Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

January’s habit is shining your sink.

Happy flying everyone.

Morning all. Up at 530 to ds3 caked in poo. Lovely.

Subtleconstraints · 14/01/2018 06:46

Oh dear re: poonami Afresh. Brew

Great list and great when babies (literally) find their feet Cag! Smile

Enjoy your busy Sunday Whispers sound like you have great family support there!

Ah well, you know what they say Bowerbird about youth being a disease from which we all recover Smile. Sounds like your DC have every reason to be grateful to you.

Ta for links Toostressy!

I am up, for some reason unknown to myself, making a sultana slab cake.

ememem84 · 14/01/2018 07:37

Am going to jump back in if I may. I keep joining this thread with gusto then falling off. But this time....

We are I am decluttering. We want to sell our flat and get a lovely forever home. Ds arrived in September so the flat is full of lovely baby squishiness and toys and clothes and magic chairs and prams....so much stuff.

I read bits of Marie kondo and am going draw/cupboard by drawer/cupboard and am getting rid. Trying to be ruthless. Trying to take a bag out every day. Trying to.

Today’s to do’s:

The under the bed spaces. Two beds. A ton of storage boxes. Let’s see what’s in them and what we can get rid of.

Clean bathroom

Ta da’s:

  • catface fed watered and litter tray scooped
  • ds fed and nappy changed and hopefully back to sleep
  • washing in machine and timer set

Toying with the idea of trying to get a few more zzzz

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 07:40

Awake an hour.crippling backache DP just text don't feel like coming today(depressed).we were ment be going to do big shop/refill cupboards.cheers for that as I now have to go out 4 times to different shops on foot trailing zoolets and carrying as much as we can(bad back will have to snap) I have depression to but it can't ever take priority to feeding zoolets
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 07:43

Hope in and out as often as you like emenem I've fallen off wagon so often probably why I've got a bad backGrin

Afreshcuppateaplease · 14/01/2018 07:55

Welcome em

Zoo that is crap of your dp why is it always the mum who plods on regardless! Can you not do half shop today and half tomorrow?

Ta da

Na da

Bowerbird5 · 14/01/2018 08:24

Sorry for rant last night. Feel better after a reasonable sleep.
🍹🍰 Afresh for you after cleaning the poor aim! Havent forgotten those either. You do wonder, sometimes, how so much poo can come out of one little body.
ememem84 you sound like you are doing well nothing like a move to motivate you especially a forever house.
zoo that is so inconsiderate of him. I would text back and say " And how do you think I am supposed to manage now?"
Have you any friends who would help out or could you afford a taxi back /ask him for the money? I've seen people do this and thought what a good idea I never thought of that when I couldn't drive I just did two trips to town on the bus instead of one. Little ones in tow.
afresh It's because mums just hoak their big girl pants up and get on with it. I don't know how blokes have the gall to say no sometimes with no shame or guilt.
Pity one of us didn't live near zoo we could have done it. Is there any friends you could call and ask if they could at the very least pick you up?

Plan for today.
One hour in craft room. Split into two half hours or four fifteen minutes. It was definitely better once I put radio on. I listened to a really unusual short story yesterday.
Meal is left overs.
One half load of washing
Colouring for school.

foxessocks · 14/01/2018 08:41

zoo that is really unfair. I know you'll get it all done but you shouldn't have to!

sc i made a sultana tray bake yesterday! (Did I already say that? Can't remember!) We had it with custard after dinner.dh and ds loved it but me and dd weren't so keen.

Have a relaxing Sunday where possible everyone ! We are off bowling later.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 14/01/2018 09:02

I find this thread good for ranting bower

I threw away ds3s vest it was that bad, yuck. I blame his teeth.

Ta da

Bins empty
All dc fed
Ds3 changed and dressed
Other dc ordered to get dressed

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 09:44

Aw thank you Bower unfortunately our current laptop is one of those tiny ones without a CD drive, so I’d have no way of using them, but thank you very much for thinking of me Thanks (I also just realised that means we can’t use the Muzzy CDROMs that came with the DVDs. Dammit.)

Hello em

Ah afresh babies are gross

Zoo he does seem to opt out rather a lot Hmm you can’t really opt out when you have kids though, as others have said mums just have to push through regardless most of the time. Asking him for taxi money would be good. In future could you get a delivery instead? My friend makes her boys wear empty backpacks when they all go to the shops.

Sleep not too bad, Cagletini had a five hour stretch, and then three more hours next to me after a brief feed, which seems to be the routine she’s got herself into. Next aim is to start getting her back into her bed after the 5am feed, I’m torn because it means DH could actually stay in bed with me all night :o but also it means I have to stay awake through the full feed in order to put her back in bed.

I am keeping in mind today that Sunday’s Are Allowed To Be Shit. After the last few being shit anyway. DH is getting some stuff done this morning as I will struggle to do it later. Will also tell the Caglets they can only play out till 4, as it’s dark not long after that and then I have to faff about wondering where they’ve gone to get them in. 4pm can be the limit for the next few weeks.

Not placing any more expectations on myself at all!

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 09:45

SUNDAYS. Autocorrect added an erroneous apostrophe 😡😡

yellowplumpreserves · 14/01/2018 10:11

Haven't RTFT yet but can join in a little late?

ememem84 · 14/01/2018 10:21
Afreshcuppateaplease · 14/01/2018 10:23

cag i HATE sundays with a passion, that backpack idea is genius

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 11:03

Dd2 wears an empty backpack and takes some heavier items(potatoes, apples or milk etc)bless her.shea steps up when needed.theres no I in teamWink
He wouldn't go halves for let alone pay taxi.i had 45 quid and cupboards are literally bare.no cereal, milk, bread, fruit, pasta, anything for dinners,no frozen veg etc...
Been co op for milk and they had a few reduced bits at one further from home we snaffled up
Drop lil zoo and D's at church n went local row shops-we have a heron foods so scoop up a few bits there.waitrose is next door and we went in as needed DF milk and I'd been told is 3 for £3 at mo.dd2 spotted a Warburton loaf accidently reduced 10p with tomorrow's date on.quickly chuck that in basket😂
Off get zoolets then a 40minute trek to Morrison's.dd2 has her bag at the ready.my backs killing me but it's not as bad as a breaking heart cos kids need more food and there isn't any
Like said upthread hoik up the big girl pants n keep going...if he texts me later n asks come over/have to he can go to hell in a handbasketAngry
As for rest of the day hoping to fit in a bit pampering

Afreshcuppateaplease · 14/01/2018 11:12

zoo you need a pram. I purposefully bought one with huge basket for lugging shopping. Great for heavy stuff like milk.

Sainsburies had alpro milk £1 last week i stocked up then

We have a HF too. Find it good for lunch box bits and drinks.

ememem84 · 14/01/2018 11:45

zoo or maybe an “old lady” shopping trolley. I bought one for dsis a while ago so she could cart her marking to and from school.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/01/2018 12:32

I seriously considering the trolley...I'd love another baby excuse for a pram but sadly think I too old for that!!

Subtleconstraints · 14/01/2018 13:04

Great to have you back Ememem! Congrats on baby ds who sounds lovely and how exciting about forever home! Good luck with the decluttering!

I like Sundays best when they are either mahoosively busy or involve nags (equine version) or totally flopsville.

Afresh aw I used to love shopping with a pram; I had a big old fashioned model inherited from my sister and the entire week's shopping could be slung on the rack underneath; it was brilliant!

[Presents Zoo with generous slice of tray bake with tea in china cup and fluffy orthopaedic cushion.]

Zoo I have two shopping trolleys now and they are among my most prized possessions (along with dishwasher to hark back to earlier discussion!). One is thermal for frozen or hot foods and I use them almost daily for sprints to local shops as I loathe "grande surface" shopping. Then order all bulky or heavy items on line; ie loo rolls, washing liquid, tins etc. Maybe that could be an option for you? (Although I know you are feeding more people than me!). I am Angry on your behalf though that you even have to ask; shouldn't your dp be offering?

Foxes funny about blokes and their love of nursery food isn't it? My DH would (almost) do anything for a steamed pud, a jam roly poly or a spotted dick Grin. Can't link atm but sultana slab cake recipe from lancashire food blogspot is good!

Enjoy the crafting Bowerbird!

Sensible to lower Sunday expectations Cag.

Maybe Flylady has a point with this renewing of spirit thing?

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Ta da:
baking and washing up
tidy of makeshift kitchen
more recycling organisation
made huge twiggy flower arrangement think
tidied, dusted, polished, hoovered sitting room
swept dried mud from hall and bashed hell out of doormats
s&s bathroom
toured fields and discussed drainage options
served cake and coffee
nipped to supermarket

We've just had quick lunch and I'm off to watch DD ride now, while dh spends a happy hour or two faffing around with ancient mini tractor/lawnmower thing.

Lovely day here, frosty this morning, bright, cold and sunny now Smile

Subtleconstraints · 14/01/2018 13:10

Meant to add Cag to lowering Sunday expectations bit; then anything you do get done is a bonus and you are definitely allowed some down time for yourself! (Not exactly easy with Cagletini though I know.)

Subtleconstraints · 14/01/2018 13:18

X posts

You need a bonnet-wearing chihuahua in a pram Zoo no one will notice, honest Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/01/2018 13:21

Hello all, at a children’s birthday party here so they are burning off some energy Grin.

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 13:23

Yes I think you’re right, I need to just remember to celebrate what I do get done on Sundays. And any day to some extent :o

Thing is with BFing, and particularly as Cagletini is a very slow feeder, I do get quite a lot of time to sit and chill, but I feel like I need to organise myself better so I can actually enjoy that IYSWIM. Rather than sitting there stressing that I’m not getting anything done.

ta da
✅put dryer on (DH washed it this morning)
✅second wash on, it’s just finished so will dry it
✅made my lunch before DH left
✅prepared a bit of dinner to save time later
✅workbook with DS
✅started writing shopping list

Cagliostro · 14/01/2018 13:25

Welcome yellow!

The author who contacted me this week actually does use a pram for her pug, in fact she featured it in the first book :)

Subtleconstraints · 14/01/2018 13:33

Arf at pug! Great Sunday list Cag YY can see bf difficult to combine with other activities. You ideally need to be able to delegate from your "command post"!

Sorry, didn't see you there Yellowplum! Welcome!

Wine for after party Toostressy!

Must get going!
