Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

January’s habit is shining your sink.

Happy flying everyone.

I pay it voluntarily callme for all those reasons. I was paid maternity allowance because of it when I had ds and it was very useful.

Thanks everyone - I went for a beer in the end! Mainly because that's what dh was having and I was too lazy to make a decision.

Dd randomly woke up at 8.30 after being (we assume) asleep for an hour and then had a major strop that we wouldn't let her come back downstairs Confused definitely needed the beer after that!

Cagliostro · 11/01/2018 00:05

I still need to do mine and I’m hoping that this year I can be more organised with record keeping, and do it in April. I need to dig out the old laptop charger as all the info is on there. It’s really not much, I don’t think I even have any expenses to add. I just get really panicky about forms especially when it’s important financial stuff. I did it late and got fined last year because I didn’t have time to get the info I needed from my old employer by the time I started it.

ta da
✅got clothes all put away (just need to bring baby stuff up)
✅baths all round
✅located some paperwork I thought I’d lost
✅workbook with DS

Tomorrow we will be out much of the day so I’m glad we did achieve some bedroom tidying, but it does mean I’m panicking about the living room again, it just goes downhill so fast! Hoping we can get stuff done in the morning, as we then have DD1’s occupational therapist appt and then we are getting the train to another town to buy tap shoes, then getting a train halfway back to go to Badgers, where at least DH and I can have a meal together while the Caglets attend. So that’ll be nice but it’s not leaving us much time to sort the living room for Friday’s pupil. Some stash and dashing is going to be required - there are so many random bits and pieces on various surfaces.

I will also try and remember to charge the old laptop while we are out (it doesn’t charge well though, so this is a bit precarious). Need to at least do the minimum home ed as well. I’m always a bit nervous meeting new HCPs for the Caglets as you never know how they are going to be about home ed. DD is actually going to take a book she’s been making (I got her a pop up book making kit for Christmas and she decided to write one about British monarchy :o) but that’s mostly so she can look at handwriting etc.

Cagletini has been in her basket for a while so I should really sleep.

Bowerbird5 · 11/01/2018 00:23

Yes, thank you call me for the recipe. I have printed it off to go in my homemade recipe book. I have a really dark fruit cake in there that makes a wonderful wedding cake. A vicar once told me it was the best wedding cake he had ever tasted and added I done lots of weddings. Praise indeed. It is a long slow process though as it has lots of fruit and the are all measured separately.

Cags great tiding mine is messy again due to the visitor. So if I feel up to it will redo tomorrow because I don't like it now.
Foxes you both deserve a beer. Well done.
I felt really washed out all day. Must have been the dash and stash yesterday.
Plan for tomorrow
Iron the clothes in my bedroom and put them away.
Get DH to help me change sheets.
Shoes!
Sort bedroom
Bookcase- take books off and get DH to vacuum all the dust off them 3 shelves.wipe shelves. Remove any I don't love. Hmm!
I f I manage to get all that done tomorrow I will be pleased but will be roping DH in hopefully. Will then do colouring and laminating and one bag decluttered.
If I don't get any done sharpen that stick.

Afreshnewyearplease · 11/01/2018 06:25

Morning all. 5am wake up from ds3. Dd up several times from having nightmares. Think they are trying to finish me off.

Good lists all round!

Hope zoo is awake!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 06:38

afresh sleep is for the weak don't ya knowBrew
I am up.lil zoo woke me ,530 triumphantly "you won't oversleep today".....

Today's task is tackle the craft drawers and my big stash of wool etc so I can start a project.its a job I've been avoiding as going take quite some time....

If I do not return before 230 send a fir looking fireman to retrieve me from cupboard understairsGrin

foxessocks · 11/01/2018 06:38

afresh Brew ds up at 6 but he was so so grumpy and now he seems to havegone back to sleep. I may as well get up now though!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 06:39

Fir?fitBlush

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 06:41

Lil zoo woke me she was already dressed
She's been doing her sequin art giraffe to pass the time til breakfast

Afreshcuppateaplease · 11/01/2018 06:43

foxes our ds3 has not woken like that and then gone back to sleep for a long time. I pretty much have to get up once he wakes up because hes SOOOO noisy. Hes getting quite stressy now too and clearly makes it known when he does not want something (eg his face washed) by shouting, shaking his head and attempting to smack me Shock stroppy bugger

Well done on being up zoo this house doesnt have an understairs cupboard of doom unfortunately. It does have a cellar. But there are spiders down there so i dont go in not even to stash junk

Ta da

Ds3 up fed changed and dressed
Casserole from slow cooker now in fridge

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 06:50

Ooooh a cellar

Afreshcuppateaplease · 11/01/2018 06:57

Yes we have threatened older dc with cellar however have not actually put it to use yet It is yuck down there. Im not that mean yet

foxessocks · 11/01/2018 07:38

Haha yes the head shaking and hitting when annoyed sounds familiar! Luckily my Ds bedroom is tucked away a bit from the rest of us so we can leave him to shout for a bit without disturbing any neighbours or dd! Usually he goes back to sleep after a bit of a protest. Thing is if I get him up he is just really grumpy all morning and he won't nap any earlier unless I take him out in the car.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/01/2018 08:39

I am going to be honest. I resent getting out of bed when my hot water bottle is still warm.
Ds has been dispatched and I managed to get to bed an hour earlier would have been earlier still but i wandered onto a tv program accidentally and it lasted 2 hours and by the time the first hour was up I wanted to see the ending Blush
Plan for today? All. the. things. well all the things except lego. Not touching the lego. Hmm

Off to make a cup of tea as coughing now. DH won't bother to get up for hours yet. I meant to put Teasmade on but forgot to wash out , fill with water and bring teas up. I have little sachets of different herb/ fruit teas. DD thought it was great when she was here, she came and climbed in, mug ready!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 09:15

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 09:18

PS afreshall mine were noisy Herbert's once wanted to get up could scream a house down wake whole street
On the cellar front if they drive you nutty enough angry clean then either claim as your space or build in a dungeon and I will send mine round when they are too muchGrin

Cagliostro · 11/01/2018 09:22

I feel a bit guilty now as Cagletini slept six hours straight - longest ever! She then had a very quick boob and slept on my arm for another couple of hours. So I feel quite decent really.

So much to do today. I think DD1 is getting upset over maths though, I think it’s probably better if I write their daily questions as DH makes them too hard! Whereas I am a bit better at making sure they progress gradually (if I do say so myself).

Busy day ahead. Need to somehow get the living room done!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 09:26

I was just putting coat on to leave when phone alert me to a post😁
Yay cagletini
Good luck on the cleaning!!

Off out now!!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 11/01/2018 09:35

Looking at dishwashers even though we cant afford one and have no where to put one. So sick of washing up.

Ta da

Me and 3dc up fed dressed out 840
Casserole from slow cooker now in fridge
Breakfast table cleared and cleaned
Washer on
Dryer on
3 uniforms ironed
2 packed lunches made
School run done
Bins empty

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/01/2018 10:12

Our dishwasher has stripped our dishes of their gloss and they squeak really really badly now. Yes they are labour saving but we are going to have to replace the dishes again or I will kill someone as the squeak their knives and forks against them. Otoh it is good for our allergy cross contamination elimination. I am in two minds as to whether they are the work of the devil or a massive help although in this house everything gets washed before it goes in the dishwasher which is rather bat shit crazy

I am about to move. Don't want to is featuring a lot atm. It is a lack of sleep thing.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 11/01/2018 10:24

Thankyou hills More dishwasher negatives please folks

I keep sitting down Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/01/2018 10:50

They can be loud and you are not supposed to run them when you are out of the house or asleep due to the fire risk. (and having one that tried to go up in smoke I would really advise this). You end up running out of things because you end up with a 2/3rd load in the DW and don't want to run it with not a complete load. And you will end up getting pissed that you are the only one who bothers to load and unload it and if others try to load it it will be wrong so you end up rearranging anyway

still not moved but if it helps Afresh it is still being productive right?

Afreshcuppateaplease · 11/01/2018 11:11

Oh yes most productive

I am productive in decluttering tea bags, milk and sugar
