Order, Order! Do you have a little house of horrors? Welcome to the October Flylady thread where we follow the Flylady method for keeping our houses in order (along with some general chat and support). The monthly focus for October is paper clutter

I'll be posting links to the daily missions, daily focus and the zone cleaning - don't worry about the detailed zone cleaning if you haven't already decluttered, Flylady recommends decluttering first. Join us at any point this month Glitterball

I'll post the first October links tonight!

To clarify, I meant how annoying about the nits Cag, not about your mum helping Blush!

foxessocks · 08/10/2017 17:48

toostressy my mum would probably come if I asked but I don't want her to catch it as she is meant to be coming on holiday with us next week...dh is here but has it too - we've been taking it in turns to nap!

We've got to put the kids to bed soon but neither of us are sure how to move and get going with it! We've not eaten anything so zero energy.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/10/2017 18:03

Sometimes on holiday etc we used to let the kids (in PJs) just watch a movie until they fell asleep. Obviously not great parenting if done every day but could you do this for DD tonight or would she not fall asleep? Means a relatively easy bedtime for her and you could then take it in turns to tag team DS?

I know what you mean about making others ill. I had strep throat years ago and was too unwell to look after the kids (young at the time, can't remember now if I had even had DD2). DH took some time off work and both sets of parents came up (in turn) to help when he had to go back to work. I made all 4 parents ill Blush.

Cagliostro · 08/10/2017 18:04

😂 don't worry stressy I realised that!

DD has been miserable stuck indoors but we made jelly (I drank a bit unset and it really soothed my throat - that was an MN tip, it really works!) and we are watching yet more DVDs. Will wash hair after strictly.

foxessocks · 08/10/2017 19:12

toostressy Dd did actually fall asleep in front of the tv bless her so we moved her into her bed. Ds had to cry himself to sleep in his cot because neither of could do the usual rocking and singing routine but actually he only cried for 10 minutes so might be the way forward haha! I fear I may have already passed it to my mum anyway as I saw her Friday...I'm just keeping everything crossed that she and my Ds don't get it then we might be able.to salvage some of the holiday !

foxessocks · 08/10/2017 19:14

Managed to get the dishwasher on and toys tidied and one load of washing on. Got so much deep cleaning to attempt to do tomorrow!

GingerIvy · 08/10/2017 22:23

SC yes, I get a real odd happiness in sorting out the bookcases. And it's all done. Plus I found that pesky missing library book! hooray!!

Oncewaswho · 08/10/2017 23:08

I'm sorry, I haven't kept up with the thread yet again. Overwhelmed with work, admin and DD's homework (yr 7).

But I did take 5 bin bags of stuff to the charity shop on Friday and have filled two more today Grin. Including a carrier bag of Christmas decs that I bagged up in Jan, popped in the loft and put a reminder for on my calendar for this month.

CotswoldStrife · 09/10/2017 00:07

foxes it is horrendous trying to look after small children when sick yourself. Really not fun at all. I hope you all feel better soon.

I am stunned with 5 bags to the chazza Once, fab decluttering there!

I loathe nits Cag - DD has only had them once luckily. I used the Hedrin Once which only takes a few minutes to work but is very gloopy (it's silicone and smothers the little blighters) and difficult to get out. Does work though. Handy hint - if you have long hair yourself tie it back before combing through your children's hair voice of experience We still check, if the school ever mention nits I start scratching my head straight away. Can't bear them!

Waves to Stressy, Ginger and SC.

Good morning lovelies!

Thanks for links Cotswold!

I hope you had a lovely celebratory day yesterday Zoo and congratulations again on your Confirmation Flowers

Hope your night was not too horrendous Foxes and that you and your dh are feeling a bit better today!

Oncewaswho five carrier bags to charity shop is impressive (hoping to follow your example over the coming month!).

Ginger glad you found the book! I have theatre tickets for 21st (the ones you print off yourself) - put them in a "safe place" - and now I can't find them anyway!

Toostressy same here about birthday run during Oct/Nov. Mine segues nicely in to Christmas parcel territory too! It's rather a £££ time from now on in the present department! DD hasn't joined a running club but she and three friends have created one! (She was so disappointed in failing the first fitness test of the term in PE (she usually gets good marks in sport) that she wanted to improve things! She runs with dh and me when we walk the dog too. Good luck with the freelance work!

Go easy today Cag! Exciting about the bag packing!

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Appropriate we are in the kitchen zone this morning because I have a supper party for 6 to clear up now once I've done dd's packed lunch Blush Bit of a challenge to get back and start cooking last night - a bit too much of a rush really (as was entire weekend) - but had a lovely time in the end!

Then back to list of doom ... .

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Sandycarrots · 09/10/2017 05:53

Ginger anywhere not anyway!

Afreshstartplease · 09/10/2017 06:37

I dont even know where the weekend went!

I still have half the pots from sunday dinner to wash and i havent ironed any uniforms at all

Shock where did the weekend go

goldenclaire · 09/10/2017 08:15

Morning. We've been away all weekend so i feel today is gonna be a catch up day with the housework here. I've so far showerd, fed my boy, and washed the breakfast dishes. Need to get him changed now.

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/10/2017 08:46

I was supposed to be out running errands but I have burnt out. Pain killers, hot water bottles and a day in bed with as much sleep as possible is required. Hmm

Cagliostro · 09/10/2017 08:54

Same here. Cold doesn't seem to have developed thank goodness but I have still got the post viral flare up Hmm

The extra work yesterday due to nit-killing did me in (more washing making beds washing hair etc) - couldn't even wash my own hair and had to wait for DH to do it for me when he got home at 11. Felt so pathetic Blush

Then had another weird turn last night (will mention to GP tomorrow) so feeling quite sorry for myself all in all. Thank goodness no plans for today apart from taekwondo, which I really do need to take DS to as we had to miss last week and will probably miss next week too due to my hospital appts (Monday clinic always overruns like crazy - and yet other days are virtually empty, go figure Hmm).

Can't imagine getting anything else done at all TBH.

Afreshstartplease · 09/10/2017 09:13

I am slightly envious of your impending baby stress cag How crazy is that. I have enough chaos going on here already!

Ta da

Washer on
Me and 4 dc up fed dressed and out for 840
3 uniforms ironed
2 packed lunches made
Practised sounds with dd
Cleaned up breakfast
Refilled steriliser
Put out charity bag
Emptied kitchen bins
Sorted recycling
Emptied dp bag of crap from work last week
Washer on almost finished

Afreshstartplease · 09/10/2017 09:13

Bah i put the washed on twice on my list.

Afreshstartplease · 09/10/2017 09:13

WASHER

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/10/2017 09:24

Morning everyone Smile.

foxes, please don't attempt too much cleaning today if you still feel lousy Flowers. Here is some soothing Brew for Cag and Einstein. Eek, SC, must remember to tie /clip my hair back then the next time I have the misfortune of nit combing. That is even more impressive if DD has created her own club Smile. Yes, realistically it is presents from now until Xmas so I just lump them all together.

Oncewaswho, I am super impressed by your Xmas decs reminder.

Ta da:-
Morning routine
Girls at school

To do:-
Am on the way into town, need to get DH a birthday present - such a novelty to do it without children. Going to try to do a few other bits too as aiming to leave tomorrow free to sort out work admin - had a lot to do.

Laundry

Later
Gymnastics with both girls tonight.

What time do you all sit down at night (if at all?!). I went through a phase of often ploughing on until midnight or so admittedly in front of telly or some rubbish to watch on my phone. House looked loads better and got lots done but feel I should probably be sitting down at some point (to see DH if nothing else). But then house is trashed?!

Afreshstartplease · 09/10/2017 09:39

I generally sit down 8-10pm then try and do everything before bed. Then realise i cant and go to bed

Cagliostro · 09/10/2017 09:50

It really varies with me depending how I'm feeling (even before pregnancy). But the melatonin is making a huge difference because now I don't have to spend all evening (until 11 at the earliest) coaxing an anxious DD to stay in bed and sleep. So suddenly I have extra time. One day hopefully I will be able to make the most of it but at the moment frequently I am dozing off on the couch before DH gets home (around 11ish).

Sandycarrots · 09/10/2017 09:57

Hardly comparable with only one child/easier work load than most on here but I only sit down once absolutely everything is done (that is going to get done that night anyway) because I find it very hard to get up again Grin. Usually between 8.30pm/9.30pm/10pm. (Have the advantage that UK tv is on an hour later here.) Trying to instigate earlier dinner despite dh getting home late, because healthier all round I think, and leaves more time to do stuff afterwards.

Enjoy your child-free shopping Toostressy!

Great list Afreshstart Weekend did go fast, in fact, this entire period between Sept-Christmas goes like a flash I find and speeds up year to year as you get older!

[Distributes more fluffy throws and pillows to Cag and Hills.]

I'm with you re: post weekend catch up Goldenclaire!

3/4 way through supper party clear up.... keep being interrupted by phone calls from friends thank heavens.

goldenclaire · 09/10/2017 10:12
