Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2017 18:04

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Nah holidays are not holidays because ds is aspie and he doesn't do new and different Grin Holiday = meltdown city Sad

Bad night's sleep last night. Half of me wants to make the 1 1/2hr drive to my favourite fabric shop. The other half wants the whole world to fuck off so I can sleep some more. But I am going to go with the mid point and the fun job of getting rid of too small socks from ds' sock drawer... I know how to have fun don't I HmmGrin
The flip side is that I will just shoot up to the local john lewis for some ball point needles for the sewing machine. This is a simple job that has not hit high priority and should have done. And local vs favourite will save me money Blush because you can't just drive 1 1/2 to get to a shop and only buy needles...

mermaidsandunicorns · 06/08/2017 12:49

Forgot my landlord was popping round to collect the leftover carpet from when the stairs were done. I was just about to go in the shower so was very awkward and apologetic 🙈🙈

Basic flying today merlets are calm so justo having a calm Sunday

foxessocks · 06/08/2017 14:11

Morning all! Ds slept all through the night last night - I think only because he was so tired out from our little holiday! It was nice to get away but I agree that holidays are pretty much just the same parenting somewhere else and DD was pretty whiny on the first day because she'd stayed up far too late on the first night. But all in all it was good fun!

Ta das
Deep clean bathroom
Polish table and chairs
Started on a big declutter and tidy of dd bedroom
Some daily routine stuff done but not all
Second load of washing on
Went and got dd a new swimming costume which she needs for tomorrow also got a birthday present for a friend
Some unpacking done
Hoovered upstairs

Dh has done quite a bit of this so I can't take all the glory but it's nice to have got some proper cleaning and sorting done as feels like the house has been getting messier and messier recently.

To do
Finish dd bedroom
Make fish pie for dinner

foxessocks · 06/08/2017 14:11

Oops... afternoon all I mean Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/08/2017 16:36

Hello all, still in constant laundry zone here.

Ta da:-
Both DDs got school shoes. It's a bit early but a shop had a back to school event - school shoes normally not stocked there but trained fitters came to the shop - where they can take the shoes back nearer to the end of the holidays and exchange of the wrong size. So easy peasy and DD1's trainers still fit so that is her back to school shoes done.

To do:-
Tea etc
Go through kids' shoes tonight as DD2 has grown out of loads of hers so need to make a list of what we need. Sad at the thought of replacing all dance shoes!

Toostressy shoes are one of the most expensive parts of having children I think!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/08/2017 18:43

foxes school blazers for growing teen has far outstripped cost of shoes. And I say that as a parent who has had to buy 3 pairs of school shoes per year because of football on the playground. Hmm

foxessocks · 06/08/2017 18:49

Greymalkin · 06/08/2017 19:41

Hi all,

Welcome Aztec, do join in with all the chat

Foxes you have been productive Star

Einstein I also have a favourite sewing and haberdashery shop that is a bit of a drive but so worth it and it is absolutely impossible to exercise any form of restraint once I get in there.....

We had a family trip out to Hampton Court Palace today and it was wonderful, even if DS got a bit whingy at times - it was a looooong day.

House is a pit, but I don't care. Meh.

Cagliostro · 06/08/2017 19:42

Sympathies, dance shoes especially can be £££! Luckily my dad got DD her ballroom shoes (45ish) for her birthday for the last two years (he used to do ballroom himself so it makes him happy to do this!) but I really don't think this pair will last a full year. As it is between the last two pairs she went up two sizes Blush no wonder they felt tight towards the end!

Just relieved we don't need to worry about school uniform at the moment. Dread that if they end up at secondary.

Towels in dryer and I'll put another wash on at bedtime. Getting there with the one load a day thing but I'll need to instruct DH on this, he will probably roll his eyes :o but he's the type to put some on whenever it needs doing which is good and practical obviously but I actually think it will be more beneficial to me (as the one who is home most) to be strictly one clothes wash per day, so it is consistent and the Caglets have a set amount to put away etc. Towels/bedding will have to be extra loads in the day though I think but that's just when needed.

I'm really thinking about a whole new set of routines (that makes it sound like we already have some - we don't) when we move. It will be so important to start as we mean to go on!

I have had a really lazy day, yesterday was tiring (we went out for the day, long journey too) and I was in one of those bored and restless moods but too knackered to do anything! But I did manage to just cook dinner which used various things up (we all had different things) and included a big pot of lentil soup which I'll bag up for the freezer.

Cagliostro · 06/08/2017 19:43

Ooh forgot to welcome aztec sorry, hello! :)

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/08/2017 19:53

AztecHero · 06/08/2017 20:21

I am glad to have found this thread. My home is in a terrible state thanks to a husband who is a bit of a hoarder. Clutter makes me anxious!

Cagliostro · 07/08/2017 12:03

Clutter really does add to anxiety doesn't it? Literally like the walls are closing in.

Thanks stressy it is really sweet :) it's actually how my parents met, at dancing. Turns out it's also how my paternal grandparents met! Funny how these things go. It's slightly bittersweet as my nan would've been so thrilled to see DD dance if she were alive (she adored DD but died a couple of years before she started lessons). I always imagine her watching the class :)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/08/2017 15:37
