Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2017 18:04

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Morning all. Had quite a productive day yesterday in that laundry was totally sorted and I managed to do dinner, we did lots of home ed stuff, Caglets had fun etc. But it went really sour in the evening as DD especially was just not behaving well at all. She was then anxious again at bedtime and I just couldn't handle it at all after being shouty with her, so I wasn't as supportive as I should have been. Even DS got upset. Also was chatting to friends about it and one (whose child has no SN) made light of it and I know she absolutely didn't mean to, but it just made me feel 10 times worse TBH. I'm exhausted!

Day out today though as DH is off and we got one of the pizza express vouchers from the MN product test. So that should be good.

Hope you all have a good productive day! Thanks

AztecHero · 05/08/2017 08:49

We are home from holiday joe and have functioning broadband again Smile.

Ta da:-
One load of laundry on line
Another load in washing machine
Online food shop arrived and put away

To do:-
Deal with the unpacking
Another 1001 loads of laundry
Amuse DDs - have promised soft play and library so hopefully DH can tidy house while I do that - there are clothes everywhere Shock.

Big wing flaps to all

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 10:27

Back from holiday today I meant. I don't know who joe is Grin.

OP posts:
Afreshstartplease · 05/08/2017 10:29

Welcome aztec

I've never been any good at maintaining shiny sink. My sink is usually yuck.

Ta Da

Washer on
Dryer on
Dry washing away
Pets cleaned out
Kitchen bin empty

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 05/08/2017 11:37

It is all crazy here. decluttering. more fucking building work, ds who seems to have developed an allergy to clothes Hmm, soft fruit that needs processing and de-maggoting before being turned into crumble, errands to run.

Seriously people I thought summers for relaxing and chilling out, not major projects of crazy... who am I kidding I am a grown up now and we all know that grownups don't get proper breaks at summer Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 11:40

Einstein, my DDs are totally on bored with the relaxing and chilling out in summer. Unfortunately their definition of this hugely differs from mine Grin.

OP posts:
Afreshstartplease · 05/08/2017 12:20

I'm drowning in crazy too Einstein

Still not unpacked all the boxes

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 14:55

Think it takes most people years months to truly unpack Afresh.

Ta da:-
Library books returned but came back with more clutter as DD did summer reading challenge so has certificate, medal and booklet. The clutter is constant!

More laundry
DH has run Hoover round and has a plan for making tea later
Got cat food
Have taken DDs out to soft play so DH can do a bit of unpacking

To do:-
Buy coffee and inevitably end up getting DDs a treat at soft play
Tea which DD1 will not want to eat
Calendar check
Amazon order

I have been helping my parents declutter the loft. We found boxes that they haven't seen since they moved house in the 80s....

I was supposed to be fixing a chest of drawers today, but building work else where means I need to sort something else out 2 people 1 space different needs issue . I have no motivation for sorting anything else out HmmBlush

ta da
convince ds to get out of his onsie and into clothes major achievement

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/08/2017 17:51

I did first load washing in days as pants are at critical levels!
Almist finished school unifirm shopping.dp has announced taking zoolets away for his 50th birthfay weekend knowing full well i cant leave kittens....
Did couple major food shops(ambient/freezer)as dp was lurking .seem be spend my life buy bread milk etc

Fed up and in need both motivation and routune as both mine have jumped ship

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 05/08/2017 18:03

zoo if dp is taking the zoolets away that will give you a break. Which you can use to pamper yourself if needed or declutter if you feel like it. I know it is not the same as going away but ime going away with kids is same shit different location. Although if you are not used to being away from zoolets it will be hard. Personally I am at my most productive when ds is away as I don't have to be on call and can immerse myself in the kinds of jobs that will take most of the day and are hard to take breaks from. eg sorting the big mountain of random paper which is best sorted into piles of stuff and then filed from there which would be a disaster with a child shuffling through and amongst. don't as me how i know

I am not even considering school uniform shopping until the last week of the holidays. Ds appears to be having an unseasonally early growth spurt Hmm bet the toad also then grows when he would normally

ta da
write shopping list
write to do list for ds
pull a face at ds when he laughed and said nope to the to do list remind why i bother

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/08/2017 18:45

einstein i find it very hard.he took them away 2yr back n i was beside myself by day 2(saddo) dare i actually admit missed bickering/noise of a housefuloi might do combo decluttering and pamper.i hit front room and bedrooms last time.2hours home bedrooms buried under sea dirty washing theyd dump and alk cuddly toys from fairs and mementos from gift shops graced front room for days as i try locate homes everything....he thinks parenting isabout material things(sigh) banged head against that brick wall enough times i could have permanent concussion

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/08/2017 18:47

Ps that was first time id been away from lil zoo ever(she was 7)and first time theyd all been away from me overnight together.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 19:06

Resorted to offering money for chores today and DD1 actually did some tidying for 20p Grin. She had initially tried to bargain for £2! I showed her the Flylady website and the Flykids challenge - she was less than impressed Hmm.

zoo, I can imagine that would be difficult if you struggle away from the DC. I think if you can view it as an opportunity to declutter / rest as Einstein suggests then that might be the way forward. Very impressed you have almost done school uniform Star.

Einstein, having just done a week self catering I certainly agree that holidays with kids are same shit, different location. I say this every time but I am not doing self catering for more than a weekend again
If it can be avoided.

Hope you've had an ok day Afresh. Hope this all makes sense Aztec and great to have you with us Smile.

Tomorrow I am going to take DD2 shoe shopping (probably with DD1). Had meant to put it off for longer so nearer to start of term but her trainers definitely seem too small so I need to at least get her feet checked and probably some more trainers.

Ta da:-
Girls in PJs
Few more loads of laundry done
Very small token amount of decluttering done by DDs
We are currently snuggled watching Beauty and the Beast
Tea eaten
Some more unpacking done
Ordered a 2018 diary
Got an email for some potential extra shifts so have replied to that

To do:-
Bedtime
Decluttering
Put away some laundry
Calendar check

Big wing flaps to all Smile

Hi all!

I managed to antiprocrastinate today (it's not Wednesday oops) - got some passport photos done finally, so I can get my bus pass sorted

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 19:17

Woo hoo, brilliant Cag.

Hello everyone sorry for going AWOL! We went on a last minute camping trip and I lost the thread as well!! Back to reality now and the house is a TIP.

mermaidsandunicorns · 05/08/2017 19:31

Is it time for them to go back to school yet arrrgh

Washing line fixed today by lovely handyman will use him again
Washing done
Dishwasher loaded and washed
Washing hung out
Merlets driving me bloody crazy so took them to park which helped
Weeded garden a bit
Swept path
Pruned roses

Ended up telling ds1 and his mate off for dicking around with my letterbox which ended up with a mouthful of attitude from ds1 so he's been sent to bed

Ugh

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 20:09

I can also sympathise with the post holiday mess foxes. We got back yesterday so not quite so bad but washing machine has been on all day and just down to check on laundry again now.

mermaids, not yet no Grin. However, I am sadly excited that it is now August and therefore only one more month to go Smile.

Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

Baby-step no 6 - put out your hot spot (a hot spot is any place where clutter always builds up). I spend my life trying to put out hot spots!

It's the weekend, so no missions or zone work required. However, if you want to...

We are in Zone 1 this week: the entrance, front porch and dining room

Spend 15 mins decluttering in Zone 1.

foxes unfortunately due to ds' allergies we can only ever do self catering.

Grin mermaids only 4 weeks left of summer...

yay cag Grin sod the fat fairy's prescribed days, today was a good anti-procrastination day Grin

ds seems to think he will be going to bed at midnight. Hmm Sod that nonsense he can do the lights off routine. Wink let's see who wins this round of the bedtime argument

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/08/2017 23:51

Einstein, ok, can completely see why holidays are not holidays then if you are tied to self catering.

OP posts:
AztecHero · 06/08/2017 09:49

I have done;

-1load washing including dog beds
