Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

pmsl Grin

its the bare minimum i like to do really. Find it difficult to find energy or motivation to do much housework in the evening and then end up bltizing the house on a saturday or sunday morning to make up.

Longtime · 19/07/2017 21:29

Sc, I'm sure you're right as I've gone from everything needing to be just so when the ds's were little to a rather lot more relaxed attitude as dd was growing up. They are all untidy! Dh prefers the more relaxed me though I think sometimes would like me a little less relaxed. He wouldn't dare say though! I think it's partly because I was very house proud when the boys were little. We haven't had the money to spend on the house in the 27 years we have been here so it's really shabby looking and I don't have the enthusiasm for trying to make it look nice (as it's an impossible task). Feeling so down during my dd's illness and since he passed away hasn't helped. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can rekindle that enthusiasm?

Hope you have a lovely time in the UK/France Sc. We are off to the UK too at the weekend to visit my mum. It'll be six months since my df passed away on Saturday so I need to be there.

Basic flying here today as we went out watching the vierdaagse marching.

Cagliostro · 19/07/2017 21:44

Ah bless you celeste it's bittersweet when they start getting more independent! But it just changes rather than goes away, they still need us.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 19/07/2017 21:56

Even though you do hit a stage when you feel like a taxi...... Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/07/2017 21:56

longtime Flowers. 6 months is still early. Re. inspiration for the house, I look at lovely organised houses on the internet and used to read house magazines. Depends though as could work both ways if you know that is not achievable in your own house. Or visiting friends with very tidy houses. I usually come back insprired to declutter and organise but then life gets in the way.

Here is the daily summary for Wednesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day

Baby-step no 20 - do a full load of laundry, wash, dry, put away. I am obsessed with laundry and it is one of the few things I manage to keep on top of, or at least don't get horrendously behind in.

We are in Zone 4 this week: the master bedroom and en-suite if applicable

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 4.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

July's habit is swish and swipe

Happy flying everyone.

By keeping on top of laundry I mean realistically we still have piles of laundry - items just those piles are organised Grin.

Someone mentioned Zoflora. I'd never heard of it until I saw this thread today mattress vacuuming. It'll give you ladies a laugh if you haven't already read it.

Thank you for the kind words and tips Toostressy.

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 22:40

Waves to Toostressy (from fellow laundry obsessive Grin )

Longtime six months is still very soon after a bereavement of a loved one and it is completely understandable that chores aren't top of the priority list atm Flowers Safe travelling to the UK; I hope the visit is not too painful for you.

And fwiw, I have total sympathy over shabby house syndrome - ours is exactly the same - renovation and labour costs are so expensive here. It is very demoralising to try and keep up a good standard of housekeeping with crumbling walls and peeling paint etc. I totally 'get' it. So no motivational tips from me I'm afraid, just Gin Grin.

Star for your lists Celeste and Rosa

Ta Kwon doe sounds great Cag!

Waves to everyone else!

Longtime · 19/07/2017 22:44

Sc maybe we should put our heads together in September. Failing that, just go for coffee 😂

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 22:44

Argh, can't spell Tae Kwon do!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 19/07/2017 22:51

Two things surprised me about that thread:

  1. the number of people who did not know about hoovering mattresses
  2. how squeamish people are about it.
mermaidsandunicorns · 19/07/2017 23:10

longtime
I had three bereavements in October and it still hurts me now so please don't worry at all.

Day off tomorrow thank goodness

Sanscollier · 20/07/2017 05:10

So sorry to hear that Mermaids Flowers

Longtime you are on! Grin.

Huge wing flaps to one and all! And don't forget to keep haughty/naughty corner well stocked with Gin in my absence Grin

Rosabellajames · 20/07/2017 06:51

Morning everyone!!

Have a lovely break sc

I can't get the evening routine settled either stressy I think it's because each day is so different with after school clubs , dd2 last nap is all over the place (I think she's about to cut it out ) so that can affect her bedtime.

Flowers longtime Take care of yourself, sorry for your loss. Motivation wise, I write a list each day and using the timer works really well for me, I think making a start is the hardest part, then once I do and I see the achievements you can make in 15 mins it motivates me to carry on. I'm hoping that by new year, all the house will be decluttered......

To do
The usual (s&s make beds etc)
15 mins bedroom
15 mins on jewellery- looking forward to this one - I can't actually ever remember doing it Blush it'll be interesting if there are any items I actually like anymore!!
Load of washing
15 mins putting clothes away ( a task that has got way out of hand whilst sitting in the naughty haughty corner for a couple of weeks!)
I'm off to buy dd2 some shoes when she wakes from her morning nap, then I have ds' some school summer fair, then dd2's jabs this afternoon Sad so may not get everything done. We'll see what the day brings !

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/07/2017 10:55

Chaos reigning here
grey great list
celeste starting school that cant be possible (ds off to secondary sept)time does fly

I will try harder(just doubtful today that day.been up night dd2 ears...she gone school look like train wreck cry pain.tis trip to harry potter studios. And she was cry half night frustrated as desperate not miss it.exoecting exhaysted and pauned child at 8pm pick up.ds off cant speak sore throat and fever
I need a nap!!

foxessocks · 20/07/2017 13:21

Hi all just catching up with the thread a bit as have been so busy with end of term type stuff haven't done much actual flying this week. We got caught in torrential rain this morning so have had to come home and get everyone changed and warm and dry again! Also left the washing on the line Angry

Zoo a nap sounds great - hope you manage one

Einstein I didn't know about hoovering a mattress Blush but I wouldn't be squeamish, think it sounds quite satisfying!

Right. Need to get lunch stuff cleared away and then do some missions or decluttering or something useful!

Ta das
Daily routine
Few bits from shop

To do
Too much to even list!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 20/07/2017 13:47

ds thought he could get out of his school trip today by being up all night. He didn't he went anyway. The only thing he achieved was to keep me up literally all night. So despite having gone back to bed for a few hours this morning I am tired, grumpy and have a headache Hmm

Zoo I hope dd2 managed to enjoy the trip despite being so ill Sad

I hate how life here is booked so far in advance. I am now calendar sorting for Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec. It makes the year fly by and is rather depressing as you never seem to get to enjoy the month that you are in.

celeste4 · 20/07/2017 19:00

Hi all,

Tea has been cooked and eaten (spag bol) and just about to run a bath for ds. Will give the bathroom a once over whilst i'm in there with him. Also need to wash dishes, wipe down kitchen, and give the living room a tidy up. Oh and get ds ready for bedtime. Never frigging ending.

Einstein This is summer and this year is indeed flying by. It'll be August the last real month of summer soon Shock

Rosabellajames · 20/07/2017 19:31

Did you get your nap zoo? I hope your dd2 is ok, I'm sure she'll be shattered when you pick her up later, hopefully she has enjoyed her day though.

Tada
Morning routine
Jewellery sorted and loads thrown
15 mins decluttering bedroom
1 wash done and dried
Hoovered through
Ds summer fair
Took dd2 for her jabs

To do
Evening routine

mermaidsandunicorns · 20/07/2017 20:18

Hello all busy day here

School run done
Popped to town clerks office to have photo done and ask about the cinema proposal. I am meeting with the committee chairman next week hopefully.
Food shop done

General tidy up done
Picked up letter from work as I've asked for flexible working can't sustain the hours they're giving me any more. Have to attend a meeting to discuss it

celeste4 · 20/07/2017 20:52

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/07/2017 22:36

Hello all, long day here and nearly ready for bed.

mermaids, fingers crossed for your hits getting sorted. Good list celeste Smile. Definitely agree with never endingness.

Rosa, Star for jewellery declutter. Einstein, you sound very organised thinking that far ahead. I love autumn and winter so don't mind feeling as if summer is slipping away but I know I am in the minority. I know what you mean about not enjoying the present though.

. foxes, glad you got warm and dry after the rain. zoo, Flowers for poorly DC.

Have a lovely time SC. We will indeed keep the naughty / naughty corner stocked up Smile.

longtime, I cannot unsee that thread now AngryGrin.

Big wing flaps to all. Last day of term here tomorrow. Links next...
