Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

ALso it is bollocks that UK kids don't need to know what they want to do by 13. It is the argument I am having with ds. You not in the right sets for options, you don't get the option choices you want - huge amount of pressure on children to get the top grades. Also the higher foundation paper issue. Not in the right set you don't get to do the right paper. You want to do a subject at A level you have to get an A or above at GCSE for most schools to do that subject. So you got to be in the right set for the top grades. In order to get the right path you need the right options for GCSE. There might be a little bit more flexibility but the breathe means they lack depth which makes the GCSE to A level impossible to a lot of kids.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/01/2018 15:33

Going to be honest I don't think there is such a thing as a great education system that does everything for everyone. Each system has its flaws.

Christmas decorations away and stored. But I need a stool and some canvas. Canvas is easy stool not so much if I don't want to pay a fortune, even Ikea is a bit pricey

Afreshcuppateaplease · 15/01/2018 16:04

Hope your ok sc!

Glad ds slept foxes its a pain when they are asleep and you need to move them though! Ds always naps in his pram, if need be i just pile blankets on him and put the raincover on. We only live short walk from school though.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/01/2018 17:14

Hope poking and prodding not too awful SC. MN definitely good distraction. Love the homework club idea; think I remember you talking about it before on here and me thinking it sounded good.

There is almost a floor in the craft room, also found canvas and something that would work around instead of the stool which would mean don't need to buy anything [winning] Decluttered a huge box of baby stuff. Found a home for the out grown snow suits (but will have to wait until sept to be rehomed but don't care as they will be well used)

Stuck in a never ending hole of washing atm. Also if anyone knows where I put my sharpie earlied that would be great.

Bowerbird5 · 15/01/2018 19:03

In the craft room.

Goodness you have been busy most of you. I also need poked with a sharp stick.

Ta Das
Coloured in lots of sheets for little ones ( I need to cut and laminate ) for activities.
Decluttered a basket( small)
I just couldn't face craft room after doing the school stuff I need to do. I need to go in there first thing in the morning.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 15/01/2018 19:07

Thanks Stressy

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/01/2018 19:11

Aye bower that was where it was last seen so chances are that is where it is hiding but sod it, it can stay there for now.

foxessocks · 15/01/2018 19:25

afresh for some reason my children just don't sleep in pushchairs Hmm. They sleep beautifully in cars and ds used to stay asleep if I transferred him to his cot. But now he seems to wake up so I try to time it so I'm back home to put him to bed but obviously that doesn't always work. Just the way it goes sometimes but it is just made more frustrating when you thought you'd got away with it and are just closing the door thinking yesssss and then the eyes ping open!

Anyway enough grumbling. I did get to the bottle bank! I've got work to do this evening just waiting for ds to be completely asleep so I can carry on (study is next door to his room).

foxessocks · 15/01/2018 19:29

Also me and dd were chatting about planets earlier as you do and I asked her if she knew any names of planets. She said "yes. Earth and planet lunatic". Made me chuckle!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/01/2018 19:40

Just popping head in
Foxes I am from planet lunatic don't ya know😂
SC hope you are ok lovely.i think as we plough into routines actually set up snacks etc before we start and lurking deffo works here.stops wandering minds and phones being furtively checked and social media answered

I saw dd1 today.shes thinking of may 2020 for her wedding.eeeeek
She had gift card for tkmaxx so strolled round shops
Got wet picking up lil zoo.ds was soaked and shivering when I met him en route home stupid no coat rule at his school on site.and as lockers no where near classes and who wants put in cold wet coat no one wears them.but most get collected buy car because of it when cold/wet
He was grey n shaking so I put in hot bath.warm PJ's n made hot chocolate.hes ok.has cold.gets very poorly they can shove it he's staying home

I've manage get them all tidy away what had out after homework was completed
(Cept dd2,still powering thru hers,)lil ones in bed reading now
They had veggie sausages, cauli and pasta for tea.jelly and plums for pud
Mines nearly ready(mushroom and green bean risotto)

Intend flop and watch crapulence on TV as I've (yet again) skip two meals and have been running on empty to point of tears

I had CBT first thing.my task for the week is eat 3x a day and some self care ..not easy when I've always felt it's such an effort to do things just for myself so this will be a tough one for me

foxessocks · 15/01/2018 20:27

You can do it zoo! One step at a time. It feels good to do things for yourself sometimes.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/01/2018 20:53

Grin planet lunatic.

Here is the daily summary for Tuesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 3 this week which is
the bathroom and an extra room.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 3.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 3 is here.

SC hope you got home ok and are feeling better.

zoo 3 meals a day is a good place to start. Funny how something simple to some can actually be really really hard. Good luck with the CBT.

foxessocks · 15/01/2018 21:37

Go behind the washing machine!?! Nope! Throwing out old towels is a good one though. Can you really donate them to animal rescue that's a good idea.

WhispersOfWickedness · 15/01/2018 21:49

I posted earlier and it didn't post 😭 Was too tired to post it out the first time, never mind the second time! Will try and catch up tomorrow... 🙈

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/01/2018 22:17

Yessss I am ahead by accident. I had to pull the washing machine out because I accidentally caused a flood and it was the only way to clear up the mess. Our local animal rescue won't take them but do take old duvets and pillows. A local charity shop has a rags collection but old towels here are like gold, distributed through the house and plenty sometimes but none when you need them. I am afraid I will be hoarding the old towels like a dragon. Blush

Cagliostro · 15/01/2018 22:51

Blaaaah tired. Achy (not too bad, but blah!)

ta da
✅wash on x2
✅diary check
✅Tesco ordered
✅made it to friends and to taekwondo
✅deal with epic nosebleed which made DS look like a serial killer

Turning in now, not even waiting up for DH. He will be out early tomorrow and no idea when he’ll be back so not really looking forward to the long day.

Subtleconstraints · 15/01/2018 23:44

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling ok! Going to bed for the second time now (having slept through most of the late afternoon/early evening).

Art at lunatic planet (your dd has that right Foxes, that's for sure!)

Waves to Whispers and Unlimited

Agree about no education system being perfect Hills!

Congrats on stowing the Christmas decs; mine are all packed away neatly except for one recalcitrant string of lights that just won't untangle itself! I've been trying to untangle them every night for a fortnight! And nearly every visitor has had a go too!

Zoo that sounds madness about school coats policy - hope your ds is ok.

Hope your ds is ok after nosebleed Cag too!

Zoo you cook such lovely dishes for your dc; could you possibly make yourself sit down and eat with them? (Although I know sometimes as the feeder/chef you tend to want to eat less, not more.)

G'night all!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/01/2018 06:42

Morning all

Woke to yet another poonami! Yuck! Bloody teething!

Zoo i find my eating is all over the place. I dont eat before school run sometimes not until lunch time tbh, or even mid afternoon. But then i can be starving at 10pm and hunting for food. This is probably why ive put weight on tbh

Bed at 10 last night up at 530, feel all foggy like had too much sleep

Glad your ok sc

Why do i think of donald trump at the mention of lunatic planet!

Callmecordelia · 16/01/2018 06:58

DS has a cold and bad cough, so is refusing to eat anything, or sleep much. Matchsticks and tea required.

Did manage to do a bit of my list yesterday, but sewing on beaver badges takes ages. Far longer than I thought it would, so only one bathroom done and no kitchen floor washed. Did do a bit of a swerve off list and cleaned the microwave though.

To do
Sew on final beaver badge, or I will be in trouble with DD tomorrow
Clean remaining bathroom
Put away washing
Vacuum where airer was
Clean kitchen floor

If I get this done I will be surprised!

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/01/2018 07:29

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/01/2018 08:57

to do
All the work
Ds hospital appointments - he is going to feel miserable later
Figure out child care as ds is off school
Find the "good" pain killers
Find time to nap
Early night.

Fibro is kicking me in the ass today. Weekend was off plan diet wise, it is NOT worth it but it was too hard to stick to plan this weekend and god it tasted good. I have to clear out the toxins (lots of water drinking) and rest. Someone might need to duck tape me to a chair in the naughty corner for the rest of the week HmmBlush
