Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

I caught it !

Well I don't need the pointy stick.
Can't believe it but I went to bed with the thought that I would get up and do ironing. I did think about it at 7:30am but wait till 9. I did all the ironing and put it away after every five items. So all away. Bed changed with help. Later DH leant over banister and watched me taking books off shelf and vacuum them I couldn't believe the cheek of him. I told him to go away if he wasn't going to help instead of watching me. I was boiling mad. He went downstairs. He came back up after I ranted and called him a rude word and reminded him I shouldn't be near dust! He helped me and we have done the lot six shelves! Every book off, shelf dusted, books dusted or vacuumed or both and put back in a better order. Some removed for school or charity shop/ hospice. Not many but a few means the others fit. Vacuumed downstairs and fire lit this morning.
Kitchen tomorrow. Oh and I made roasted red pepper, tomato and basil soup while doing bookcase😁

Have you noticed how much flying we are all doing in January?
I think we are all cracking this flying.

WhispersOfWickedness · 11/01/2018 21:55

Another slow day as I've been out from 8.30 til 6... only got the dishwasher refilled and on. Definitely don't ask me to put you off dishwashers, I love mine so much, it's only the washing machine that comes above it in my mind of appliances I couldn't live without, and that's including the fridge and freezer 😂
Cag - hooray for the extra sleep, 6 hours in one go is amazing!
I'm back at work tomorrow (starting a new business, so it's all hands on deck before our launch next week 😬), although I do have a dentist appointment to go to first 😭
Hope everyone else is ok 😊

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 22:22

Good luck at dentist whispers
Bower you go girl!!!deffoStarStarfor you.impressed with soup and decluttering!!take it steady tho.dont want you making yourself worse

Tidy2018 · 11/01/2018 22:37

The kitchen is a bit cleaner and more under control. It's getting easier to stick to daily habits, and both fridge-freezers are cleaner and tidier. I went shopping with a list! Small bookcase with cookbooks, healthy eating, decorating, diy, has been unearthed from heaps of charity bags that come through the letterbox, the as yet untouched mending pile, and the "may come in useful" stack of cardboard boxes. Floor blobs wiped, but still a long way to go.

Evening all :)

Hills your description of the squeaky plates makes me want to cry 😳🙉 I absolutely hate the feel of the crockery out of the dishwasher, in fact one of the reasons I’m training the Caglets to put the washing up away is so that when we move (mum has promised to buy us a DW! ❤️) it can be their job to unload it! Happy to load, wash up etc but oh god the squeakiness makes me want to dunk myself in hand cream (except most hand creams make me feel funny too, so it’s Norwegian formula or nothing)

ta da
✅got organised for trip out with snacks, water bottles etc. Seemed to take all morning though and we missed the bus!
✅DD occupational therapy appt, really useful, wrote down ideas throughout.
✅DD has new tap shoes (although I sat in Costa feeding the baby while the others went :o)
✅started planning our summer holiday
✅two towel washes, now in dryer
✅did my first survey thing online for months, as I got an email saying my account would expire, hopefully that’s a good kick start as I want to do more this year to earn a few quid
✅spellings and maths
✅tried a times tables game on the train. They’re definitely getting more comfortable with ‘work’, I’m so pleased with their progress ⭐️
✅phoned author about her new manuscript, she’s sending me the first bit soon to type up, this was a great earner last time so yay money!
✅cancelled tomorrow’s lesson, or rather generously said “do you want to leave it this week” 😳 they are super busy this week anyway and it gives me breathing space so better all round (just need to not be in the position next week where I’m just as panicky)
✅arranged future lesson times for loads of friends. Things will be busy. I’m quite nervous TBH as no idea how it’ll work with the baby, they are mostly very good friends though so will cuddle her, or not be bothered if I keep her in the sling or stop to feed etc. But I’m still very apprehensive and desperately hoping it won’t be too much for us as a family. Because money. And it does seem to make a difference to the pupils too :)

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/01/2018 00:48

Funnily enough Cag the only hand cream I can tolerate is Norwegian too. Rest is too slimy. Not a fan of lip balm type stuff or sand. But I have a whole collection of sensory issues. Just don't ask me about electrical equipment that buzzes or hums...

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 06:54

Morning all
Not a sensory thing just a dermititis fucked up skin thing. But I like Norwegian formula.only cream that don't just sit their all slimey and doing nothing...

I digress
Tada
Kits fed
Wash on
About make breakfast

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2018 07:16

Kids next door up at 6:10 and dad shouting at them just as I was about to doze off as been awake since 4:20am. Slamming van doors at 6:55am so must be in a bad mood😤 never mind I can nap later as still off school. DH out from lunchtime till late as doing a favour for friend. Ended up a bigger favour than expected - driving to next county to Thirsk😳

Plan for today
Sleep( no just joking)
Sort, declutter and tidy hall stuff as bookcase area looks so lovely now at top of stairs it has spurred me on to organise the rest.
15 in the dungeon of doom( craft room) plus 15 in afternoon. Starting a daily 15 mins to find my way in( and hopefully out) for rest of January.
Tidy Rayburn.

Been debating for hours whether to not have Aga/Rayburn in new kitchen. Plans drawn up without but I really loved it on. DH wouldn't get old one fixed and now I think I should have ignored him and used it. We hardly ever sit in kitchen because it is cold. It used to be so lovely and cosy. I have a lovely green and brass cooker which I don't want to get rid of but should I swap for new/ reconditioned Aga. Decisions, decisions! If I don't have one they could do kitchen in Feb half term. They are a bit quite at present but have orders for later in year. Hmm. The kitchen is expensive but they do everything which DH likes the sound of. It will be such a change. Less cluttered look.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 12/01/2018 07:16

Morning all Brew

Ta da

Dryer on
Small two dc fed

Afreshcuppateaplease · 12/01/2018 07:19

I would love to have my kitchen done! We decorated and new floor when bought the house but the actual layout isnt working for us. However if we cant afford a dishwasher we certainly cant afford a kitchen!

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/01/2018 09:30

Morning all 😊

Sat in the dentist waiting room 😬

Cag - my children do dancing too, they have both got a couple of exams at the beginning of February 😊 DD has ballet and modern and DS has ballet and tap. It's so expensive, especially with two of them 😱

Bower - new kitchen sounds great! We have vague plans for a new kitchen too, but it's probably a few years off yet, DH is painfully slow at DIY and won't ever just pay someone else to do it 🙄

Ta da:
Dishwasher
Laundry on
To do:
Dentist 🙈
Work
Laundry in dryer
Think I'll leave the floor til the weekend, but might clean out a cupboard or two 😊

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/01/2018 09:35

Morning all Brew.

Hope the dentist is ok Whispers. Dancing is definitely expensive Confused.

Wing flaps to Afresh,Bower, Cag, Hills and everyone else.
