Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2018 14:55

Afresh Grin

Flyjng, yes, I am hoping I will be more productive if I spend less time on Mumsnet am more well rested! Also 11pm allows for some down time watching rubbish telly which keeps me sane.

I confess - I am usually in bed by 10pm!! I have have always gone up to bed around 10 even before children. Last night I went up just after 9 Blush I did read in bed for a little while though.

Ta das
Took all the decorations off the tree, dh can do the rest!
finished daily routine
checked the recipe for my veg stew I'm making later
picked dd up from nursery
sorted out the parcel ready to post

I just found out about a charity called smalls for all - you can post your "hardly worn" bras and any new pants to them - www.smallsforall.org/ looks quite good. So I'm going to have a sort out of bras later as I have lots in the wrong size that I only wore once or twice if that. I finally got some new ones for Christmas that actually fit me! Someone local to me is doing a collection for them.

Bowerbird5 · 04/01/2018 15:42

Afresh 😬 well sometimes we begin to wonder but never been left with them overnight ...yet. Always, always, always on the last day of term when we finish early😮

Well I've not been well as some know and so stayed in bed and then decided to try and damp dust chest of drawers clutter with jewellery photos etc. so managed this albeit slowly and was catchup/ listening to omnibus of Christmas Archers and carried on and put clothing away, tidied scarfs onto hanger and neatly folded sheets etc at bottom of the bed. Room looks really tidy and ready for vacuum. Only a little bit of washing which is like once worn skirts etc.decided I will wash as then everything ready for Monday. Wheezing slightly better. Going to treat myself to 1/2 hour knitting and film. That is four rooms in the house that look ok. Not to some peoples OCDs standards but acceptable. Just need to keep going and by this time next year, new kitchen, de-cluttered and CHAOS averted ...hopefully.
Small steps!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/01/2018 15:43

ds is going to hate me when he gets back. I am not only tidying but also rearranging. Although I think i have bitten off more than I can chew with that room. Lego has been evicted to dinning room for sorting. Ditto re box of paper work which ds has to go through. laundry removed and yet there is still no floor Shock

Bowerbird5 · 04/01/2018 15:46

Yes Ihave heard of them and there is another that deconstructs them and reconstructs and they go to third world I keep meaning to look up and post some old ones that underwire and lace still good on. Anything not suitable goes for rags and they get paid for. I think Oxfam had a bin at one stage.

Callmecordelia · 04/01/2018 15:53

I'm usually in bed by 10 too often by 9. DH goes to work before 7, sometimes before 6, so we need to.

Ta da
Washed kitchen floor
Cleaned surfaces
Vacuumed most of the house
Dusted half the house
Brushed and turned all cushions on (massive) sofa
Changed DD's bed
One load washing
One load put away
Cleaned bathrooms
All decorations down and away
Sorted party stuff for DD's birthday
Changed DS bedding

It's so much easier doing this stuff when DH is home. Feel like we're a bit straighter now. Just need to finish the Christmas cake and then we're done!

Big wing flaps to everyone.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/01/2018 15:55

Doesn't made a damn difference the time I go to bed, it is the time I fall asleep that is the issue. And compared to you all I am very much a night owl. 1am is about average and often it can be 4am before I fall asleep. When the alarm goes off at 7am (and sometimes earlier) it can make for a very short night sometimes. HmmBlush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2018 16:23

Good to know about sending bras off.

Ta da (bear in mind child free):-
Laundry under control
Tidied airing cupboard
Identified two (yes two!) non-functioning printers for decluttering as it is now accepted they are broken. Going to put them in the garage and one day they will eventually go to the tip.

To do:-
Put away clean laundry
If time declutter bathroom
Decide on DD2 party
Take printers out to garage

I got distracted in my room because I needed to swap 2 pieces of furniture over. I have just been rearranging the furniture in my room and trying to figure out how to get it to work Hmm need to head back into the dungeon BlushHmmBlush

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/01/2018 17:54

..I still avoiding haven't done ours(gulps) my excuse?not sure if my life insurance is up to dateGrin

Tadas

Wiped surfaces

Living room
Retidy last of toys stacks that are homeless
Ended up putting 100fineliners back in colour order in box that D's had tipped by accident cause lil zoo get very cross.talking of cross cat kept past dd2 knocking a few of her pens skew whiff.she went ORBITAL verging hysterical they were no longer in order.i have sat and numbered them all by their kids so she can rest assured should DS king of clumsy knock hers she can reorganise relatively easily back to order((sighs))

Swept living room floor
Tidy behind sofas
Polish
Pick up lil zoo
Snack-tuna and crackers as they were ravenous and lil zoo has been doing inter house sports today

Tea tonight
Fish fingers with peas and carrots.mash

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/01/2018 17:55

Oh and realising damn flea treatments are failing miserably I've sat with a not comb and empty yogurt pot hot water and deflea kittens.obvs feels good as they quickly lay down purring and let me get on with it.wasnt pretty and I think will need doing again frequently til we can hunt down a reasonably priced treatment that works....
It's like having furry kids with nits!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/01/2018 18:06

There is black mould in the dungeon. Ds is NOT going to like the new rules or the fact his room will have a mild stink of bleach when he gets home. Will air best I can tomo but cant risk windows being ripped of hinges so hopefully brisk rather than strong winds tomo. (we still have fairly strong winds today so the storm is taking it sweet old time moving on)

Just do me a favour today and do NOT ask me how much caffeine I have consumed. I suspect it is boardering on medical people raising eyebrows levels. But god I need the motivation. How the hell was it so bad in there when he tidied it middle of dec?

Afreshnewyearplease · 04/01/2018 18:26

Oh dear hills I have blitzed our eldest two dcs bedrooms this week, we only moved in in June but they were so full of crap! And dust. My nose hates dust. Still they are done now. See how long that lasts. I did make them help too.

I have made a small dent in dds room. She is some kind of hoarder aged 4. Honestly half the stuff in there is not hers or even a toy.

Hall is mainly done too, still need check through adult coats and give it a mop. Bought some boxes to go under our storage bench in there in hope of gloves etc no longer resembling jumble sale.

Dc are all fed (yes i did get them from school). Just about to get small 2 ready for bed.

Our tea is in slow cooker. Dp has gone straight to bed i cba so can stay there for all i care.

To do

Finish pots
Sweep up much much sweetcorn
Put bins out
Washer on
Dryer on

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/01/2018 18:27

As an adult I've no idea hills but my D's same.turn back n looks like hurricane blew thru.must be a teen boy thing😒

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/01/2018 18:33

X posts afresh
You've been super productive⭐

I've had many "must I go get them"daysGrin

Is the air clearer with DH?

I been ploughing thru zoolets rooms try declutter but despite in past month removing multiple binbags feels like I'm scratching surface tbh.dp like buying them things and it's built up over a looking time.ds is terrible at decluttering n clings to everything unlike lil zoo that's ruthless
Dd2 dithers and gets overwhelmed but with assistance can get rid of SOME things
I am determined this is my year to claim back some space and have a home not a cluttered shop...they not babies now with loads plastic toys.no major big things like kitchens(lots crates playmobil tho and Lego)
I am going watch bowl of lemons as the declutter for this year starts and poss use some her tips.once I've cleared wood from trees I can contemplate adequate storageSmile

foxessocks · 04/01/2018 19:05

The Christmas decs are all down! Except for the wreath on the door but will do that tomorrow. The room looks really spacious without the tree!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2018 19:26

Oh dear Hills. Hope the bleach sorted it.

Very productive everyone, well done!

Here is the daily summary for Friday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 1 this week which is
the entrance, front porch and dining room.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Ty for the star zoo it is still in bed and im leaving it there

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/01/2018 20:49

I took a spinning break as was getting bogged down with the bogget taming. Just going to head back into the dungeon for another hour or two of surface tidying.

Bleach is a job for tomo morning as there is no chance in hell of being able to air it properly out tonigh. Blind has been washed and looks to have survived the washing (the bonus of having made it myself in the first place.

I am happy with the furniture switch about in my room but it is pushing decluttering the craft room/office way way up the list of things to do. Which is a problem as I want to do all the things extra 24hrs in the day please!
