Order, Order! Do you have a little house of horrors? Welcome to the October Flylady thread where we follow the Flylady method for keeping our houses in order (along with some general chat and support). The monthly focus for October is paper clutter

I'll be posting links to the daily missions, daily focus and the zone cleaning - don't worry about the detailed zone cleaning if you haven't already decluttered, Flylady recommends decluttering first. Join us at any point this month Glitterball

I'll post the first October links tonight!

Thanks all, sounds similar then. DH will sit as soon as essential jobs of washer and dishwasher are done so about 9 ish, sometimes later. I just can't relax at that time and will be doing other things (laundry putting away etc) but to be honest I am so unproductive I wonder if I should just sit. Can really relate to having the idea that I will get loads done then accepting it won't happen and going to bed Afresh. I bet we all can!

goldenclaire · 09/10/2017 10:47

My husband forgot his work shoes this morning. Its not as silly as it sounds, he cycles to work most days but drove in on friday and returned home in his work clothes. He then forgot to pack his shoes to take back to the office. Of course, i got a text just now saying it was my fault. He's an idiot.

foxessocks · 09/10/2017 11:26

I probably sound quite lazy but I put the kids to bed at 7 and then sit down until I go to bed at 10 ish! I spend an absolutely mad couple of hours around dinner time and after dinner cleaning the kitchen and putting toys away and I'm very lucky in that 1) I work from home and don't do many hours so i have time during the day for bits and pieces and 2) my dh starts work very early which means he is usually home at dinner time and he does bath time so I can madly dash round.

I really value my evenings to just sit for a few hours and watch tv or read I think itsreally important and I think if you can try and squeeze some time in for yourself you must.

We are all feeling quite a bit better today thanks. Luckily our holiday is UK so don't have to rearrange any flights or anything we can just go when we are better. I have had a mad burst of cleaning and have now flopped back on the sofa for a bit!

Ta das
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Dusted downstairs
Cleaned kitchen sides
Deep cleaned both bathrooms
Emptied upstairs bins
Stripped beds

To do
Finish tidying upstairs
Pack for holiday
Sort out all the baby clothes etc I'm taking to my sil
Possibly clean car a bit if we feel up to it

Cagliostro · 09/10/2017 12:06

ta da
✅blanket wash on (although DH actually put it on)
✅towels ready for next wash
✅back to proper hair care routine
✅prepped spellings/maths
✅cry at DH in a(nother) panic about how much there is to do

Cagliostro · 09/10/2017 13:40

Trying to be practical and find out about skip hire etc and getting nowhere really. Just making me sadder and more stressed. Why is nothing simple, ever?!

goldenclaire · 09/10/2017 14:17

You've both been busy Foxes and Cag

Since my last post i have

hoovered all downstairs
put some washing out to dry
put another washing load on
tidied my boy's room (he will wreck it before bedtime again)
made lunch

I need to dig out all my paperwork and find my national insurance card or to proof of my number to effects, and find my birth certificate. I also need to pay my car tax.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/10/2017 14:18

Cag Flowers.

Ta da:-
Bought DH present. Since it was more expensive than I planned it will have to count as wedding anniversary present too so that's another present done.
Got measured for new bras and got a couple plus some new jeans so I now have 2 pairs which actually fit!

Hadn't planned to do this but... had a look at dresses for Xmas. I have a couple of posh nights out and I hate dressing up plus hate, hate, hate dress shopping. Realised that since I was going into town anyway I may as well have a proper look around. Have narrowed down to 3 dresses (as I say I hate shopping for clothes so I am not taking more than a day to try on dresses) so now don't need to go back and can order online after payday. Typically the nicest one is the most expensive Angry.

Also got a complete bargain smartish summer dress that will be ok for weddings etc reduced to £15!

So all in all fairly productive although not to the bank balance.

On bus home now and need to get straight on as soon as I get in.

To do:-
Charge phone
Hide present (it is a guitar so not sure how that will work!)
Get activity stuff for DDs ready
Quick packed tea
Pick up DDs

Done no decluttering but will have to try to do some tonight.

Big wing flaps to all.

foxessocks · 09/10/2017 14:21

Ta das
Mopped kitchen and bathroom
DH has cleared out the car and checked tyres etc
Sorted clothes for SIL
Sorted some stuff for charity shop
Cancelled opticians appointment that was meant to be today
finished tidying upstairs

To do
Get suitcase from loft and pack

foxessocks · 09/10/2017 14:22

toostressy that sounds like a really productive day especially with a good bargain thrown in too!

GingerIvy · 09/10/2017 18:09

SC will it allow you to print off a second copy of the tickets?

Didn't get the vacuuming done, but we ended up taking longer going over Dunkirk today (WW2 unit) than planned and then we were tired and wanted a break. Last thing I wanted to do at that point was lug around a vacuum cleaner.

Sandycarrots · 09/10/2017 19:53

Ooh I don't know GingerIvy I haven't tried - worth investigating though - that's a good idea, thanks!

Goldenclaire sorry, supper party nowt special, just used term to distinguish from dinner party (ie not formal, just close friends, nowt fancy sort of thing). Hope your dh has apologised; I would have thought a grown man's shoes would be their own responsibility and no one else's!

Good luck hiding the guitar Toostressy and ooh to new dresses!

Doesn't sound lazy at all Foxes! You've done loads today! Go steady and don't jeopardise your recovery! Hope your ma is ok too.

Hope you are OK Cag and well done re: list

Cagliostro · 09/10/2017 20:53

✅asked around for man and van recs
✅looked into van hire costs as some friends/family offered to help
✅taekwondo - included walking down which is good but oh boy it's hard carrying this bump 😂

Also ta da
✅cancelled tomorrow's lesson as I have doctors

CotswoldStrife · 09/10/2017 23:36

Awesome achievements here fledglings, putting me to shame!

I'm aiming to do a whole house stash-dash-and-clean over the next couple of days (and going out for one morning) so that is a plan that is over-ambitious to say the least! I will keep you informed ...

Morning all!

Lots to do today as DH is off:
🎯Some laundry to put away (mostly bedding/blankets but some is ours)
🎯Get Caglets to put all their clothes on hangers and move their underwear - in preparation for when we get rid of their beds with built in storage, which is going to have to be very soon!
🎯Break up said storage drawers and put outside with other stuff for the tip (neighbours must really hate us but tough shit it won't be there much longer)
🎯Maths and spellings (we really are just doing the bare minimum ATM)
🎯Sort through all our books and get rid of lots
🎯Possibly get rid of book cupboard but not sure if possible yet - we definitely don't want to take it with us when we move though
🎯DH running sports club late morning and will have to take Caglets with him due to the below:
🎯Doctors appt for me to discuss ADs and a couple of other things
🎯Make sure all dirty laundry is together - bit behind on regular clothes due to doing all the bedding but we aren't getting laundry stuff until tomorrow
🎯Order Tesco delivery for tomorrow with vague healthy meal plan in mind
🎯Tap class (DH taking DD)
🎯Decide what toys can be stored in Ikea bucket that was cleared from decluttered dressing up stuff the other week
🎯Baths all round before bed
🎯Try on swimming costume as we may go tomorrow
🎯Look up train times for tomorrow
🎯Properly sort out the storing of toddler toys/books (find correct lids etc)
🎯Pack some board games away
🎯Continue and preferably finish decluttering/sorting all the random crap in our room - that's probably the most difficult thing on this vast and perilous list as we are left with lots of random crap I don't know what to do with

And now I've written all that I have no idea how we are going to manage it.

I should get up now, get dressed and take my sugars and have breakfast... argh

goldenclaire · 10/10/2017 08:53

Thats a big list Cag

I've just returned from the school run. Nothing productive round the house has been done yet this morning. My boy has wrecked my tidy living room though. It was tidy first thing this morning Angry

GingerIvy · 10/10/2017 09:04

Cag Tired just reading your list!! Yikes!

Dcs up, fed, dressed, medicated, and relaxing for a moment while I get my banking and some paperwork done and laundry started.

Some more paperwork and shredding to take care of today, as well as tidying up. IKEA Kallaxs being delivered later this week, so making sure the spaces they are going are clear and ready to go.

Grocery shop for this weekend done online this morning.

Tired this morning though - would happily go back to bed. Hmm

Cagliostro · 10/10/2017 10:31

Oooh I have Kallax envy! That's what I would like when we move - mostly for board games (we have over 150) as they let the air circulate much better than our current, falling apart cupboard which will be going to the tip before we move. I will probably also get one for books.

ta da
✅kept up with hair care
✅got DH to dig out DD's diagnostic report - need to show the doctor so they'll put melatonin on repeat prescription
✅maths - DH made the questions a little harder so I explained the next step, they did well with it but didn't have time for spellings yet
✅Caglets off to sports club with DH (it's the teen class so they play in the playground instead)
✅replied to some messages

Thinking also I need to make the effort to tighten up the Caglets' morning routine and also finally write down the bedtime one. My parents may well be dealing with that when they come up to stay as I'm having the baby, and frankly my parents don't do routine AT ALL. Growing up was chaos, no predictability or stability, and that has made the very occasional time they've babysat quite awkward really (for example when DH had major surgery on his back and the Caglets weren't even fed and when I got home toddler DS was drawing on the windows while my parents were in the room oblivious...). It's not so worrying now as the Caglets are of course older and for the most part pretty well behaved and independent. But given their needs are also more apparent now, and the fact that DD especially will probably be beside herself with excitement/anxiety about the baby arriving safely, I think it would be wise to at least try and keep things stable for them. They will probably ignore the list even when I explain why it's important but it is worth a try I think.

It's just stuff like putting the day's clothes in the laundry, brushing hair etc but the main thing is they make sure they do DD's melatonin and DS' eczema cream/gloves.

Making sure they get fed is a whole other issue TBH.

GingerIvy · 10/10/2017 10:54

Cag I like that they are easy to put together too! We have them in the dcs' room and my room and the living room (varying sizes). It's nice because the boxes can go in any of them, so are interchangeable.

Cagliostro · 10/10/2017 12:59

Easier to clean I should imagine too, rather than lots of intricate handles and shelf edgings etc to collect dust!

ta da
✅sorted DD's and my prescriptions
✅saw lovely lovely doctor to discuss ADs (agreed now - so close to birth - probably not the best time so she is going to see me regularly instead to continually review)
✅weighed myself - 5lbs lost since I started lower carb 25 days ago!!! Definitely carrying this on (although I won't need to be nearly so strict) after baby arrives

Just had lunch so will be heading upstairs to try and get stuff done.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/10/2017 13:44

Wow Cag, amazing lists. Within routines down for your parent's definitely seems like a good idea.

Also very jealous of the Kallax Envy.

Ta da:-
Picked up prescription
Went for run
Paperwork for work
Laundry sort of under control

To do:-
Planning to potter round the house for 45 mins putting things away - DC also wrecked my living room so may start there
Eat lunch first
School pick up

Cagliostro · 10/10/2017 14:34

Our living room is always wrecked TBH Blush

Ugh I am flagging seriously quickly today!

ta da
✅3 bags of books packed for charity shop
✅Caglets moved all t-shirts into hangers in our room
✅Caglets moved underwear into boxes with their pyjamas
✅annoying cupboard put outside
✅ordered mattress topper for DD
✅a few toys rehomed, packed more neatly etc

Totally lacking further motivation TBH and the bed is covered in random crap
