Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Morning all....

washing machine has not stopped lately, but I think I see a bottom to the basket.....

Am ai allowed to include as a Ta Da the fact that I had booked a one-off blitz of the garden with a local company? They came today and weeded, mowed the lawn etc and I am so excited! I can't afford regularly, but possibly a blitz again next month.

I love it when chores are done and I did nothing except organise it!!

Hope everyone is fine today.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 09/08/2017 16:24

yes you are. delegation of chores is allowed and encouraged Grin

AztecHero · 09/08/2017 18:16

I like it!

I keep going out the patio door and just looking at it.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/08/2017 19:38

Aztec, I agree with Einstein. Absolutely, that sounds like a great ta da Smile Star. Also woo hoo on laundry basket. Hello Afresh, how did you get on with your hours at work in the end? Think I remember you saying you got it agreed to drop down (hope that's true, sorry if not!).

Girls just going to sleep now so must get on.

Holiday was mostly fabulous, there were a few grim parts that we pressed on through (and one that may require the small claims system for a refund but hey ho!). Still struggling with the laundry!

Have been quite good about keeping the kitchen tidy except for tonight Blush Always tomorrow morning though.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/08/2017 00:32

Oh I forgot wash down the kitchen cupboard doors and mopped the floor from the list Shock clearly I have been taking the non flying approach of crash and burn

AztecHero · 10/08/2017 05:29

Gosh Einstein!

That is along list.

I'm making banana bread this morning. No-one in my house eats it though.

Took DS to the dentist yesterday. It was pretty grim, a couple of holes and a big telling off for letting him drink juices. It was a new dentist an she seemed unconvinced when I said he does not drink juice. (He's ASD and has loads of food issues and only drinks water... anything else he gags). He has had alot of Mr Whippy ice cream though lately over this summer. I am telling myself that at least we know now and have a dental strategy so am trying not to feel too despondent. He's got loads of issues re gagging but I have bought some children's enamel strengthening mouthwash and plan to use a little craft paintbrush to paint his teeth with it once or twice a day (as well as brushing) in the hope that this helps (and maybe might deal with some of the gagging too?)

I am still decluttering the kitchen.

Hope everyone has a good day.

foxessocks · 10/08/2017 16:16

Einstein I did a crash and burn type thing at the weekend , sometimes you just have to I think! haven't done anything since

Aztec sorry about your dentist experience but you're right that it all sounds solvable. I had to go to the dentist too yesterday, bleugh.

I've had a totally manic few days, we've been here there and everywhere, I got soaked to my skin yesterday and I've had two whiny children today. Needless to say I've acheived very little flying wise , no missions done so far. Would like to get fridge sorted today and check what the mission is for today at least.

Dinner is in the slow cooker (beef curry) so just got to do the rice and naans.

Cup of tea first though...this is why I never get anything acheived because once I make the tea I sit down and don't get up !

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/08/2017 16:47

I am trying to get the nerve to face tackling the craft/office space. I suspect it is going to need more coffee Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/08/2017 19:43

Hi everyone, had a busy day at work and just doing DDs' bedtime. Tonight I have to pack and get everything ready to take DDs' to my parents tomorrow. Long drive which I am dreading especially as I already have my parents stressing about the journey and traffic etc.

I did a load of digital decluttering last night as needed to clear some space on the girls' tablets as I am hoping to figure out how to use them offline in the car tomorrow. So that is tonight's challenge.

DD1 has also managed to leave her lunch bag and water bottle at kids club just before I go away for 5 days so unable to pick it up Hmm.

foxes, your dinner sounds fab. Ours is also curry but an intentional ready meal as I knew we would all be busy tonight.

Einstein, hope coffee helped with the craft room. That sounds very stressful about the dentist Aztec Flowers. Glad you have a plan in place. Glad you had a good holiday Cotswold. Big wing flaps to all. Back on later with links.

Ugh dentists. I need to get the courage to see one. Ugh.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/08/2017 21:14

Haven't got into the craft room yet Blush I am still trying to convince ds that his room needs to be tidied. Hmm
unfortunately I still need to because until i do i don't have a bed to sleep on Hmm

CotswoldStrife · 10/08/2017 21:22

Aztec might just be weak enamel rather than anything that is being done/not done. DD has inherited my tiny mouth overstuffed with teeth and is already on the year long list for an orthodontist. I have to get a scale and polish every few months because of build-up and the hygienist I see privately has just left - I'll need to find another one!

Not much progress today but I have cleaned the kitchen and made very slight progress during the whole week in the main room. I haven't had a cup of coffee today and have tried to cut down on caffeine a bit this week. I think this may be linked to the lack of progress Hmm Out tomorrow at a place that sells strong coffee so let's see shall we ....

foxessocks · 10/08/2017 21:37

cag go to the dentist while you have it free ! My ds is 1 soon so I'll have to pay again soon.

Cotswold I had to see the hygienist for a scale and polish and have been told to come back again in 3 months
...it wasn't particularly pleasant although didn't hurt like I thought it would. I'm a bit fed up that I've got to do it all again though!

The beef curry was delicious, really pleased with how it turned out in the slow cooker. DD turned her nose up at first (typical 3 yo fussiness!) but when she actually are some of the beef I could see she did actually like it and then she ate it all! Ds just ate the vegetable pakoras ...

I didn't get round to doing the fridge or anything else kitchen wise. Did do a bit of ironing though.

Also, and sorry for mentioning the "c" word but I have just bought my first Christmas present ShockShock

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/08/2017 22:26

Yes Aztec, as Cotswold says perhaps it is weak enamel- worth asking dentist about maybe? foxes, woohoo for C present although I don't think we are allowed to talk about that on here I love Christmas and start planning in September

Yes, Cag, presume it will be easier to get to the dentists before you have Cagletini so might be worth booking in.

Am in naughty corner. So tired after work so have done nothing except standard evening routine. No packing. No tidying or decluttering. Going to go to bed and get up early instead.

Considering I have nearly finished my christmas shopping (just stockings, ds' and the nephews left), and done virtually all of the Christmas making. i shall forgive you. Wink
foxes have you found the holiday's control journal on the fly lady site? It is good for helping to focus the mind and keep track of what you have got done/need to sort.

I am finding that perhaps I should try to get ds to tidy his room more often. it always leaves me Angry and I am rather productive when angry Hmm Well that and I have a treat for me in September and I have told myself I won't be allowed it if I don't tackle all of the jobs that I have been ignoring for months years Don't be surprised if I am uber productive equally if I hit CBA and do fuck all for a while I still owe a christmas present from last year and I had forgotten it off my crafting list and the recipent just tackfully asked about it Blush

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/08/2017 22:27

ta da
2 loads of washing
1 load hand washing
all the folding -except socks
the ironing mountain
try to tackle ds' room Hmm
portion up and freeze yesterday's batch cooking
try to put up a shelf in ds' room and get thwarted by beams and electrical cables Hmm
empty car out
attach another piece on the long journey of mending the thing - other piece was positioned perfectly thank fuck
washing up
discover it is not a cable issue but a computer port issue that is causing my internet issues ffs!
wash out a the drawers of a storage unit and leave to dry
deal with a coffee table hot spot by accidentally chucking coffee over it and having a minor meltdown as it is a 'nice' wood table Hmm
Discover I am shit when it comes to ikea shopping and 'never' seem to remember everything - i don't generally come out with things I didn't need but there is always something that was forgotten Make list for when next in that area.
sort and get stuff taken to the charity shop
make cake - yeah I know but I am stocking the freezer ready for september and the muuuuuum I am hungry. There is biscuit dough to make for freezing yet.
Hoover stairs
pull some units out in ds' room and return to him his clutter Hmm before hoovering
reorganise the landing cupboards
make bread for freezer
Go to buy batteries but come back with everything BUT batteries Hmm
Dishwasher is running

There is probably other stuff but too tired to even sort the stuff into the craft room so there is a dangerously balance pile of boxes in my room that I am just hoping won't fall in the night.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/08/2017 23:08

holiday stuff

Afreshstartplease · 11/08/2017 07:02

I fucking love Christmas ! 🎄🎉🎀

Only one present bought so far due to house move! Also have a holiday to pay for and ds 1st birthday before then. I feel money just leaking everywhere.

How much do people normally budget for a self catering holiday? Dp and I have way different ideas.
