Order, Order! Do you have a little house of horrors? Welcome to the October Flylady thread where we follow the Flylady method for keeping our houses in order (along with some general chat and support). The monthly focus for October is paper clutter

I'll be posting links to the daily missions, daily focus and the zone cleaning - don't worry about the detailed zone cleaning if you haven't already decluttered, Flylady recommends decluttering first. Join us at any point this month Glitterball

I'll post the first October links tonight!

Hello, typing this with five mins of the day left!

Not as much stashing-and-dashing today but did make hardly noticeable progress so all helpful.

It is a bit of a trying week for me, DD has to take more equipment to school than usual, it's a big-0 wedding anniversary, we are waiting for the 11+ results, have another school visit AND having some work done on the house. I'm not fitting it all in very well Grin I am lucky not to work, I don't know how some people do it.

DD also suspiciously pale tonight - I'm hoping she is just exhausted - and now DH is going down with a bad cold. Meh. I suppose if DD is off tomorrow it gives me one less thing to do and more time at home Grin

Thank you Zoo much needed!

Got involved in a Brexit thread, why oh why, when I know better!

Agree about bug killing Hills Grin (esp slugs - loathe the blighters ) but wouldn't say no to one more sunny w/e!

Longtime · 11/10/2017 11:53

One advantage of an empty nest sc is that there are fewer clothes to wash and fewer dishes to do. I have pretty much caught up with all the bed clothes that needed washing due to visitors/dog weeing on the bed (he has not long started on heart medication and a diuretic, the latter making him drink and wee a lot).

I’m looking forward to the Indian summer weekend. I still haven’t put the heating on so that saves some money.

I decided early on not to post anything Brexit on my Facebook page or get into any arguments about it. That is until a couple of weekends ago when I went to a cousin’s for dinner. Same cousin whose son had a wedding party in France, had visited us here the week before and stated they would like to retire to France, comes over this side of the water at every opportunity, whose wife went to French classes. They are the last people I would have thought would have voted to leave. But they did!

Longtime · 11/10/2017 11:58

Keep forgetting to write any tadas and things to do. I’ll get the hang of it one day!

Tadas

Washing up done
Kitchen tidy
Washing put away
Washing on
Some of the end of quarter books

To do

Vacuum
Sort out small bedroom
Put out washing
More of the books
Prepare small Dutch presentation
Dutch homework

Students start arriving soon for the afternoon so I’m not sure when I am going to do this. Shouldn’t have spent so long faffing on the iPad this morning. Ironic that is anti procrastination day today!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/10/2017 12:25

Tada
Bathroom
Clean bath
Clean toothpaste encrusted sink
Wipe sill.skirt and radiator

Washing sorted into massive piles

Fed kits/scoutcat lunch

Time for mine then i really need to get some major blitzing done.i not sleeping(damn meds) and i exhausted.2-3 hours a night broken sleep.its like newborn phase without a baby to snuggleSad

Sandycarrots · 11/10/2017 13:24

Waves to Longtime yes we are economising atm and trying to keep the central heating off as long as poss too!

Sorry for bringing Brexit on to thread. I think your Facebook strategy is extremely sensible. It is such a horribly divisive subject. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I just get very upset about it and ditto we had to ban it from the list of topics when dh's elderly relative visited recently as she has a tendency to rant Smile.

Looking forward to the days of less clothing and bedlinen to wash ... we have ridiculous amounts currently!

Good luck with Dutch study/students!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/10/2017 13:27

Good on you Zoo!

Sympathies over washing mounds!

goldenclaire · 11/10/2017 13:52

Hey all.

Sandy I hate slugs too.

Longtime No heating on here either. In fact i have the windows open here most days still.

Gosh Zoo you've been busy today Smile

I've deep cleaned the bathrooms today so thats my big task for the day done. I may have gone slightly overboard with the bleach. Used a whole bottle of bleach between the bathroom, ensuite and downstairs loo. Smells like a swimming pool here right now Confused

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/10/2017 14:20

claire any surviving germs have he respect to be there thenGrin

Kitchen
Hob cleaned
Tumble dryer de linted
Surfaced scrubbed and bleached
Cupboard fronts wiped
Yet more washing/drying(still mountains upstairs)
Just discovered brown pawprunts in dd2/on duvet cover(sigh) carbonelle has frequent Cowpat poo due to her goat it attitude and inability to digest too much grain/junk.she has become resident under tabke hoover if not quick enough she woofs down EVERYTHING which is sadly reflected in littertray and in this case on beds she serms get it trsp un her paws so doesnt leavd trail on floors jyst soft surfaces that get between her toes.these incidents only happen in middle of night as she breaks into sleep in girls room......
I suspect i need soak that in napisan and hot wash?

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/10/2017 14:22

In dd2Shock

to do: packing car/driving

Sandycarrots · 11/10/2017 17:46

Goldenclaire I love a bit of bleach as much as the next person but was a bit alarmed when I read this a while back. Have no idea how scientifically sound or not it is though! And would have thought nurses use disinfectant a lot more than once a week!

Sandycarrots · 11/10/2017 17:47

Great lists Zoo sorry about catpat though!

goldenclaire · 11/10/2017 19:33

sandy yes i saw that article doing the rounds on facebook recently. My point of view is you probably inhale and ingest more chlorine at your local swimming pool than when using it to clean the bathroom. Its the people who seem to use zoflora as an air freshner that i think are more at harm as that can't be good for you intentionally inhaling those fumes. I do like bleach to make me feel like i'm properly killing all the nasties when i deep clean the bathrooms though but i do open the windows during and after i've used it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/10/2017 21:33

Our central heating turn itself on to cook today. Tracked the issue to some dead batteries in the thermostat control unit. Was good paint drying temperature though Blush Weather is bleurgh and muggy atm.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/10/2017 21:35

Re the science there is basis to the report but not sure how accurate the reporting and imho someone should do the same study on air freshners. But that would mean upsetting industry with major political influencial power so that will never happen
