Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

January’s habit is shining your sink.

Happy flying everyone.

Me too.

The new kitchen is because we've had the other one 30 years. I can't believe I am saying that but we have and it was never finished. Shelves still up instead of cupboards because we could only afford the base ones due to plumbers bill going from a bout £5/600 to nearly £3,000. We discovered pipes coming in were lead and then others all broken and had to be redone. So I want to get it right.
It must be the weather I have been tired and grumpy until DH went out then I was tired and lazy. Didn't get everything done that I wanted but did lots of -sorting- watching telly.
Ta Das
Load of washing in.
Swished and swiped bathroom but gave the shower doors a good clean now sparkling.
Reorganised stuff under table in sitting room. Went through all magazines and Christmas catalogue/ magazines. Now in piles -Country Living, vegan, RHS. Random. Pile to go for recycling.
Stuff in hall upstairs. Some toys. Washed/scrubbed twin dolls. Reminisced over baby doll - Baby Annabel ? She pees anyway. A couple of teddies. Wondered if I could wash one. Reorganised box then put most of it back because don't know where to put it.
Vacuumed sitting room because DH left mud on carpet from bringing logs in😤 and did hall.
Made bed, put thousands of cushions back on.
Had fish cake and baked tattie for tea and really enjoyed it.
Not as wheezy today but tired. Hope I have a bit more energy tomorrow. Didn't go into the dungeon as too scared/ lazy. DH just came back then went out again. I 've waited up for him but can't be bothered now. Gone to bed.

Well that was quite a day. After my ranty post earlier I did fall asleep, the nap was decent but I vastly overestimated how much time we had after to get ready for ballet. So it ended up being a big rush, and we missed the bus we should get. So I was super stressed, and guilty. If I’d had time I would have posted here while trying to keep it together (you know those times when something quite small just pushes you over the edge into meltdown? Yeah, that). Quite proud though that I was still bothering to go, rather than give up and go home, as per my resolution to improve attendance.

So we arrived less than ten minutes late and I felt better when another pupil sauntered in just behind us. Sat and fed Cagletini (who had been rather grumpy on the bus, which didn’t help) and felt better. Then on the way out, when we were supposed to visit the shop for milk and cereal, I realised I’d forgotten my bank card. So I didn’t even have bus fare let alone money for the shop (tiny amount of change but even that was DS’ pocket money which I’d already borrowed from to get to ballet in the first place). I could’ve got a ticket on my phone but I thought naaaah let’s try walking.

And I did it! For those who don’t ‘know’ me I have fibromyalgia, CFS and a condition called POTS, and since I became ill with those in 2012 I haven’t attempted that particular walk even once. But today I did it. Yay! And I didn’t feel too knackered afterwards, I managed to cook dinner straight away. I couldn’t even manage that after the much smaller school run a few years ago.

Anyway. List time before I doze off.

ta da
✅maths, spellings and workbook (so bare minimum really, as last term it was maths and spellings only, my aim for the next few weeks is those two plus A. N. Other thing absolute minimum, hopefully more)
✅DH did loads of day to day stuff before work, laundry, washing up etc
✅sorted huge box of baby clothes into piles, later I managed to pack up some but not all (grumpy baby)
✅got Caglets to bring down their clothes, they sorted a few things to chuck and we have a pile of things to give to smaller friends hopefully next week
✅pulled out a few more 0-3m vests from the box of hand me downs so no need to buy anything
✅tried on a few things/made decisions on charity shop
✅repacked charity shop stuff into two big bags for DH to take tomorrow

Think I’ll need a more restful day tomorrow but DH is off so at least I can absolve responsibility :o friends visiting too so I’ll probably disappear with them for lunch. I’m really pleased as I’ve managed a reasonably productive day all week, and haven’t given up, so that’s a vast improvement.

Still haven’t found the laptop charger though!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/01/2018 05:29

Now that's organised Afresh! Relieved to hear you had a bit of a flop yesterday (although I imagine a flop with four DC isn't that restful). Sorry you are still feeling crap though Flowers

Congrats on the walking Cag!

Careful with mould and your chest Bowerbird!

foxessocks · 13/01/2018 08:59

Morning all. Sorry about your stressful start afresh

I'm just having a coffee and contemplating breakfast. Kids are watching tv with dh. Don't really know what to do today yet.

To do
Daily routine
Supermarket

Feeling a bit unmotivated so far...

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/01/2018 09:23

afrsh if I beg and offer money please can I put dd2 in your cellar.blood will be shed imminently if she keeps going.hers or mine.i past caring which

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/01/2018 09:32

Of course zoo I hope she likes spiders. Cellar door also bolts on outside.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/01/2018 09:46

She's all yours then.shall I put her in a box and send her recorded delivery to the afresh residence😁

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/01/2018 10:11

Oh yes. Dont forget air holes in the box

Bowerbird5 · 13/01/2018 10:14
Grin

Sounds like a plan!

It wasn't me with mould SC but I'm sure I could find some in this old house. Seems to be some on grout but going to give that job to DH as it "bothers my asthma" I think in the spring I will scrape the grout out and put fresh in.
I know it looks like I did a lot but I took it downstairs and did it while I was sitting on sofa half watching telly. It was mainly sorting through stuff. The sort that Cags has a name for (damn forgotten) which I was going to pinch cos it was such a good one. Fits me perfectly. Been called the bag lady before(more than once😳) especially at school. I have loads for different days. I have those GOOD bags I have about five plus one a mum had customised locally with drawings and my name on. It is lovely, my favourite.
Well so far I have done nothing!
I also LOL at Whispers comment.
Had a better sleep( wonders if next door have gone to grannies) and woke up at 8:50am I was awake lots of times in the night but managed to go back to sleep. Didn't cough at all so must be improving.
Only one Item on plan
Venture into the cave of doom! Couldn't face it yesterday so plan is to get up, make bed( hate Flylady's make bed straight away as I always air mine. ) and then bring stuff from craft room to mine😨 and sort some in there. Then put back and repeat each day for 30 minutes ( hopefully get keen and do more) and owe myself yesterday's 30min so 1 hour today. It is such a mess my best friend went😳😳😳 when she saw it. I have dumped a lot in it in a hurry/ visitors dash n' stash. In my defence it is a very small room( single bed only) and the shelves are all neat and tidy WITH labels on the baskets of stash.
I'm not doing kitchen at the moment because I did it before Christmas and need to think about a plan for getting it ready for demolition and out of action for 10 days. My plan this weekend is to make a menu plan to eat most of the ingredients in the cupboards especially my baking cupboard. This will not help the diet( what diet) but I could make cake for church. We do tea and coffee afterwards and lots of people stay now. My friend and I started it😀 to help people get to know each other and support anyone who needs it. Might bake something easy and take tomorrow. DH is up and made me tea😄 he is now moving logs. Must have done him good to drive friend miles and miles away yesterday.
Commiserate with all the early birds and squabbling. How dare they on a Saturday!

Cagliostro · 13/01/2018 11:24

It’s BRC or Bags/Boxes of Random Crap, Bower :o sadly my house is basically an HRC 🙈

Really need to sort stuff but it’s tricky without DH or DD (DS is too clumsy to hold a wriggly baby!)

Subtleconstraints · 13/01/2018 11:26

Sorry to get wrong end of stick Bowerbird - yes, meant Zoo!

Good luck with Aga/Rayburn decision btw - nice dilemma to have! Smile

And I am totally with you on the bed airing - yurgh - can't bear Flylafy instructions to make straightaway!

We are moving logs too currently ... DD very grumpily ...

Subtleconstraints · 13/01/2018 11:27

Flylafy??? Confused

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/01/2018 11:50

Hello all, very impressive ta da lists for a weekend!

Also agree on bed airing!

Ta da:-
Morning routine
At dancing with DDs so will be back on in a bit

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 13/01/2018 12:07

It's ok but know mould is a step too far at present so good excuse to get DH to do that but need a very, very pointy stick!

Ah that's it thanks Cags I was going to re scroll to remind myself.

Bags / boxes of Random crap Yep definitely sums it up. DH just say throw it😳 wish I could be that ruthless. Get sentimental when people give me things and don't like to give them away but there is a lot now.
Aga /Rayburn dilemma is no more DH has said no doesn't think we need it won't even discuss even though I want to then started go on about " do what you like ...i 'lol just here about it for years." Yes, I have pointed out crap decisions years later about two. Like he made me get rid of my dog a week after we married and there was another long story about him turning down house and making up a story that I believed for thirty five plus years. He admitted one ( drunk) night it was a lie!😳

Anyway just to say I'm in....

The craft/ crap room!

Just in case I don't return. I have ipad( for play radio 4 ) coffee and stollen. Done half an hour but had to come up for refreshments as thirsty.

Subtleconstraints · 13/01/2018 12:12

God luck, we'll send in refreshments Bowerbird Smile! Oh no Sad Sad about the dog.

Waves to Toostressy. (Thinking nostalgically back to Sat dance classes!)

I need to stop Mnsnetting and get on!

Subtleconstraints · 13/01/2018 12:14

And shame about Aga/Rayburn Bowerbird we are researching continental equivalents for wreck2 but dh not keen either.
