New year, new organisation! Fledglings fly in 2018.

Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 15:52

Ooh gosh Cagletini has actually stayed asleep in the buggy after getting back from the shops. And I’m sitting doing nothing... must get up

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 16:07

Hmm well I'm still sitting but am occupied trying to get the laptop to charge. This is essential as tax return info on there and also photos which I want to upload to Google so as not to lose them.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 14/01/2018 16:19

Welcome yellow

Got a fair bit done but now wondering if drained feeling is start of a bug as feel sick. Great. Hopefully be short lived

Ta da

3 loads washed
1 load dry and away
2 loads drying
White load now in
Bins empty
Stairs hoovered
All pots washed
Utensils draw decluttered and cleaned
Living room 1 toys tidy
Downstairs loo clean

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 16:48

Hope you don’t get sick afresh

Today has actually been quite decent I must say. DD got invited on a bike ride with neighbours so I decided to walk to the shops with DS as we needed milk (I also got a few other bits but was relatively restrained, honest...). Feel better for stretching my legs. Tired though and glad Cagletini is having a good sleep now.

Managed to get laptop charging (it’s the old one and the connection is busted) so hopefully soon I can get the info I need, I will also log in to google photos having just done my phone and iPad. Basically once I’ve got this stuff I can get rid of it, I’ve been procrastinating like crazy over it all, in typical Cag style. Living room is a bit of a mess but digital stuff is the priority right now! I can get the Caglets to help later. Dinner in a bit, I’m so glad I decided what to do and prepare a bit of it earlier, as otherwise I’d be sitting here wondering WTF to cook. I am crap at meal planning and the like. Baby steps...

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 17:04

Hope you ok afresh
I have just cause ww3 sticking routines up for each zoolet
Personal hygiene and things like making bed, laundry in bag etc for am routine
Hang up coat, shoes away, homework, pack bags for tomorrow, baths etc for after-school
Bedtime is reminder brush teeth.ds needs learn tie own hair up,definitive lights out time

I am fed up of having nag the basics and have decided consequences for not doing will be imposed.dd2 will get pocket money not endless hand in pocket for X,y,z and sweets make up etc.ds has choice if wants money rather than treats bought.lil zoo wants treats to remain in place(has my lil pony mag each month and sweeties bought for her so not too expensive at present)

For those thinking why not impose this before?because I am not that organised and am fed up of trying sort things out and they constantly muck it up behind me....

Chores will be added in once established
Lil zoo is taking over put out recycling and cleaning front door
DS taking charge wiping hall/stairs of grime(it's him that constantly wipes bastard hands down them)and sweeping front path
Dd2 up in arms as hers incl keeping on top rubbish that's constantly in front garden(joys windy street and be on corner house)((done weekly))
Wash up pet bowlsx3 a day
Sweeping stairs weekly

All be responsible clearing under beds
They are not babies anymore and I am fed up of doing every bloody thing

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 18:38

That’s great zoo it should really help.

Phew, dinner done. Let neighbour child stay as that scores me serious mum points, and will stop DD bugging me for a few weeks at least. Pasta bake was massive anyway so didn’t need to make extra.

Place is a bomb site but meh. Computer is charging on its own so I feel ahead of the game! 😂😂😂

foxessocks · 14/01/2018 18:48

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 19:11

Nice list afresh are you feeling any better?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/01/2018 19:58

Great idea re putting up routines zoo. I keep meaning to do this but the perfectionist in me needs them to look pretty and be ‘right’ before I do. We do have a couple of Topsy and Tim before school routines stuck up - obviously only mainly useful for younger kids.

Cag, I also struggle with meal planning and it is one of the things I would love to get on top of one day.

Amazing list Afresh to say you were feeling poorly.

Woohoo for both DC in bed foxes Smile.

Love SC’s idea of delegating from a command post Cag Grin

Ta da:-
Laundry under control
Bit of paper decluttering
DD2 asleep

To do:-
Wait for DD1 to fall asleep
Calendar check with DH
Forage for snack food

Evening everyone, I'm just going to jump in here rather than read back. Will try a bit harder to keep up!

This evening's Ta Das:
Unblocked the clogged outside drain - OMG it stank!!!
Folded and put away four loads of laundry
Fed cats and cleaned litter trays
Sorted recycling
Unloaded dishwasher
Washed up all the baking trays
Written up DS's reading record, sorted school bags, made packed lunch

DH is having to work abroad all of next week, so just DS and me at home. Hopefully means I can catch up on some flying, and it will stay looking nice!

Bowerbird5 · 14/01/2018 22:28

Welcome Yellowplum and waves to Greymalkin

Ah bless you for letting me have the rant. This thread is the best kept secret of Mumsnet.
This morning I felt like I shouldn't have moaned on here so thank you for being so supportive. I think it is partly because I really don't feel much better and I needed a lovely son to think about his mum not being very well when what I got was a bit of a moany one.
I have seen DS2 this evening for my tea ( out) and mentioned it to him he thinks DS 3 is finally starting to stand on his own two feet and is a bit scared about that. He has always had us, then girlfriend, then moved in with DS2 and now he is 32 and finally living by himself with all that responsibility and he is having a little wobble. So that puts it into perspective.DS1 bought a house at 21, DS2 bought one with me at 23 but had at the time been to uni and moved down the coast into a good job and was living on his own. DS3 has never been a confident child or adult. DD went away to uni with boyfriend in tow at 19 right at the other end of the country so fairly independent. It is funny how they can be so different. Anyway I feel a bit better now I have a different perspective on it.DS2 knows something else but wasn't telling on little brother. Love the loyalty.
Cags shame about the Cd Roms. Will keep a look out for anything else useful.
See it worked. You had little expectation of Sunday and it became better than you expected.
Zoo I went to Leeds about two years ago and the place was teeming with people with trolleys. The market had brilliant vibrant, cheery patterned ones and loads of the young girls were pulling them about with shopping , students stuff etc. I started to want one by the end of the weekend. Love a bargain, how good was that bread. Sandwiches, toast, French toast/ eggy bread, breadcrumbs for freezer all for pennies.
💥Wow 💥 you've all been so busy.
Ta da list
Got up.
Finished bird for little friend.
Went to church( coughed and wheezed all through service as did lady next to me) and had coffee and crack.
Came home to DH effort for lunch - a pie. Some colouring in for school( honest).
Went to choir. Dropped DH on way.
Went to Ds2 on way back to pick up but offered my tea out by DS 2
Home to bed. DH is drunk and on the sofa. Liverpool won.He had tv control and was telling me about this great programme he watched last week. He didn't he watched Vera! He was rambling so I couldn't be bothered and came to bed.
So I have been very lazy. Only reason I went to choir was I am going to comp soon so need to know what we are singing. I did manage a bit so it will be good for lungs. We do exercises too.
My bathroom is lovely and clean just need to wash floor so my other room will be my Craft Room ( that I never went near today) . Poky stick!

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 22:48

Indeed my day has been quite good really. I think before I’d be annoyed at the mess but instead I’m celebrating what I’ve managed to do despite being stuck under the little one.

ta da continued
✅drying finished
✅Caglets put their clothes away (ours/baby’s will have to wait)
✅uploaded over 1000 photos so far (laptop is really slow) and have kept tabs on where I’m up to by renaming each folder
✅decent dinner including a visiting friend, despite the stress of screamy wriggly thing attached to me
✅managed a walk to the shops and back and didn’t spend loads

My knees hurt. Grr

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/01/2018 22:52

Another unproductive flying day 😔 In my defence, it wasn't entirely my fault, the time I was going to use to finish zone 2 didn't happen because my DM couldn't have the DC in the end, and DH and FIL kept switching the power off to do stuff to the sockets, so that didn't help with anything that needed power!
I did manage to get quite a bit done on my craft project instead though, so that was a win 😁 Off to the craft thread now to show off about how much I've got done 😒😂

Bowerbird5 · 14/01/2018 23:14

Grin great!
I'm off to have a look.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/01/2018 23:25

Me: I am going to get home and get unpacked and start the washing and get sorted for tomo and ... and ... and..
What actually happened: unpacked car, yell at ds about homework, sit 'encouraging' ds to complete not the 1 piece he told me but 2 pieces. Eventually send ds to bed at half ten to be told he needs waking up early as he has another piece for tomo Angry

Also me: I will just have a quick check in with the fledglings before going to sleep.
What actually happened: 10 pages, there were at least 10 pages of chatter in 2 days!?! I have read it but sorry my brain is still on fuck it holiday mode. i suspect due to it being the only way to stay sane wrt homework tbh

Afreshcuppateaplease · 15/01/2018 06:01

Morning

We had big homework arguments yesterday with ds2 hills It was ridiculous tbh. Him just ranting on how homework is ruining his life, whats the point, school only give it to torture him. Hes 8 and if he just sat and did it without the fuss it would take about 15min. Instead it took over 2 hours.

Up at 530 to poonami again. Nice.

Dont feel sick though thank god!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 15/01/2018 07:33

Ta da

Ds3 up changed fed dressed
Dd up fed dressed
Ds1&2 dragged from pits
Washer on
3 uniforms ironed
Living room 2 swept

FoolandFitz · 15/01/2018 07:41

Did you enjoy your adventuring hills though? It's always a nightmare coming back from a few days away and having to come back to the routines, especially term time. My DS is the same "fresh" and there's a lot of moaning and ranting every time we do homework. He is 9 and there's loads more homework in Year 5 than in Year 4. It's hard on all of us, especially as neither of us agree with homework. Poor DP does the maths homework with DS and it took 45 minutes yesterday and it's still not finished. It's particular hard for DS as he has poor memory recall for the times table and a poor working memory, it takes ages for him to process.

cag I'm glad yesterday went better for you - much improved from last week.

welcome to yellow and grey and waves to zoo stressy sc and everyone else.

Yesterday I was very busy but I managed to clean and tidy the futility room - it was a mess and had been a mess since before Christmas. DP said he felt he was in an alternate reality once it was sorted.

Have a good day everyone Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/01/2018 08:15

I spendy bloody life arguing over homework

Tada

If we can be like this every day I'd be impressed not however delusional enough to think I've cracked ut
All beds made(to a fashion) PJ's folded and wash in bags.for now I class that as success

ememem84 · 15/01/2018 08:51
