Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Evening all, I'm sorry I haven't read back through the thread, work is utterly manic at the moment and lots of school prep stuff going on, so not much spare time atm.

4 hours at work
Dinner in the slow cooker
Dishwasher unloaded and reloaded
Hand washing up done
One wash load done and pegged out to dry
Clean laundry folded and put away

Dusted stair skirtings and window sills
Kitchen worktops wiped down
Bathroom:

-floor cleaned on hands and knees (actually much easier and quicker than with steam mop!)
Three beds made
Made lunch for tomorrow
Set out clothes for tomorrow

Collected DS
Picked ripe blackberries from the garden
Flopped on sofa.

Hi celeste lovely to have you back! Can't believe your DS is starting school, where did that time go?!

Nothing achieved this evening as has a meal out with a couple of friends. Much needed chat!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2017 22:12

Grey, hello Smile! Great list, as is yours celeste. Cag, meal and chat sounds perfect. SC Grin at guilt assuaging salad. I hope things improve with your DD.

Dishwasher on, just had a sit down with DH but going to get on now. There is ice cream to eat and then the EOTM continues. Busy two days coming up Brew as I am at work and DH is on a course. Also got another contact for some temporary work today. In September I will really need to organise some kind of work database / organisation system / better diary Grin.

Hello also to zoo, Afresh, mermaids, foxes, Cotswold, BluePheasant, Purple and everyone else.

It's been a massive decluttering day at work today to try and get things ready for September. My house is a mess but at least my classroom is gettin there. Damn you previous teacher for leaving cupboards full of crap. I'm knackered but at least tomorrow is the last full day.

Waves wearily to everyone.

mermaidsandunicorns · 19/07/2017 00:09

Mega late shift so popping on to say hello
Only basic flying managed today
Got plumber coming tomorrow to finally sort my broken shower
Many many town council emails replied to
I have code of conduct training next week I was slightly disappointed in the point that said we aren't allowed to have meetings when the bar is open
Most of my best and worst decisions have been made when inebriated Grin
I have lots of ideas tho and need to buy an ideas notebook I want to start with an open air cinema evening and a Cornish food festival which I think will work finds allowing

Cagliostro · 19/07/2017 09:56

DH and Caglets just spent a rather pointless hour sorting through the Lego box Hmm hoping we can get some more useful stuff done today! We were up early as DS had a dermatology appt... which DH then realised is actually next week! Thankfully that was before they left.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 19/07/2017 11:18

But will the weather work for that mermaid Grin Always a mud fest for our local event but it is held on a bank holiday weekend Hmm

There has been no flying, there will be no flying for a few days. probably more than a few but meh

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 11:41

Same here about the Flying Einstein firmly in meh-holiday mode!!

Very uncomfortable humid weather here - air so thick you could cut it with a knife- although the rainstorms are coming!

Feeling a bit more chipper though because starting to see glimpses of hope on the choring front. Downstairs looking vaguely clean and respectable and bed linen and some other things for hols have been washed and ironed by fortnightly ironing lady this morning - whoo hoo! She is so fast I didn't put out enough stuff though so she whizzed through it and left early which is probably just as well, as it is not really comfortable ironing weather!

The rest of the washing (mainly dd's) has been sorted in to colour piles and dd has been given instructions as to how to work through it [evil mother emoticon - mwha, mhwa, mhwa ...]

No luck getting dd to empty the dw Sad or carry plates six paces from dining room table to kitchen though Hmm

I am keeping my powder dry and being lenient until dd friend's visit + birthday celebrations are over so dd can have a total holiday flop - and then I will be taking up the reins and removing the phone for three quarters of the day again.

On the upside: I have also gone on strike cooking from scratch for a week. Amazing how much more time it frees up! And quite easy at this time of the year to survive on salady bits, fruit and cold cuts etc.

Tally-ho and onward and upward! If I am not back on here for a while - I hope you all have a lovely summer Flowers Cake Wine Brew with a Bear thrown in for luck!!

mermaidsandunicorns · 19/07/2017 12:35

I could possibly have a back up location if it was wet I'm going to do a spider diagram and write it all down as I have these thought puffs and then forget them

Longtime · 19/07/2017 12:48

I am so impressed with some of these long lists!

Are you off for long Sc? Anywhere exciting?

I have been pretty terrible at teaching my dcs to do anything much for themselves and then have sent them out into the world (well the UK) to fend for themselves. I doubt I've done them any favours but they have just had to learn fast. When ds1/ds2 were little I was super organised and tidy so there was no need for them to be. By the time dd came along (she's 8 years younger than ds2), I'd become much lazier (thank you Internet) and therefore much less tidy. I thought it might make her tidy but sadly, no. We seem to have collected so much stuff and we are not huge consumers. I think I need to get a bit brutal with some of the stuff I keep for sentimental reasons.

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 13:12

Just the usual family tour this year Longtime i.e. UK & France.

Tbh, (and happily Grin) I'm not convinced parental habits rub off directly on to offspring (not in terms of parental effort expended anyway!) so I would'nt worry too much about it. I'm one of four siblings and two of us are averagely tidy, one is spectacularly well organised, and one is out of control messy!! Interestingly, my nephew (son of super organised offspring ) is pretty woeful when it comes to housework as everything has been done for him, so it can work the other way ifyswim!

Also, being a perfectionist (in theory anyway!) like me is the worst of all, as you end up with bits of the house absolutely perfect for a few mins a year (but not sustainable obviously) and other bits in total chaos - instead of a happy medium which is the best way to live really imho!

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 13:15

Congrats Purple btw on school decluttering!

Mermaids love idea of food festival but to my same, can't think of Cornish dishes beyond pasties (delicious!) and fresh fish recipes... ??

Sanscollier · 19/07/2017 13:16

Waves to Cag and everyone else! Sorry on tablet thing and can't scroll v well

Rosabellajames · 19/07/2017 14:55

crazy day today!

tada
15 mins on bedroom + 27fling thingy (now means I can actually shut bedside drawers
cleared surface of bedside drawers - unsure what 'pretty' thing to put on there though!
dusted downstairs
1 wash
made beds
S&s
dishwasher loaded on and emptied
bought a new mattress (I've been meaning to buy a new one for over a year !! haha)
paid some bills
bought cards for upcoming birthdays
ordered prescriptions

Now off for the school run and start the crazy evening routine !! Will catch up later on , hope everyones had a good day so far!

Cagliostro · 19/07/2017 19:59

Very 'meh' in terms of flying here today. Got some home ed done though which is progress,

DS tried a new club today, tae kwon do, he loved it! It will mean every weekday evening has a club after summer though 😱 But I don't mind if it's something that works for him, DD does loads more than him.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/07/2017 20:13

Hello all, Star for work decluttering Purple and hope you got through your last full day ok. mermaids, food and drink festival sounds fab as long as plan if it rains as others have said. I also want to eat a Cornish pasty now Angry.

Rosa, yes I have yet to find a solution for the crazy evening routine. Great work on being able to shut the drawers Smile. SC, hope you enjoy your holiday as I would imagine it can be tiring and stressful at times visiting family.

longtime, I am also trying to be brutal about keeping stuff - it is a long process. DH and I are trying to start encouraging the girls (age 6 and 4) to pick up after themselves - I think in the summer holidays I will try to look at the Flykids mission with them.

Sometimes you just need a few days off flying Einstein Cake.

Cag, oh dear re. an hour sorting lego. I find lego very difficult to tidy so can see why that was a pointless task! Glad you realised about the appointment in time.

Ta da:-
Been at work today but did manage 5 mins in the cupboard of doom today. It is looking much less doom like - not perfect but aiming for progress not perfection Smile. Hopefully another 15 mins or so tonight will get it sorted.
Ordered two timers for helping around the house etc and they arrived today
DD1 has written another thank you card.

Big wing flaps to Wh0Kn0ws, Grey, BluePheasant, zoo, Afresh, foxes and everyone else.

Xpost Cag, glad your DS enjoyed his club. I used to do martial arts a long time ago when I was younger.

OP posts:
celeste4 · 19/07/2017 20:24

Cag - yes i know he has grown into a little boy now and not my lil baby no more. He tells me now he does not need me to do things like putting his shoes on, or cutting his food up, and makes me feel redundant in the process Sad

Mermaid - I live in the SW. I would attend a Cornish Food Festival. There are so many great farm shops in this part of the world Smile

Today felt like a very long shift. We had the thunder and lightning quite heavy here last night and ds woke up and jumped in with us and kept wiggling around in bed waking me up and ended up with little sleep. This evening after work i have:-

made tea (just frozen bits and bobs from the freezer)
washed dishes and put everything away
zoflora'd kitchen tops
emptied kitchen bin
put some laundry on
general tidy up of living room

Thursday tomo. Nearly the weekend Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/07/2017 20:34

celeste, that's not a bad liar for after work on little sleep Smile.
