Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Whoknows I luffs you for your input on that other thread. Thank you.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/07/2017 08:32

Soooo after a couple of really horrific nights with insomnia and not being able to sleep at all last night, I finally realised that I have a tendancy to vit D deficiency and am supposed to be taking suppliments daily and one of the side effects of said deficiency is horrific insomnia. I had to stop taking them pre surgery back at Easter and post surgery brain fog forgot that I was supposed to restart taking them HmmBlushBlush i am a dumbass

So there will be no flying except laundry as that is essential and I have an overdue blanketgate project to finish we don't talk about blanketgate 1 this is blanketgate 3 I haven't learnt So mostly today I am hoping to finish that project as it was supposed to be finished the beginning of the year yes some of the christmas projects i have been making have been owed 2016 presents, although some are for 2017

Hopefully you have all manged some good quality sleep - even if it might not have been as long as some might wish - and for productive flying days.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 08:41

Oops einstein you've reminded me I'm supposed to be taking vitamin D too! I found it difficult to take tablets during morning sickness phase but feel ok now so really must. Also iron!

Also need to make sure DD is taking hers as anything that might help her sleep is necessary! I need to get back in touch with the specialist HVs for her too as we'd agreed to wait until her diagnosis, and to see how things settled with the bullying situation.

Currently on bus heading to hospital to have my ECG monitor removed. Strongly suspect it's been a pointless task TBH as it was last time!

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 08:42

I think I might just bite the bullet though and ask the HV if now that she's been diagnosed we can possibly try melatonin. Am torn. But somewhat desperate for something that helps!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/07/2017 09:30

Melatonin helps ds a lot. except when he is a bugger and eats/drinks things that make him hyperactive It was a life saver for us. So I would say it is worth an ask. Ds still gets up 3-4 times per night in a bad patch but the quality of sleep is significantly improved and pre-melatonin a bad patch was up every 2 hours with a total of 4 hours sleep so sleep has been greatly improved even if it is not good by most people's standards. iyswim. My advice it is worth asking about and if you can try it do. However, ds could only get it through a pead and has to have a pead sign off on it every so often. So it might be a wait and thus asking might get a slow ball rolling. if that makes sense

beginning to hear a nap screaming my name, sense is flying out the window rapidly Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 10:14

Morning everyone.

Last real child free time now before September so am making the most of this morning.

Ta da:-
Morning routine
Picked up parcel
Gave a bag of preschool uniform away
Token effort of exercise
Shower
Stuff put into living room to sort through

To do:-
Figure out where to put a load of work kit that I have been sent - yet another reason I wasn't super keen to freelance.
Eat leftover pizza in front of telly while DDs at school / preschool
Sort through paperwork in front of telly
Go back to reality and pick up DD2
School pick up
Girls' tea
DD1 swimming
Figure out what to cook for our tea.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 10:51

Thanks Einstein we have at least one more meeting with the paediatrician (she is supposed to have discharged us on diagnosis Shock but she thinks they have other conditions as well as ASD so wants to start the ball rolling on that) so hopefully we can get in there and ask her too. I'm not sure if they'd agree as I've heard the child needs to wake up during the night as well, DD doesn't usually, it's just that it takes hours and hours to get to sleep. But has to be worth asking.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/07/2017 10:53

Worst that can happen if you ask is for them to say no, best is yes. It has the best odds over not asking at all Grin

Rosabellajames · 21/07/2017 10:53

Fingers crossed the vit D works quickly for you einstein !
I've still got Monday & Tuesday to enjoy stressy, although I love having the older 2 home - my house does not !!

Ta da
10 mins paperwork (STILL attacking the house bleurgh from Monday ! Blush )
15 mins decluttering bedroom, I've ordered a new mattress which will be here next Thursday so it's pointless doing the mattress task today, also have bought brand new bedding!
Normal morning routine
Booked a holiday

Still to do:
Dishwasher & wipe over kitchen
Mirrors
A load of washing
Kids clothes ready for the busy weekend
Attack the huge pile of clothes waiting to be folded and put away

Dd2 had her 1 year jabs yesterday and is cranky so we'll see what the day brings .

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/07/2017 11:07

There is a perk to split parenting, especially as we try to split the summer holiday roughly in half. Which means child free time in the summer Grin although tbf in some respects it is easier now ds is older but as I need to find a new job and finish some deep level decluttering I am hoping the child free time allows me to achieve everything that needs to be achieved before september.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 12:21

Sounds like a good summer plan Einstein. Hope appointment went ok Cag and definitely sounds worth asking about the melatonin. Rosa, yes, the house is my concern over the summer too Confused!

Ta da:-
Bag to charity shop
Very small amount of paperwork gone through

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 12:26

My house will be no different over summer I suppose. Maybe it will be better as we don't have so much rushing about to various clubs etc.

Appt was fine thank you although hurt like heck peeling the sticky pads off :o had a nice cake and read my kindle after though and then found some seriously cute dinosaur baby clothes in Boots.

I've not really done anything useful today but need to do some emailing. DH has cleared the bath/sink drains Envy (not an envy face) and taken the Caglets out for a mile run. Still need to do some English with DD.

I should cook dinner today as we got some stuff for batch cooking and if I don't, it'll end up going to waste voice of bitter experience - DH has done all the cooking while he's off but I want to get ahead for when he's back to work.

Sanscollier · 21/07/2017 13:35

Expansive wing flaps from motorway service station to everyone! Such is the stress of getting dh to actually leave his desk and getting us all on the road (and even worse, leaving house/office in reasonable state for others to take over) that we are all in a big huff with one another, so I am sitting in the car, dd is sitting on a bench with her back to me, and dh has disappeared (I assume to buy food). It can only get better ... Confused Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 13:38

Sounds like normal start to a family trip to me SC Grin.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 15:58

Enjoy sc hope everyone's mood improves!

Have cooked a big pot of bechamel (although no matter how much butter I start with, it never seems to make as much as I hope...), a tomato and veg sauce (blended to hide veg from fussy DS - I also added lentils this time!) and DH has a bolognese on the go now. He also baked some cookies with the Caglets as we had some box kits languishing on the shelf.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 17:43

Hmmm well Caglets not overly keen on the pasta sauce. But they did eat it so I can still call that a win right? I'll just have to remember not to put so many lentils in next time, and not serve so much of it.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2017 18:38

Big decisions to be made here. We have always thought it wouldn't be worth hiring a skip. Mainly because DH works crazy hours and I have so little energy that a massive quick declutter is unlikely. Trying to do stuff gradually but it's like bailing out the titanic with a thimble. But it looks like we may be able to move a little sooner than we thought (moving up the council list quicker than anticipated).

And there's so much stuff that we just can't take with us. For example the Caglets' beds - the frames are really old and will absolutely not handle being dismantled and rebuilt in the new place, they will need new beds (both will be getting high sleepers with futons underneath). However skipping the beds - already falling apart TBH, DD's is missing drawers and DS' is alarmingly wobbly - means they will be sleeping on mattresses for the time being. They won't mind this, but we will have to move all their clothes which are stored underneath. So how long is too long to put up with that. Similarly we would be ditching our countertop oven (built in one doesn't work, hob is fine so would still have that) - how much time without that do we want?

Aaaargh! Decisions!!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 22:31

Ooh Cag, I can see how that would be difficult to decide. I would imagine you have more spare time to get a skip filled and sorted now than after Cagletini arrives so maybe worth doing now? All the decluttering info I read while avoiding actual decluttering says if in doubt get rid of stuff. However, I can see that you might be very tired and the hassle of having no oven etc. So I am on the fence, leaning towards saying just get the skip and get on . Definite win if pasta sauce eaten Smile.

Emotional day here as was DD2's last day at preschool (although she's still in nursery until end of August). Also managed DD1 swimming. Not done a before bed routine but don't care as we do not have to get up for anything tomorrow morning!!!

Big wing flaps to mermaids, Afresh, zoo, foxes Wh0Kn0ws, Purple, Cotswold, Grey and everyone else.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/07/2017 06:55

Ps wouldve made earlier start but i click link matress hoover thread and lost best part hour chortling over that.....

Cagliostro · 22/07/2017 07:11

Afresh can I be cheeky and ask how much movers cost please? Am trying to figure out how much we may need to put aside. I'm glad you have the summer off, good timing so you can focus on your new home! :)

Thank you stressy having written a list we definitely have enough for a skip. Which is scary really considering how much stuff we have already got rid of! But it does look like it'll be worth it. So it's just a question of when (definitely before baby though).

Won't get rid of the oven though, it just limits us far too much and with fussy kids that's a very bad thing! So that will have to be scrapped (or donated if charity wants it) once we actually move.

God we have so much crap to sort out! :( It's terrifying really. One piece of furniture I don't want to take with us is the massive unit we have all our board games in, so I'm wondering about packing some of the games up now (the ones we definitely want to keep, so we then have more space to try the other ones we aren't sure about). Lots of books could be packed too, and I still need to sort the toddler toys properly! It all just feels overwhelming and scary. :( But we have to keep ploughing on now because we are running out of time before my due date.

Must get practical or I'll end up panicking (already can't sleep!). DH grabbed some books to donate yesterday so I'll look for a few more bits this morning that he can add to the bag (big ikea one) before taking it. Also going to put more small stuff for the skip outside. It's embarrassing, but now that we have agreed to get a skip I know it won't be there too much longer. Sorry neighbours Blush. Needs must.

Have to look at the positives too - batch cooking went quite well, and we've made a bit of progress with home ed issues this week too which is a huge weight off. So it's not all bad.
