Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Hi, If this is some sort of housework motivation/chit chat thread can I join please?

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 14:24

Poor DD2 :( mine is ill too which is rare, she is dozing on floor cushions having finally managed about a third of a slice of toast. She makes it worse though TBH because whenever she feels ill she gets so panicky about being sick that she won't eat! Missing all our clubs today, quiet day in and I've achieved nothing.

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 14:26

Welcome jodie that's exactly what it is! We have Flylady links to follow as much as we can/like, but lots of general cosy chit chat and support :)

jodiemumtodavid · 06/07/2017 14:27

Ah good Smile I do have my own cleaning routine but i do go off track sometimes, normally when the sun is out like today, yesterday and most of the week Blush

CrackersDontMatter · 06/07/2017 14:55

I am such a child. Flylady app gives you awards for doing stuff. Who knew that all I needed was a star chart 😂.

Sanscollier · 06/07/2017 15:12

Hello all! How amazing that we have at least a trio of tap-dancers on the thread! Grin

[Snaffles one of PurpleDaisies banana muffins] Grrrr about uncooperative post office lady; particularly frustrating when a knitting project is done and dusted and you want to send it off!

Firmly in holiday mode here and the house is showing it rather! DD and I (apart from two dog walks) didn't even leave the house yesterday but had a duvet day without the duvet. About 14 games of Strip Jack Naked, Battle Ships, and Monopoly were played. We also watched a pretty dreadful film about a girl and a horse on Netflix together Grin. And dd wrote a story plan for her latest novel! Then in the evening we had pizzas and I had two glasses of Wine which is a record for me nowadays!. No Flying but it was nice to have a break and I think the colour is starting to come back to dd's cheeks!

I have been working today so have only done the usual minimal routines, save for prepping the famous Rachell Allen green soup + veggie burgers at crack of sparrows for supper tonight. Must get back to it tomorrow .... .

Zoo your poor dd2 - that earache sounds awful - hope she feels better soon. Well done re: recipes and good luck in the under stairs cupboard of doom! Oh and thanks for the gentle prod yesterday - I am holding it over until tomorrow if I may Smile Arf at drunks in the fridge too Grin

A warm welcome to Crackers! Do you mind explaining (in Noddy language please as I am a numpty about these things) how the app syncs with your calendar? Ta very muchly! And maybe (if relevant) what device you use!

Rosa great to hear the little and often system bearing fruit in your garden! As for dd and things on her bedroom floor - it probably isn't very helpful for me to say that I don't have a leg to stand on - because there are too many things on our boudoir floor!! Blush Blush so unless I up my own game, things will never improve Blush In fairness, the bedroom in which dh and I sleep is fairly pristine as it has nothing in it except a bed. The problem is the room next to the only bathroom which gets used as a dressing room/dumping ground every morning and evening.

Hope your dd is ok Cag and congratulations on Cagletini scan! Smile Lovely to hear all well!

Whoknows not a parenting fail at all about dc tidying up after themselves. You have always been ahead of the pack when it comes to dc doing chores which is more than dd does currently.

It sounds like you have a difficult line to walk there Toostressy with your parents in terms of them helpful without controlling too much. I hope it will get easier for you all as time goes on.

Bluepheasant gosh a 12 hr day when you are feeling ill sounds really tough! Take it steady (as far as humanly poss!) Hope your dh feels better soon too.

Too true Einstein about people's different interpretations of what constitutes a mess!

Foxes hope you are ok!

And that you are recovering Grey!

Waves to Longtime¨Afreshstart Honu Cotswold Shannara Mermaids Mercury and any one else I have inadvertently missed!

Sanscollier · 06/07/2017 15:15

x posts!

A warm welcome to jodiemumtodavid too!

Hope you can tempt your dd to eat a bit later Cag (my dd gets like that too sometimes ie quite fearful of anything outside of her control).

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 15:22

I feel I need to point out it is most definitely not ME who tap dances!!! DD started lessons just before Christmas. She also does ballroom and most recently added ballet. She wants to start jazz and street dance too but I think 3 is enough especially when she also does gymnastics and acrobatics, St John Ambulance, and fortnightly she also does rock climbing and trampolining. Hmm (For any newbies, I should point out that the only reason she has time for all that is because she is home educated and not in school!)

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 15:45

Aww sc that sounds like a brilliant day for you and DD. Bet it's just what she needed :)

Sanscollier · 06/07/2017 16:46

Thanks Cag (and yes I was definitely including La Caglet as one of the tap-dancers!! Smile and wow to her list of activities!!) hopefully a few more relaxing days with dd to come in the next two months (holiday here always = July & Aug). Sadly though, most of her friends are solidly booked up in holiday clubs/workshops throughout the summer or have gone back to their home country to be with grandparents etc. Which is why camp is usually so important! Oh well, at least she will be spoiled by her three aunts!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2017 17:21

Hello and welcome to jodie and Crackers Smile.

Thanks all. Have emailed my parents so will wait for a response. Have said I'll phone them tomorrow if don't hear anything. Dreaded school gardening evening again tonight so off to that now. Will be back on later with links and personals.

School gardening? In this heat?!

CrackersDontMatter · 06/07/2017 18:06

I don't know how to tag people! But I have an iPhone 6s. I just clicked on "agenda" and it asked me did I want to sync them.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2017 21:36

Sorry all, back late from school gardening thing and just got kids to sleep now need to eat something. Will be on later.

PurpleDaisies · 06/07/2017 21:50

I've had sports day today so no voice and totally whacked. I came home and slept for an hour, and could easily have been there all evening. I did manage to send my parcel and I forced myself to cook tea-a really delicious experiment if spiced butternut squash and halloumi wraps so felt virtuous for avoiding the take away. Dh and I went out for another walk so not much flying but I can't quite find it in me to be bothered. Definitely the naughty corner for me.

Welcome jodie and crackers. stressy you're very good for doing school gardening. I'm sure it was appreciated. Get well to your daughter cag. sans I misread your games list as including "strip battleships" which doesn't really sound like a family game! Hi to everyone else too.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2017 22:24

Thanks Purple. The school are so appreciative and it is usually the same people who go so I know people to say hello to now. I absolutely hate it though and am a terrible gardener so I'm not sure how genuine the appreciation is really Grin. DDs love it though so we always go if we can. Not surprised you are tired after sports day.

Cag, yes, only cancelled in really extreme weather!

Crackers and jodie, again, welcome. Hopefully this thread and the Flylady website will explain things if you are new to this. If not, please ask any questions and we will try to answer Smile. This is a lovely friendly group. I think you have nailed it with a housework / motivation/ chit chat thread Smile.

Crackers, I think to properly tag people you put @username and possibly in bold but I'm not sure. So you would put @TooStressyForMyOwnGood and that tags me and emails me???! Not sure if I can tag myself but will se if I get an email. We tend to just use the old bolding of names on here - there should be a key for how to bold below your text box - so to tag me you would just put TooStressy or Stressy (capitals optional!). Does that make sense?

SC and Purple, I am also now chuckling at 'Strip Naked' game Grin.

zoo and Cag, hope your DDs feel better soon. Rosa, great to hear your DD came out of school feeling better about it all.

Thanks Einstein, SC, zoo and others for your advice re. my parents. Have an answerphone message saying of course they understand I am more than capable of driving down and would still love to see me. So I guess that is a victory although I wish it didn't need to be like that. Need to be cruel to be kind though. Of course now I actually have to do the bloody drive. Not until next month though. Wondering about train but so expensive. Will sleep on it.

Big wing flaps to Grey, foxes, Afresh, Wh0Kn0ws and everyone else.

Have another busy day tomorrow including unfortunately a funeral then things after school. Am sooo ready for the end of term (used to hate hearing that when DC much younger when I dreamt of them being in school!). We will all be desperate for school to start again after about a week of the holidays but for now I am very ready for some less rushed mornings and less packed days!

Have done very little and really just collapsed since getting back from gardening. Think I will give up and retreat to the naughty corner and just get up early tomorrow. Night all Brew.

**
Here is the daily summary for Friday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day

The daily focus for Friday is: declutter your handbag and car/date night

Baby-step no 7 - pick out the clothes you are going to wear tomorrow the night before If this helps you it can be great. I don't tend to bother unless important day (e.g. my clothes are actually laid out for tomorrow as have to go to this funeral while DD2 at preschool). Most days I just get dressed in the dark in whatever, DD1 sorts herself out and leaving clothes out for DD2 doesn't usually work as she likes to decide on the day out of hundreds of options Grin.

reminders

We are in Zone 1 this week: the entrance, front porch and dining room

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here

Today's mission is here

Flykids mission

July's habit is swish and swipe

Happy flying everyone.

Brought all the sheets back plus some pillows from the Netherlands and it decided to pour with rain today so I'm left with far too much washing. Will have to work through it in the coming days. My to do list for tomorrow is SO long!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2017 23:27

Good luck with washing and to do list longtime.

Thanks TooStressy. Might help if I went to bed instead of reading mn threads about p*takers!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 07/07/2017 07:51

Good morning.

I have no idea what has been going on the last few days Confused i have felt completely shit. Yesterday was the worse I woke up feeling so sick i went to bed and when i did wake up i had a nasty migraine. Feeling better this morning. Still a bit off but I am up in plenty of time and I can open my eyes and not see thrown a tunnel which is always a good start. Especially as I am away this weekend and have a to do list that is a mile long. Hmm

to do
laundry
ring school
empty car
pack
pack car
check oil/fluids/tyre pressures
put slow cooker on.

That is the essential list, the must do. the would like to do list is sooooo much longer but I am not feeling up to pushing my luck this morning.

Welcome to the newbies
Good luck with the washing longtime
Glad that it was easier than you feared withh your parents stressy

MN is being really slow for me this morning Hmm

Cagliostro · 07/07/2017 08:13

Good morning! Going to be a busy day today assuming DD is able to manage. DH's last sports club session - he's been running them a whole school year now which is amazing! Then a park meet which I have no food for, then ballet, then a friend coming over. And somehow we also need to fit in DD finishing her poem (she is signed up to a summer holiday writing course). DH is off to the allergy show with DSD (they both have coeliac and DH got free tickets from work).

DH was going to take the Caglets out tomorrow to give me a break but as it is, DD has ballroom and he promised that she could stay and help teach the younger ones this week (normally doesn't have time if DH has to get to work), and it's our last chance to get packed for the holiday (Monday!) and get the living room sorted again as we have family coming on Sunday along with the tap show... but DD needs to get leggings in town and DS needs a suitcase and we haven't booked the train tickets or checked a few things with the holiday park... bloody hell!!!

Greymalkin · 07/07/2017 10:59

Morning all - will catch up on thread in a bit.

My wonderful MIL had DS overnight and took him to pre school this morning so DH and I have had loads of sleep, and the difference it has made is palpable!

TaDa
Cats fed
Dishwasher unloaded
Dishwasher reloaded and on
Massively out of control laundry sorted into wash loads
One load currently in washing machine
One load pegged out to dry
Lounge floor rescued from debris and toys

The house has descended into a pit of squalor whilst I've been ill - hence out of control laundry mountain. I have loads to do :
Fold and put away about four loads of dry laundry (can do this whilst listening to The Archers omnibus podcast)
Two more wash loads at least
Online grocery shop
Deep clean the bathroom - yuk yuk yuk at the moment
Change DS bedsheets
Empty, wash and refill cat litter trays x2
Hoover throughout
If I can be arsed, mop the floors in the kitchen and hall

But first, coffee...

Sanscollier · 07/07/2017 12:02

Afternoon everyone!

Arf at "strip battleships" - if only life here were that exciting Grin

Toostressy I hope the funeral this morning goes as well as these things can. Thanks for links and Halo for attending school gardening evening again last night.

Halo to you for surviving sports day Purple

Einstein so sorry to hear you are feeling rotten; I think this weather has a lot to answer for. If it is the same with you as it is here, there have been lots of severe ups and downs in air pressure which plays havoc with headaches/sinuses etc. Or perhaps after effects of pain fumes/or just overdoing it generally? Hope you feel better soon Flowers.

Longtime good luck with Mt Washmore!

Grey yay for lovely mother-in-laws! Great you had a good night's sleep! Even though you feel newly energised, don't go and overdo it today as you are only just recovering! [stern look over pince nez].

Good luck with the myriad of activities going on at yours Cag!

Crackers thanks for app info! I have ancient Iphone model which is about to be discontinued I think, but anyway, I'll give it a go! Being
nine at heart I quite fancy the reward stars myself Grin

Expansive wing flaps to everyone else!

Feeling slighted jaded today. Dh and I were meant to be on holiday in lovely hotel last night while dd was away. Instead of which, was woken up at 3.30 am in my own bed by the dog, putting a polite but insistent paw on my chest and covering my face in a generous waft of dog breath. Dog was distressed because a bat was flying around the house! Managed to corner it in the bathroom and get it out of the window while furry shivered on the landing (he's all bark and no trousers Grin).

DD has very proudly gone "to work" in the office this morning as dh said she was allowed to join the other interns for the day (she does do the odd bit of photo-coping/filing but this is the first year dh has allowed this "officially"). She chose a smart black skirt and white shirt to wear and I told her she looked very professional, although had to suggest she might be overdoing things when she asked to borrow a briefcase Grin ]Grin . I am currently making mini sponges with cream and raspberry fillings "for the workers" afternoon tea. Bit hot to have the oven on but nice to have some time alone!

Oh yes and I am wearing blinkers with regard to Flying!

Have a good day everyone!
