Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2017 13:34

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Morning all. I need to give the bathroom a good scrub this morning. The oven is looking pretty sorry for itself at the moment too so may give that a clean aswell. Laundry basket is nearly hidden behind all the clothes overflowing from it too Blush

Cagliostro · 22/07/2017 08:02

Managed to gather more stuff for charity before people woke up! Quite scary how easy it was to reach so much clutter while sitting on my bed. Still can't see much floor in here.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/07/2017 08:15

cag sounds like my house!

foxessocks · 22/07/2017 08:34

cag one step at a time - you'll get there even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment.

I didn't really do any decluttering in the bedroom this week, we had new sofas delivered so a lot of time was spent getting the old ones out, hoovering all the hidden places and then getting the new ones in. Plus had to get lots of the toys in the living room upstairs (which involved me putting them in a giant bag and stuffing them in dd cupboard Blush). I also spent ages yesterday doing a mad clean up downstairs and the bathroom as thought we had visitors coming and then they cancelled last minute! And I swear the bathroom looks back to the way it was this morning Confused

This morning the baby did a poo that came out of his nappy so I've been cleaning up the carpet! Not sure I'll even bother with a to do list today but hopefully I'll get something decluttered on our bedroom or some tidying in there.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

foxessocks · 22/07/2017 08:35

Celeste don't mention the dreaded oven cleaning! I can't face it. Keep telling myself I'll put the stuff on to soak overnight but then by the time I've got the kids to bed I can't be bothered anymore.

Afreshstartplease · 22/07/2017 08:42

cag we didn't use movers so I cannot help there however moving things ourself was ridiculously stressful so I kinda wish we had got people in!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/07/2017 09:18

Morning all, done nothing yet as first morning of summer holidays so no dance classes. Must get on now though.

Cleaning the oven is pure evil. A chore invented by Satan himself when he was in a bad mood. But a chore the longer i put off the worse it will be.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 22/07/2017 11:09

Unless you have a steam cleaner and do it regularly which makes it less smelly and far easier. except you still put it off because you hate cleaning the oven

Morning. Have actually slept, could still use another 14hrs sleep but the 16hrs sleep I did get was very much needed. Do need to pop into town and buy some more vit D tablets though as that was the reason that I had forgotten to take them. Must have a to do list somewhere in this house.

To do:
anything that i can face doing.

Cagliostro · 22/07/2017 11:20

Aaargh oven cleaning! We have two that need it (one being the built in one that doesn't work... but it's the landlord's).

We will definitely be paying movers! Can't imagine being able to manage without TBH especially as we will most likely have the baby by then (I am likely to need extra recovery time due to health stuff so anything that makes it easier will be worth the money I reckon!). Outsourcing for the win! :o

Had a chat with DH about the list I wrote and we agreed that we will get the skip before baby no matter what, but not yet. We will wait until we are nearer the top of the housing list (i.e. nearer to actually being allocated somewhere).

In the meantime we will keep decluttering but with a clearer plan in place for it. So that when skip arrives we will be ready to shove the big furniture etc in it.

This involves starting to sort, clean and pack stuff now, as well as continuing getting rid of small clutter. Will be getting some more storage boxes ASAP.

I get the impression that we don't get much time at all between winning the bid and starting to pay rent so anything we can get done beforehand is going to help.

Of course now we've planned all this we will probably end up waiting another year :o but at least it's forcing us into action!

Mega carb cravings this morning, must go get a bagel possibly two as they are the thin ones and cream cheese yum!

Cagliostro · 22/07/2017 11:23

I meant that the oven is the landlord's therefore we can't just ditch it. Not that I was going to leave it for the landlords to clean! :o

mermaidsandunicorns · 22/07/2017 12:31

Flipping eck washing line snapped but I have a rotary one that I haven't used so spent twenty minutes wrestling with it (I would have caused a lot of amusement to any of my neighbours watching) finally got it up and hung washing out

And it rains

Angry
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/07/2017 16:45

Oh dear mermaids. Well, we are out, it's raining and all my washing is on the line at home Sad. Cag, would definitely vote for using movers if at all possible. Glad you got some sleep Einstein.

celeste, totally agree with you re. oven cleaning. I never clean the oven Blush.

Had fish and chip tea and now movie night. Love the DDs getting older and able to do things like this Smile. Going through toys in the living room at the same time and amazingly they have parted with some more stuff - not a huge amount but a good start Smile.

7 days zoo 😱 wow! Thankfully it doesn't seem like it's quite that short here. Mum has offered to help if (when) there's a rent overlap too which is really kind as we will have so much to pay for when we move.

Not sure if today will be productive as I had an epic anxiety meltdown last night and I'm so worn out. DH is going back to work after two weeks off as well. I think today might just be 'getting through it' rather than anything else. I may write some lists though - now we've decided on the skip hire we have more specific aims so if I can break all those down into smaller goals it should help over the next couple of months.

Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 15:22

Quiet today! I've not done much at all but just managed to gather stuff to chuck in the bathroom and bedroom. That's another binbag out the house.

Need to start writing lists now but glad I have done something practical too, however tiny and insignificant it seems in the grand scheme of things.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/07/2017 15:26

Practical is good Cag Smile.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 20:11

Good luck with the Lego!

I have managed a list but it's trickier than I thought. I still feel a bit rabbit in headlights about it but at least with the stuff I've written done it will be a a good start.

We ordered some big storage boxes this morning. I have been avoiding buying any more storage for ages now, as generally I find it just breeds more clutter! But hopefully as we have agreed specific things that are being packed into them until we move, it won't end up full of random crap!

Next up is a list of what we need to buy for baby Shock I've bought some clothes (possibly too many but I am enjoying choosing tiny onesies again after 8 years!) but apart from a baby sleeping bag we have absolutely nothing. Need to write it down and get planning!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/07/2017 20:28

Just you and me on here Cag! Big wing flaps to everyone else. Links next...
