Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Bloomin 'eck

Stupid idea to bake in this weather! I look like a perspiring hippopotamus with an over-sized beetroot for a head! It's a really good look, I tell you! not

Phew just having a brief rest in between picnic (we nearly didn't go but didn't want to miss it, and we got taxis to avoid long hot bus journeys) and dashing out shortly for ballet!

Luckily friend coming tonight isn't bothered by our messy living room!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/07/2017 18:29

Hello, back from DD1's activity now need to go out for a preschool thing! Will be back before bed with some brief personals and links for tomorrow.

Thanks for thoughts about funeral - it was a nice service.

Also sorry for being a bad thread leader today. Just such a busy day and now need to get ready and go back out.

I'm feeling virtuous again because we avoided McDonald's by doing an oven tea of spicy bean burgers, halloumi, chips and salad (which was really nice) and we used the 25minute cooking time to clean. Most of the weekly must do jobs are done so hopefully tomorrow we can either make headway into doing some more sorting or just not clean at all!

I'm so tired. School trip today which was really good but it's stressful not losing or breaking the children. I came home and slept for an hour and I reckon bedtime will begin with a 9...

Ta da's

**

Here is the daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day

The daily focus for Saturday is: family fun day

Baby-step no 8 - start your control journal by writing down your morning and evening routines. These days you may want to do that electronically or get an app although I know some people still prefer to use paper and pen.

reminders

We are in Zone 1 this week: the entrance, front porch and dining room

No missions or zone work at the weekend, unless you want to. You may find it easier to find the time to do these things at the weekend. If not, this is a guilt free excuse not to do it - Flylady says so Grin.

July's habit is swish and swipe

Happy flying everyone.

Sorry to be so AWOL this week, catching up now and the licked/kicked typo should be in classics!

DD's school also had sports day this week in the scorchio heat and a larger-than-average proportion of DD's class were missing the following day so I think some of them paid a heavy price! This term is always a bit hectic but DD seems to enjoy all the activities.

My to-do list is growing at a scary rate! It's getting to that stage where I am you are frozen with the fear of which bit to do next so don't do any of it That would be why it is growing, then ...

Some flying achieved, slight failure when I decided to bleach the half-bowl of the sink. I was very generous with the bleach and that was the point when the plug decided to give up on me. It's one of those bowl-shaped plugs - I tried to pull it up but the handle came up alone. I then had the bright idea of prising the rest of it up by putting a piece of cutlery through the holes only to find that the bowl bit gave up the fight leaving the actual sealing bit still firmly ensconced in the plug hole. It eventually split into four separate parts never to be reunited but the bleach water could then drain away so I'm claiming a win This cleaning lark is dangerous, let's be careful out there

Cagliostro · 08/07/2017 07:24

Totally hear you on the growing to do list! Story of my life that is!

Yesterday was tiring but really lovely. So much to do today though.

Greymalkin · 08/07/2017 07:24

Morning all.

Cotswold well there you have it; housework and cleaning are more trouble than they're worth! Grin

Stressy that's very good of you to be so involved with school stuff. Glad the funeral service went ok.

Zoo hope your poor DD gets that ear sorted soon, poor thing. And that epic declutter is Star worthy! that cupboard of doom counts as zone work without a doubt.

Purple what was the school trip? I'd be horrified at looking after other people's DC!

Cag friends who accept less than perfectly tidy houses are fabulous aren't they?! Haven't noticed you mentioning your piano of late; are you still playing?

SC why oh why woman are you baking in this weather?! They do sound delish though, I love raspberries.

Greymalkin · 08/07/2017 07:42

I had such a productive day yesterday I'm going to cheat, and claim yesterday's TaDas now:

Conquered Mount Washmore!

  • Four loads of washing done, pegged out to dry and brought in again
  • All of the above plus extra 3 or 4 loads of tumble drying folded and put away

Hoovered top floor
Changed DS bed sheets
Tidied away all DSs books
Made other beds

Super deep clean of bathroom:
*Toilet, basin and pedestal thorough wipe down and disinfect
*Bath scrubbed, shower screen covered in elbow grease and now gleaming
*Mirror and window cleaned and polished
*Window sill and skirting boards wiped clean

  • Hoovered floor, extractor fan and ceiling cobwebs *All taps polished *Floor cleaned and disinfected by hand *Empty product bottles removed from shower *Scales wiped clean *DS toilet seat and potty thoroughly cleaned

Dishwasher unloaded again
Hand washing up
Recycling sorted
DS collected from pre school
cats fed

Feeling quite proud of myself! Smile

Sanscollier · 08/07/2017 08:00

Good morning my lovelies! It's going to be another scorcher I think!

Weekend partially in town as builders working today and wreck2 is in a complete state outside and inside! Here isn't much better but at least I feel vaguely energised today! Determined to get on top of things a bit more and stop being so defeatist! Much aided by dd reverting to holiday persona - happy/smiling/obliging/full of plans to do interesting things; shows how much the school term puts a strain on her [sad but not many alternatives here (unless one is able to pay Euros 30,000 a year).

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2017 08:08

grey it was an activity based thing on a boat (!) which involved walking through a busy city centre to get there... Luckily I've had the class for a while so they know I don't stand any mucking about, my TA is fantastic, the school lent me two other TAs and we had two parent helpers so we had small groups which makes a massive difference. The kids absolutely loved it which makes it worth the stress.

cotswold our kids were fit to drop after a whole day sports day in the heat. No sunburn apart from one really daft member of staff who wanted to get a "base tan" and dust wear any suncream. Your bleach sink incident sounds exactly like something that would happen to me! I beg your sink is REALLY clean though. Smile

Ive got a lovely day planned seeing about three different groups of friends and family but I've woken up with horrendous period pain and am watching masterchef USA with marking on my knees waiting for the drugs to kick in. Happy days.

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2017 08:10

sans our pupils are absolutely socketed now and we're hardly getting anything useful done. I dread to think what their behaviour is like at home since they're all so tired. Glad to hear your daughter is happier.

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2017 08:11

Socketed?! That's supposed to say knackered. I'm knackered too!

Sanscollier · 08/07/2017 08:21

Gosh that posted all by itself and twice Confused Sorry!

As I was "saying" ...feeling very chilled today after going out for delicious curry last night; celebrating dd's successful day at work.

Greymalkin you should be feeling a LOT proud of yourself! Star Star I can see the gleam of your newly scrubbed bathroom from here! Grin

Oh dear about the sink Cotswold... but at least it's clean I guess Grin Sympathies over scary to do list; hope you can break it down in to small steps!! Good luck with it!

Thanks for links Toostressy (you are, as ever, doing a great job with thread leading!) and hope you get a bit of a rest this w/e after your hectic week.

Wow Zoo congrats on mega decluttering and hope your dd2 feels better soon.

Purple Gosh that's quite demanding for teachers doing a school trip the day after sports day but I guess it's that time of year. Ditto what Toostressy said about being incredibly grateful for teachers who facilitate school trips. More than impressive Flying list after such a busy day too! And congrats on healthy eating menu!

Good to hear you had a lovely day Cag!

Hope you are feeling a bit better now Einstein and Bluepheasant. And Foxes how are you?

Hope the packing is going ok Afreshstart

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Ta da:
animals (very slow start this morning!)

To do:
dh is kindly walking the furry and dropping off dd's list of school books for next year which has to be in by this morning and which I forgot. DD is beside herself with excitement that she is going to be learning English (officially) from Sept for the first time ever!! Grin

empty dw
triage washing and start working through it
take advantage of lovely weather to wash woollens and sofa covers
clear boudoir bed
work 'work' for a few hours
find courgette bake recipe thing from Mumsnet cookery book
buy ingredients + salad + prep for tonight
think what to do with leftover raspberry "sludge"
sort linen for bed changing
family bed making
family activity this evening?

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Sanscollier · 08/07/2017 08:26

x posts!

Poor you Purple [hands over soothing heat pack] Possibly not for this weather but have you tried these the effect lasts for ages and they work really well; can't tell you are wearing one either. Highly recommend.

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2017 08:28

I haven't seen those before sans, they look great. I've got a hot water bottle now but at work that doesn't really work! I'll make a trip to boots. Thanks. Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2017 08:46

Grey am ashamed to say I haven't played piano much lately! It's one of those things I sometimes neglect to make time for even though it makes me happy. I should though, even my occupational therapist told me that a few years ago. I haven't taught much lately (par for the course this time of year really) so it's not so much at the front of my mind. I always feel like there's more important things to do.
