Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Here is the daily summary for Thursday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 1 this week which is the entrance, front porch and dining room. Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Sorry, just read my jumbled post and can see where my deleted text went to! Perhaps I had better add previewing MN posts to the resolution list. I rarely bother Blush.

previewing is for wimps stressy!

Bowerbird5 · 03/01/2018 20:01

Toostressy 😊 merit for you.

Lost PE kit...have you a lost property bin? Get in early in case it is left on another peg. Can't remember whose son it was. Believe me I have seen kids leave them in weird places.

caglitini is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for photo it really made me smile.
LOL about the bum kick. I do love this thread. It makes me smile 😀😁/laugh on so many occasions.

Ta Das
Load of washing.
Kitchen still clean and tidy, cereals all lined up for breakfast.
Plate out last night. Poured cereal then realised I had no milk aargh!
Spilt gravy in microwave so had to re clean it.
Dusted bedroom. Made bed.

Went to work but not well so came home early. It was our own afternoon so I went as my time off and I did two and a half hours yesterday. Might do some colouring later to make cards.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/01/2018 20:21

It's high school. It's gone. long gone Bower
I was going to head out and run some errands but there has been 4 different lots of emergency sirens in the last 10mins so I am going to make a hot water bottle and settle in with some paperwork tonight instead. bbl with a list.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/01/2018 20:40

Thanks all Smile. Sorry to hear about lost kit Hills.

Stressy the danger with previewing is not hitting post afterwards (I bet you can guess how I know this!).

Nice afternoon wandering around the shops, also been looking at sofas (DH hates ours, he bought them as well!) and almost bought some ex-display sofas. Still would like them, but have realised that the shop advertises them online at one price and tells you to go into the store, yet in store they are higher priced. We'll see what we can do.

Not looking forward to DH and DD going back to school and work tomorrow, going to seem awfully quiet without them!

HettyB · 03/01/2018 21:56

I hope everyone has had a good day.

Here’s my Ta da list:

  1. Set up new pram
  1. Laundry out to dryer and another load in machine
  2. Supermarket shop collected and put away
  3. Bought plastic boxes for storing baby clothes
  4. Posted letters
  5. Banked cheques
  6. Returned an ill-fitting cardigan to shop
  7. Brought baby clothes in from the garage and started to sort them

Tomorrow’s To dos:

  1. Sort out understairs cupboard
  2. 2 or 3 loads of laundry
  3. Strip and wash Moses basket and put away
  4. Make up travel cot in living room
  5. Rearrange LR furniture
  6. Call a company about an accidental triplicate order to make sure they only charge me once!
  7. Declutter bedroom top drawer
  8. Register kitchen appliances and pram for warranties
  9. Buy stamps
10. Finish sorting baby clothes 11. Call my Dad 12. Change DS cot bedding

I know the above list is waaaaay too ambitious, especially since it’s DH’s first day back to work tomorrow so I’ll be flying solo for 14+ hours. If I manage to tick off even one of my to dos then I’ll consider the day a success!

Bowerbird5 · 03/01/2018 22:20

Oh bad luck but at least you had a chance of it being reunited.

Ooh to emergency sirens not sounding good.

Can't find where DD has put the hottie I just know where Eyeore is.

Cagliostro · 03/01/2018 23:39

ta da
✅put another wash on and it’s all dry, still in dryer though as we’ve had company all day
✅got through very social day (being autistic I find this exhausting, more so with baby related tiredness)
✅had a bath and even shaved my legs, go me!
✅deleted about 200 emails (tiny drop in the ocean)
✅helped DSD with an essay briefly, very pleased DH took over though TBH as my brain is so foggy
✅brought baby upstairs earlier than usual, but as you can see I am not asleep FFS, just feel wired

Thank you all for understanding re: babies, and the photo comments :o

Re: New Years resolutions, I have loads, but also none. Basically lots of tiny things I would like to get better at, the obvious ones like decluttering, being more organised etc but I’m trying to break it up into tiny achievable goals. But equally I am very aware that I am at risk of going all out for a few days and then crashing. In a way it’s lucky that baby (aka Slowest Feeder in the Universe) is preventing me doing that. I’m basically trying to just carry on as I have been, gradually building up new habits. I am going to write a list of all my aims and my long term to do list as well but haven’t even got round to that yet.

I find self care really bloody difficult too. In fact I am still grumbling about the fact I really need to buy myself a coat tomorrow. It is ridiculous having my daggy old thing with holes in when I have enough cash for a new one, I just hate clothes shopping for myself. You should’ve seen the state of my old trainers when I finally replaced them 😳😳😳

Right I need to do my teeth and then finally force myself to try and sleep before midnight. I bet baby wakes up as soon as I doze off.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/01/2018 00:00

Tbh i was looking for an excuse to not have to go out Blush

ta da list
half of the banking jobs done
go into work on day off - short staffing issue
rescue washing up from the dungeon
remove curtains ready to layout on the floor for fixing
done a few more bits and bobs of planning
pick up some new school trousers for ds to replace the ones that have been worn out
a few bits and bobs of shopping that were needed

Not the progress I had hoped to make but getting most of the errands out of the way is one thing off my mind. Still need to tackle the boy dungeon tomo, need to play taxi for the mother, rescue the boxes out of the loft for taking decorations down. Still need to finish my room too. might have to wait until friday for my room though Hmm Ah well what happens happens.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/01/2018 05:41

Good luck with the boy dungeon hills
Hoping this morning's school run is a bit smoother here than yesterday's...

Cagliostro · 04/01/2018 06:11

I may actually get decent sleep yay. She was indeed up not long after I went to sleep but then went till 5 and I'm hoping she will finish feeding soon. I will then get up when she does later as have doctors and meeting mum. First club starts back too and it's the one with the long bus ride where I am at a loose end for 90min

DH took tree down yesterday but the Caglets need to do theirs today.

Afreshnewyearplease · 04/01/2018 06:30

Ds up and down 2-4 then up for the day at 6
Dp and i had words again last night and hes gone to work not speaking to me
Full of a cold now but ankle isnt sore anymore

Afreshnewyearplease · 04/01/2018 06:38

cag i hope you find a nice coat! I had wanted one but when i finally got the one i wanted it seemed the entire world did as well so i have returned it as i do not want be a shop with three women in matching coats!

Bowerbird5 · 04/01/2018 06:45

Cags and hills both good lists.
Cags one year I just decided my NY resolution was not to have any! You could perhaps do that or tackle one per month.

Thanks for suggestions for new crafty thread I kinda combined them with my own thought. Not well coughing and low peak flow reading and getting lower so not much will be done.

Ta Das
Fire on.
Dishwasher done and reloaded.
Some knitting accomplished.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2018 08:38

Morning all,

Angry at lost post foxes but sounds like a good list. Good luck coat hunting Cag! Soothing Brew for you and DD2 zoo, also for you Bower. Glad your ankle feels better Afresh. Flowers as never fun to start the day having argued, especially if you are tired as well.

Good luck with boy dungeon Hills! Hetty, that was an amazing ta da list for someone with a toddler and a baby!

Very true about previewing Cotswold Grin.

Big wing flaps to everyone.

Both DDs at childminder and DH and I have an unexpected day off work - too late to cancel childminder really so going to start now and do home bleugh. Then hopefully go out for lunch if we get it done as clearly it takes much longer than an hour.

Catch you all later.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 04/01/2018 09:33

Morning all,
I felt a bit better yesterday and managed to finish all the painting so we can get dining room furniture back in place today. Also started taking down Christmas bits (tree stays till 12th Night but smaller decs, cards etc come doen gradually). Two loads of washing and a short walk into town and that was me done for the day. DCs are off school till next week so we are going out with a group of friends this afternoon. Also homework is on the agenda . Far too much screen time has been had these holidays and it needs to go into reverse now.

Cagliostro · 04/01/2018 09:57

We are starting our ‘term’ on Monday (for newbies, i home ed the Caglets who are 10 and 8 and both autistic). I am itching to get a bit of structure as we had started doing better after having so long where they were resistant to anything (particularly DD as she had been badly bullied especially relating to her academic struggles, but we don’t see that nasty family anymore, so both DD and I have far better self esteem now!). I am nervous about getting back to all their clubs though as it’s a lot of rushing about on buses and usually in the evenings baby is quite stroppy.

First social meet of the year tomorrow though, ice skating at the temporary rink in town with heaps of friends. :)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2018 11:43

Ice skating sounds fab Cag. We also have some homework to do this weekend Wh0Knows Sad.

Well, DH and I have just finished home bleugh. Including cleaning fluff out of tumble drier and cleaning bathrooms (which I know Flylady doesn’t include) it took both of us 2 hour’s each so obviously that is 4 hours total work. I’d say that is the standard time it takes me to clean the house so how on Earths it meant to be an hour?????! I guess no tidying is included in that either.

Just going to empty the hoover then change our sheets then think about lunch.

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 04/01/2018 11:48

What are you focussing on this term Cags? Do you have a topic and work around that? I wish I had removed my DS 3 (Secondary)and home schooled.
As you know I work in a primary and we have several children on the spectrum and have done for twenty years. I can't remember any being bullied that is horrible. We have the attitude that everyone is different and some people are better at some things than others. Work is differentiated and usually a HLTA or TA mainly works with those children but obviously the teacher should also. I completed two certificates in Autism. I'm just interested as I am interested in other types of schooling Montessori & Waldorf/Steiner.
I take my hat off to you with baby as well. I found it hard doing the extra curricular and don't envy you doing it on buses.i learnt to drive between baby 2&3 and now where I live there isn't a bus anywhere except a minibus voluntary service once a week. In once and back once 4 hrs later.
