a feat in itself) and I had a choice of three😳 never known that before. So chose the later one so I can have a snooze first. I thought I could maybe tie it in with lunch out somewhere as I am getting a little house bound / stir crazy. See what he says first.
DH made sure I was awake to phone then went back to bed.
I shouted out "Are you up?"
So he has got up and made me a cup of tea😄I was hoping to have the curtains open to look at the snow on the green but most of it has gone😟 it was covered last night and snowing like mad.
One of my pleasures now is lying cosy in bed with a mug of tea looking at the snow and watching kids go to village school which is literally around the corner. It was one of the plus points when buying this house lovely little village school there was only 35 pupils when we came. 60 when youngest left and apparently about 100 now as they built into the out buildings. Those days the kids went outside to the toilet. Yr 6 opened the door and answered the telephone as they only had a secretary 1 1/2 days a week. Lunches came from the other primary nearby and the Cook was a proper cook who made proper wholesome dinners, lots of farmers kids at that school so she must have been given some of the meat because they had roast beef every now and then and a roast dinner nearly every week. No one at that school took pack lunch. The other plus point for DH was the pub which is about a minutes walk! It is thriving at the moment with a great chef.

Sorry for being a bad thread leader and being AWOL. I have been GETTING THINGS DONE Shock.

Decided I was sick of wasting my spare time which I should be so grateful for (not that I don’t adore my DC, etc. etc.).

Have tidied and organised spare room. Just a couple of Xmas decs (I know!) to put in a bag, a couple of bags for when DH we next go up in the loft and a couple of spare storage boxes left. It looks so much better.

Am off for a run to revel in my lack of procrastinating and then need to do school pick up.

Not caught up on thread, will do later so here is some Brew and Cake for anyone who needs it.

Cagliostro · 16/01/2018 15:33

Hello all. Was all set up to be a write off today, due to change in routine (DH left early for London, whereas normally he leaves around midday). Plus Cagletini decided to downgrade her usual 4-5hr stretch of sleep to a measly 2 Hmm. So not a great start of the day, especially when Caglets, who normally react with bafflement when asked to get dressed if we aren’t going anywhere in the morning Blush, decided this was the morning they’d come into our room and get dressed when baby and I were still asleep. Confused

Anyway. Somehow pulled it back and although we’ve done less home ed than I wanted and the telly has been on more than normal for a weekday, the house isn’t a complete disaster. Ergo it’s a successful day.

ta da so far
✅hung clean towels up
✅washing on
✅chilled/frozen shopping away
✅Caglets put washing in dryer, put washing up away, collected recycling, put rest of shopping away
✅maths and spellings
✅tried on a pair of trousers - too big yay!
✅got laptop charging again and uploaded shedloads more photos
✅had proper lunch

Cagliostro · 16/01/2018 15:38

Oh also ta da
✅dealt with another massive nosebleed 🤕
✅used time while feeding to do admin and start filling in some forms
✅made sure we had used all size 2 nappies from changing bag/box etc and opened the size 3. She’s growing up too fast 😢

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/01/2018 15:46

cag i have been wondering if we need to go up to size 6 to contain the poonamis, SIZE SIX

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/01/2018 16:14

A good day cag well done pulling it back
Bigger size worth a try afresh
I got halfway thru dvd/games corner then realised was 3pm and I was late leaving for lil zoo...
Home now.dd2 stuck to phone snarling at me
DS cold n complaining
Lil zoo has sore throat n grumpy
Barrel of laughs here....

foxessocks · 16/01/2018 16:36

Well I've done my list. Got a bag of old towels and throws so I'll have to see if I can find somewhere that might want them. Also got rid of a few bath toys that don't get played with anymore.

Need to make a start on dinner soon (chicken and prawn paella) .

Dh and I have been trying to mentally rearrange our livng room to fit a piano in (I have one at my parents house and really want it here!). Whichever way we try it will end up making the living room look cluttered but I think its worth it?! Dh not so sure I don't think (tbf he doesn't play so I guess not as exciting to him).

Done a lot off unproductive sitting around this afternoon! Too much thinking and no doing!

Cagliostro · 16/01/2018 17:28

Do it foxes a piano is 100% worth it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/01/2018 18:43

I have just drop tea into a sink full of soaking washing up so it has had to go in the bin Sad

I am so tired I could literally cry at this point.

foxessocks · 16/01/2018 18:46

Oh no hills that's not good. I'd cry I think Sad hope you're ok.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/01/2018 18:52

Nothing a good night's sleep won't fix and thankfully it is only pasta I am having to re cook. But I am 100% done with today now. Only another 3 hours until bed Hmm

foxessocks · 16/01/2018 19:08

How annoying though hills

cag we have found a way I think but we've got to do a few diy jobs first as things need rearranging.

This evening has been stressful. The only person not arguing was ds who was his usual cheerful self while the rest of us were shouting at each other Blush not our best parenting but my goodness dd can push our buttons. All because she wanted chocolate after dinner as apparently the smarties she had earlier weren't chocolate they were sweets Hmm . Luckily she has now gone to bed and we are all friends again. Sort of.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/01/2018 19:34

Hello all, just checking in before bedtime. We went to soft play after school then had something else to do so back a bit late for a school night. Thankfully DDs have eaten tea and are showered so they are having some time on their tablets before I attempt bedtime.

foxes Flowers, children do push buttons and it can be extremely stressful at the time (and afterwards!).

Hills Wine.

Afresh, definitely worth going up a nappy size. Also, I know you are a very experienced mum but just to say when DD1 was tiny we went through a phase of wet nappies leaking at night. Eventually I called (or emailed, can’t remember now) the pampers careline and they were actually really helpful and I got some money off vouchers!

Cag, hope DS is ok after nosebleeds. You have made me remember when DDs were small using up the last lot of nappies before moving up a size Smile.

zoo, our cat is also good at prodding heads and hair and stomping around heads / pilllows to wake me up for attention Grin.

Whispers, as Flylady says, don’t try to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Callme BrewBrew

Good advice SC about sitting down and eating with the kids. I have to admit I often don’t do it.

Big wing flaps to all. Will be back later with links. Need to do bedtime on my own next...

Evenin' all. Sorry to hear people have had such stressful days.

I have just been resting up today and Mnsnetting. Back on it tomorrow though.

WhispersOfWickedness · 16/01/2018 21:33

Thank you Stressy, I meant catch up with the thread, but it's probably best to just jump in here too, it just moves too fast for me on days that I'm working 😅 Roll on the end of the week when at least I'll be working from home! 😒

Cag - that sounds like a very productive day considering the lack of sleep and the way it started!

Bower - loved reading about the school, year 6 answering the phone on the receptionist's day off, brilliant 😂

Very small ta da list today:
Dishwasher
One load of washing
A few errands on my lunch break - bought fabric for craft project, asked in hardware shop about a bracket I need for a broken dance award, delivered flyers for new business to the hairdressers, bought dinner.

No time tomorrow to get much done, even after school as it's gymnastics night. Just dinner and dishwasher probably.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/01/2018 21:53

Doh, sorry Whispers Blush.

Resting sounds very sensible SC Flowers

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 16/01/2018 22:29

ta da continued
✅made it to tap in plenty of time with no stress
✅had a bath (the others are going swimming in the morning)
✅sign up to a shopping scan thing I’ve been invited to (I’ll have a little scanner thing to record barcodes on our weekly shop, and get vouchers for it)

Bowerbird5 · 16/01/2018 23:45

Glad you did Whispers. It was so lovely then it was more like a big family than a school. The kids used to only fight over the brush. As who was going to brush the yard😳 could you imagine kids doing that today. The class teacher was lovely the head not so much.

Ta Das
Sorted and de-cluttered magazines.
Washed shower out after me and sink. Left toilet pity DH didn't bother so I will do it tomorrow and maybe floor. It is tiny. Take me longer to fill the bucket!
Went to GPs. Went to Morrison to chemist...none. Bought fish three types. Went to chemist. Sat on sofa and did b'all except mags.

So I went to see GP. He is so lovely. Concerned about me as I have asthma and fast pulse. No chest infection I think he was surprised I didnt. I was quite wheezy in there as in struggling with whole sentences. So more steroids a whole weeks worth and no school. If I am still the same on Friday I have to ring him and go see him. Any worse the same. Bless him he looked quite concerned. I'll have to check up on the chicken pox too as it was rife before Christmas.

Re piano. Put some tape newspaper on the floor where you want it to go. Leave a week. DDs boyfriends mum was playing today as we called in for some keys.lovely. I wish I could play. DD can. Boyfriend plays beautifully. We went to a castle once and he was allowed to play. People stopped on the stairs to listen and he had a little round of applause. The staff said he could come anytime he wanted.
Some great flying today.
cags little whatsits but maybe they are missing you a it. Babies take up so much time.
SC resting is good. I'm at it too. Hope you feel better soon.
Hail pelting the windows just now.

Oh stop news flash! My little lone chicken has laid two eggs🐓❄️Bit cold so don't know if they were frozen in the night. Also someone had left the gate open when I got home so I went looking for her. She was under the tarp covering the garden table and benches looking for worms. It must have been sheltered out of the cold and wind. Ah clever girl!😀

Subtleconstraints · 16/01/2018 23:48

Yay to the lone chicken Grin

Bowerbird5 · 17/01/2018 01:48

Thought you would like to know SC🐓(imagine brown.)
