Order, Order! Do you have a little house of horrors? Welcome to the October Flylady thread where we follow the Flylady method for keeping our houses in order (along with some general chat and support). The monthly focus for October is paper clutter

I'll be posting links to the daily missions, daily focus and the zone cleaning - don't worry about the detailed zone cleaning if you haven't already decluttered, Flylady recommends decluttering first. Join us at any point this month Glitterball

I'll post the first October links tonight!

Put your feet up Ginger

I could totally handle 193 smackers. I totally wouldn't let it change me one bit...Hmm

Cagliostro · 03/10/2017 22:09

ta da
✅phoned doctors to book appts and check on prescription
✅more laundry and tumble drying
✅move melatonin reminder alarm back another ten minutes - DD was asleep by 9!

Nowt else though I am wiped

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/10/2017 22:17

Great news re DD sleep Cag Smile. Loving the Christmas talk Grin. Could totally handle a lottery win too.

Achieved very little today as DH had a slightly unexpected day off so we went out for lunch and then all pottered together this afternoon. So am firmly in naughty corner. Feel guilty but life is for living I suppose. The clutter will be here tomorrow Grin.

Big wing flaps to all and hot lemon for poorly people.

Cagliostro · 03/10/2017 22:25

The best thing was that it meant I got to watch Doctor Foster as it aired 🤗

Fuck though. So tired and ugh. I know it's ridiculous to say so because I am heavily pregnant so of course I'm tired 😂 But I feel like I should be doing stuff

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/10/2017 23:22

Would winning the lottery mean I could get someone else to do the decluttering and cleaning? Because I could live with that...

CotswoldStrife · 03/10/2017 23:56

I am impressed that despite your delirium you can still do maths SC.

Haribo calendar was about a fiver from H&M. It's for DD. I love the idea of a square a day and already have odd balls of wool around for advent. Advent blanket (well, not that big really).

Didn't go to the school talk. It's not a school we like anyway but it is quite close and will almost certainly be undersubscribed for good reasons so possible slight danger of distance allocation if unsuccessful for any others .

Will post the links. Night all. Sleep well!

Only just going to bed at 1am. On the upside my kitchen sink is empty and clean, the dishwasher is on and the bins are all out!

Dm returning tomorrow. Will miss her 😢

Longtime · 04/10/2017 00:02

Ooh paper clutter. I have a lot of that including a bag of shredding. Might get started on that as I have no idea where to start otherwise.

Cagliostro · 04/10/2017 07:53

Shredding is a good place to start! Makes some more space for you to then sort other stuff which I have no idea how to do either

I do not like, and am no longer used to, being out of bed this early Blush off to meet some home ed friends for a birthday breakfast. Have wrapped present and got the Caglets ready. May have a nap when we get home (but need to collect prescription on way) - glad DH is off work today so can do gym run. Didn't make it to tap class last night, thankfully DD was busy playing out with neighbours so wasn't too sad.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/10/2017 08:58

ta da
finish off the prep in the lounge (2hrs worth )
Have an argument with someone
Now off to take mum out for her to run some errands she mentions spain, brexit or anything else politic I will need a vat of chocolate later
The meat part of tea is in the slow cooker.

Not bad for a night owl Grin

Sandycarrots · 04/10/2017 09:40

Well me and the furry are just getting up (having got up the first time to see dd off to school as usual and then gone back to bed). Just testing the waters, but think I feel a bit better. Slightly dreading putting the house back to rights. (Dh has been under strict orders to keep the kitchen clean, but he always leaves a tornado of cables, papers, books, shoes, jackets, and bags in his wake.)

Sandycarrots · 04/10/2017 09:49

To do:
Carry all plates, mugs, glasses from far corners of house down to kitchen
Sort dw
Track down all dirty laundry stowed in suitcases, thrown on backs of chairs, laid out on radiators, hung on backs of doors, stuffed in laundry baskets and carry down to laundry and sort
Seek out ingreds in fridge and cobble together something nutritious and hot for dd lunch (half school day Wednesday).
Strip and change sheets on my sick bed

That'll do for now

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/10/2017 09:51

Hello all, glad you are feeling better SC.

Ta da:-
Morning routine
Written birthday card

Have a day off from regular job so had been going to go into the place I do supply work for (45 mins drive each way) to drop in some paperwork and sort some computer bits. Realised I could actually just phone them so have done that. Spoke to two lovely people and have sorted bits over the phone and so saved at least 90 mins driving time and fuel. I'm counting that as a win Smile. Going to celebrate with a cup of coffee.

To do:-
Must do some decluttering in zone 1
Paper clutter - go through work paperwork
Possibly go into town to get a birthday present but will see how I go - might put that off until next week.

Big wing flaps to all and a belated proper welcome to claire and Pickled.

CotswoldStrife · 04/10/2017 12:59

Afternoon all, been out this morning so no flying.

Shopping done on the way back, this afternoon I need to
make a couple of phone calls (appointment, pay bill),
put away clean laundry,
eat lunch and
exercise again. I'm doing the 30 day shred so the exercise is only 20 minutes but a killer!

Catch you later.

Cagliostro · 04/10/2017 13:03

ta da
✅made it to breakfast then went to library with friends
✅somehow didn't disown DD who was in a foul mood
✅went to collect prescription but useless pharmacy still hasn't ordered item so I'm going to run out FFS

foxessocks · 04/10/2017 13:58

Afternoon!

Ta das
daily routine (except for last bit of laundry as trying not to wake ds up)
DD had flu thing - she was NOT happy about it, I felt sorry for the nurse trying her best to do the whole "let's just play this sniff with your nose game" and dd just said "it's NOT a game it's a flu spray and I don't want it up my nose!" Anyway managed to bribe her with chocolate in the end.
Went to shop for a few bits we needed (why am I always at a bloody shop?!)
swish and swipe upstairs bathroom
decluttered one drawer in porch - all our hats and gloves are paired up now and the ones that don't fit are off to the charity shop
Wiped window frames at the front of our house (not sure they look any better tbh)
Keep looking at stain on sofa and wondering what the hell to do about it. DH tried the stain remover stuff on it last night and I'm sure it has got worse Hmm. I will not be admitting to anyone that pale sofas + small children was a bad idea.

To do
Make vegetable and lentil soup for dinner
Do a pilates DVD (anti procrastination - I have been putting this off for months oops. Off to do it now before I change my mind.

Sandycarrots · 04/10/2017 14:38

Afternoon!

Foxes; sounds as though your dd definitely prefers a bit of straight talking Grin Hope it wasn't too much of an ordeal in the end. [choc emoticon seems to have disappeared or would have posted here.]

You have reminded me that I need to check out glove/hat/scarf segments in our hall chest of drawers and review winter coat situation.

Just came on here really to say that although I love my dh dearly - I really do not love sharing a kitchen with him [anger]. (Hes' not that great in rest of house either tbh Confused). Can't believe that during just two days of me being hors de combat, he has managed to:

-cover a clean t-towel and clean kitchen towel and an oven glove in tea stains and strange sooty smears

  • ditto brand new j-cloth and green scouring pad new out of pkt
  • cover entire stove top in rock salt, olive oil, blobs of pesto sauce, parmesan gratings and bacon fat (and half of kitchen floor)
  • fail to put away washing up that had dried on side of sink (3 water bottles, 2 frying pans, 1 plate) so that they somehow all got covered in tea leaves and sugar and coffee grounds and had to be washed again
  • did not empty dw so left all washing up from 3 x 3 meals Monday and 2 x 3 meals Tuesday stacked up across surfaces of kitchen
  • left croissant crumbs everywhere
  • dripped coffee grounds all over kitchen bin
  • managed to cause chaos in fridge with pkts left open, everything untidy, lids off and strange salmon pink smears everywhere
-and worse of all in my eyes, left bits of broccoli and peas and pasta sitting in plug hole of sink [boak]

Although I am a bit of a slattern in the rest of my house, I really do like a clean kitchen (and bathroom for that matter). I know he is (a) tired (b) constantly under pressure and hurrying but honestly, is it really necessary to cause such chaos? I've dettoxed everything to within an inch of its life and it's all back in order now but it has taken me most of the morning and I am seething.

foxessocks · 04/10/2017 16:16

SC that does sound very frustrating! Not what you need when you're recovering still

CotswoldStrife · 04/10/2017 17:16

So far I have managed to eat lunch (go me) and make the two phone calls with mixed success (paid bill but no appointments left). Still need to put clean laundry away and exercise.
