Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2017 13:34

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

mermaidsandunicorns · 17/07/2017 19:21

I've just found it on YouTube here you go

foxessocks · 17/07/2017 19:25

Like the sound of that tea zoo!

We just had a dinnertime disaster, the baby kept chucking his naan bread around and then dd chucked her knife on the floor in anger because she was told to eat some spinach. The same spinach which she had said to us 2 minutes beforehand was her favourite and she'd definitely be eating it all! Confused 3 year olds are properly mad.

Anyway resulted in a lot of shouting and a lot of crying and she told us we are a horrible mummy and daddy because we shout all the time (we don't!!)

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/07/2017 20:00

foxes I am an evil mum and I take pride in it as means I don't just pander but challenge behaviourWink

Lil ones fed, watered and in bed reading. I feel a lazy cheese sandwich supper and crap TV night

Rosabellajames · 17/07/2017 21:15

I'm a horrible person and a mean mum too foxes. My reply to it is that I am your mum, not your best friend, you don't have to like me all the time but there's nothing you can do about it mwahhahahaha Grin

House starting to look like a home again, concentrating on downstairs tomorrow (and the 15 mins in the bedroom) then hopefully I should be nearly there!! How quickly it unravels when you stop following the routine !!

Cagliostro · 17/07/2017 21:42

My day went from bad to worse! DD and I both in tears earlier. This is hard. Hope tomorrow is better

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/07/2017 21:53

Hello all, just done quick thread catch upZ. A warm welcome to you organix. Flylady is great for people who are not sure how and when to clean (I include myself in this at times!) and as SC points out, so is YouTube. Flylady recommendeds you work through the beginners' babysteps which we post every night on here. There is lots of getting started information here but we would urge you not to sign up to the emails unless you really want to - there are a lot.

Still very much in EOTM (end of term madness here), will be back on before bed. Big wing flaps to all.

Morning all, was in a grump last night but do genuinely love school stuff normally so am up and resolved to embrace EOTM even though I will still whinge about it.

Ta da:-
10 mins decluttering in cupboard of doom which is very slowly looking less doom like.

To do:-
Peg washing out
Get everyone up and dressed etc
Get bags and lunches ready (DH has made sandwiches so not too bad) as didn't do it last night
Morning routine
Exercise (if time, may be optimistic)
Shower
School run
Stuff to charity shop

Then:
Drive to meet friends for coffee Smile as have childfree morning
Take recycling to supermarket
Go into school for a thing in the afternoon
Pick up both DDs
Keep two excitable children amused until bedtime
DD1 has some homework she needs help with and we still have 1001 thank you cards to write.

Best get on!

OP posts:
Rosabellajames · 18/07/2017 09:07

coffee then cracking on with the chores - 3 hours broken sleep last night!! whatever is achieved today is a bonus.

ta da
kids are fed, watered and at school

Cagliostro · 18/07/2017 09:46

Better nights sleep, still woke for a bit but no epic anxiety this time. Currently panic tidy/stash and dashing in living room as have a lesson. Not taught much in the last few months so haven't been even vaguely keeping on top of things.

This is one of the reasons I am getting panicky, because DH will be back to work soon and we will be just where we started yet again. There's been so much to do in DH's time off that we've not got much done in the house at all really.

Also wondering how we will achieve a greater amount of structure home ed wise. Although the Caglets have learned loads with a more free approach, it's become apparent that DD's needs especially mean she needs more pushing in the core subjects so that she gets regular practice. Planning to start over the summer as we have less clubs. But during term time we are rushing about so much between clubs and my teaching. I suppose the teaching will sort itself out once baby arrives (a few close friends will still be coming as they are more than happy to snuggle the baby while I teach!) but I don't know what to do about the rest - it's so important to their health (mental and physical) to do the activities. But this is one of the few times I really wish we had a car, as we spend so much time travelling to and from everything that some days we are barely home. Need to sit down with DH and properly plan it.

Best dash as pupils arriving soon!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2017 10:00

Ta da:-
Stuff to charity
DDs cried when I tried to give one thing away (a big ornament thing) so I have relented and said they can keep it if we declutter other things this afternoon. We shall see what actually gets decluttered!
Exercise
Food shop

Cagliostro · 18/07/2017 10:43

It's so hard when they cling on to stuff isn't it! My two still have toddler toys. Of course we now have a reason to keep some things, but still trying to reduce it - for example I've got rid of lots of the Happyland so there's still a decent amount but not ridiculous quantities. And I still need to actually store it properly for a couple of years to make some room in the meantime. Which is difficult as they still want to play with it! It does reassure me that they'll enjoy playing with Cagletini though - DS is not best pleased at the idea of being a big brother, but I'm sure he will still enjoy building duplo and train tracks with his old toys so it might help them bond a bit when baby's older.

Feel a bit better now teaching is done. Off for an autism picnic now!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2017 15:37

Cag, I love Happyland and would happily play with it myself BlushSmile. Did declutter some though.

Rosa Brew if you are flagging after your lack of sleep.

Ta da:-
Lovely coffee with friends
Recycling - bigger ta da than it looks as our kerbside recycling is not great so need to take stuff to bottle bank etc plus included shoe recycling
Bag of car toys to charity - she refuses to play with them!
Gone into school
School pick up

Sorry for posting and running or not posting at all. I have now read the whole thread but such is my memory' I can't remember what I wanted to say! I'll start with waving to everyone and sending Flowers to cag and einstein. Oh and congratulations to mermaid.

Realised I typed dss for ds1/ds2 which could have been mistaken for dstepson I guess? Not that it really matters.

Dnephew left after a week of theme and water parks. We are now back in the Dutch house. I had only been once in a whole year and have now been twice in three weeks! My tadas consist of weeding and trimming back the ivy and that's about it. Oh and i did bring some washing with me to do so that's done too.

It's the vierdaagse here in Nijmegen (which is why we have come this week). Just off out to the town to eat and drink lots and listen to funky Dutch music!!

Cagliostro · 18/07/2017 16:25

Sounds fun long :)

Stressy my favourite kids toy is the wooden train track. I always wanted some as a child and never had any so my kids have loads :o

paxillin · 18/07/2017 16:27

Love your monthly rhyming thread titles, fledglings! What are you going to do in August, go raucous? As you were Grin.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2017 16:44

paxillon, raucous in August sounds great, although sadly bears no relationship to my real life Grin.

Meant to put cat toys walker rather than car toys. That sounds great long Smile.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2017 16:44

Oh for goodness sake. Cat toys. No walker. It wasn't even that exciting and I have now done three posts about giving away some cat toys Blush.
