Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

I was in bed for 1030, ds was up and down 12-1 and then i slept til 6 when he woke for the day. Sorry you had bad night zoo

foxessocks · 12/01/2018 10:34

Morning everyone. afresh that sounds like a pretty good night. zoo not so good for you- I was up in the night with cramps too actually. Ds woke up once at 4 and then briefly again at 6. Dd keeps doing massive wees (she still wears a pull up at night). We were going to stop the pull ups when she turns 4 because she had gone months without weeing at night and now suddenly not anymore...can't think of anything that has changed?!Confused
Ta da
Dd to nursery
Toddler group with Ds

To do
Daily routine
Declutter kitchen
Mop kitchen
Declutter bag purse car
Swish and swipe bathroom

Cagliostro · 12/01/2018 11:05

Did she have anything with sweeteners in? My totally dry DS wet the bed a few times after a while, and MN helped me figure out it was because he’d had squash with aspartame.

Wakeful night here but only briefly each time as I just latched her on and dozed off. It feels ok doing that now she’s bigger.

DH has done some housework this morning, I’ve been in bed with the baby (OMG just realised time) but did their maths and spellings.

Need to dig out the laptop charger and set that up (it’s a really dodgy connection so requires careful positioning and yelping at clumsy Caglets if they go anywhere near it! Come to think of it I could just charge it in our room instead 🤔), catch up with diary, get washing dry, hang up towels, get other home ed done and sort out the old baby clothes to get some different vests out

foxessocks · 12/01/2018 12:17

Thanks cag she did have squash with dinner last night but can't remember the night before. She usually has water with dinner or milk but sometimes squash. I'll make sure she has water tonight.

Ta das
Nearly finished daily routine

To do
Laundry
Everything else!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 13:03

foxes believe it or not red squash drinks(blackcurrant/summer berries) irritate the bladder more than orange/lemon(so I learned when a friend's dad kept getting UTI and after a nasty kidney infection they see urologist who asked what she drank...)

I need a pointy stick.a big fat sharp one...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/01/2018 13:09

zoo ————————————————>

I agree foxes, it can’t hurt to limit squash and see what happens.

I am in the middle of home bleugh. Ugh.

I am stuck under a grumpy arse baby. Today not going to plan 😱😂

Afreshcuppateaplease · 12/01/2018 13:28

Urgh i need pointy stick too please

Cagliostro · 12/01/2018 14:03

========> nice fat pointy stick :o

Still struggling today but I've been sorting through outgrown baby clothes while feeding so that's something. Thankfully DH did a lot of general housework before he left.

I'm going to get the Caglets to bring down their clothes to sort through. Won't be a perfect job as there's some clothes in the dryer (see the old me would wait until that's done) but it's something I can supervise now and we can at least get the bulk done.

Lisette40 · 12/01/2018 14:07

house at a standstill here - caught ds's tummy upset. argghh.

Will do a swish and swipe when I gather strength. Laundry piling up though.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 14:07

Tada
Pulled out cooker n clean behind it
Washed floor on hands n knees
Back not happy

Cagliostro · 12/01/2018 14:15

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 14:33

I need a nap but need to go get lil zoo in ten(sobs)hoping the hour round trip walk wakes me up doubtful

Cagliostro · 12/01/2018 15:16

Ugh why am I in such a shit mood?! I had sleep, I'm managing to get stuff done... And yet I want everyone to sod off so I can go to bed.

FoolandFitz · 12/01/2018 18:21

So I have been mostly lurking and following the thread, keeping up with everyone's stories and successes. Babies and kitten on laps sounds lovely. Smile I am jealous of the new kitchen bower I am another one who doesn't have a dishwasher and can't afford one - we can commiserate together afresh

I myself have been doing basic flying this week. My non-negotiables. That's about all I can manage mostly. I can only fully fly during the holidays.

Today's extra ta-das:
Quick tidy of porch
Did 10,000 steps at work

I have also kept to my resolutions of washing up snack plates and cups before bed as well as just watching an hour of TV. I have managed to take my iron everyday as well and most days I have been in bed by 10.30. I have also walked most evenings. I've failed at taking my vitamin D tablets though but will still work at it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 18:58

Ta da
T
Dinner made n eaten
Dishes washes
Ginger cupcakes also made
Drop zoolets at choir
Quick tidy up of front room
I now have just over 30 mins before need get ready to go get them then I need to eat...

Tidy2018 · 12/01/2018 19:40

Hello. My kitchen is almost the same as that in "Terry and June". A very old sitcom. I'd love a new one with bifold doors to he garden and good lighting. Just a dream for now.

Today I worked towards being more organised by going through notebooks and diaries. Notes from 2017 are labelled and filed in porridge box, probably never to be looked at again. I avoid purpose-made filing systems because they make me twitchy about getting it perfect.

It felt good to shred and recycle.

Next is to ensure that all appts, etc, are entered in diary. Also to list phone calls and similar that must be made on Monday. Starting food-and-activity diary over weekend.

Evening and morning routines need written down and refined. Also meds and bedtimes.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/01/2018 20:07

Hello lovely fledglings Smile.

Cag well done on clothes sorting while cuddling baby! I’m sure we can all sympathise with the feeling of wanting to be left alone to rest / sleep.

Oh no lisette, hope you feel better very soon.

zoo, very impressive to clean behind oven Shock.

New kitchen idea sounds great Bower.

Basic flying with non-negotiables in termtime sounds very sensible Fooland and well done for keeping so many resolutions going.

Tidy, I am on a constant quest to be more organised Grin. You sound as if you are taking some great steps.

Ta da:-
Both DDs now asleep, DH on the way home from work and he is picking up fish and chips on the way home for us.

To do:-
Laundry
Evening routine
15 mins decluttering if I get time.

Here is the daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 2 this week which is
the kitchen.

However, it’s the weekend, so no missions or zone work unless you want to.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 2.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 2 is here.

Thank you, Stressy :-)) I surprised myself this evening by forging ahead with my evening Routine list and Morning Routine list. I also made a call to confirm an arrangement for the weekend. Procrastination be gone!

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/01/2018 22:52

Evening everyone 😊

Not sure where that pointy stick was today, but it definitely wasn't here 😳 didn't manage any flying except the dishwasher 😔
At least it's Friday though, I've got all weekend to ignore the housework now 😁
Hope for a night of good sleep all round, it sounds like we all need it! 😴
Thanks for the links for tomorrow 😊

Afreshcuppateaplease · 12/01/2018 22:55
