Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Oh and I also got a bag together quickly for the charity shop this morning. Stuff I had already decided to get rid of (books/clothes) so not big decisions but another bag's worth of crap gone from the house

CotswoldStrife · 15/07/2017 18:16

Today I have:-

posted birthday cards
taken DD to activity
washed a costume that she needs
run the dishwasher without covering the contents in salt
some washing up (not at the bottom of the pile yet)
picked up numerous tissues (DD has a cold again!)

Will plough on, catch you later.

PurpleDaisies · 15/07/2017 18:24

I've been mainly sleeping after lunch out.

Ta da's
Dishwasher
Load of washing
Top up shop at lidl
Dinner on
Lots of sleep!

Longtime · 15/07/2017 19:47

My first ever ta da:

Started sorting out the garage!

PIL left Belgium four years ago giving us all sorts of important stuff rubbish from the office (fil, Bil and dh were in a family business together with pil's apartment being part office). It's been on shelves in the garage since never been touched. Microsoft XP anyone? Blackberry? Two shelves done, lots left to do. I didn't expect to have time to do this today as we were supposed to be leaving for the Netherlands but postponed until tomorrow so I'm so pleased to have made a start.

I'm also pretty much up to date with the washing now too but the ironing pile is an ironing mountain!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 15/07/2017 19:50

We are at the point where ds is shouting screaming and throwing stuff. I am at the point where i can understand mothers who walk away from their kids and never see them again.
Family hell day anyone?

Angry cleaning and sorting out powered by caffeine is happening here.

Afreshstartplease · 15/07/2017 21:17

Ty all for the well wishes!

House is a bomb site

I have tidyed the kitchen three times today and it is now a shit hole again

Sanscollier · 15/07/2017 21:23

Angry cleaning is the silver lining Einstein have some Cake.

Why hey to first ta da shelf sorting Longtime!

Congrats on your productive days Cotswold Cag Toostressy

Just logged on from country to say ...drum roll ...we have baby owls!Smile Smile

Sanscollier · 15/07/2017 21:25

Xpost Afreshstart sounds like "enjoying" not quite the right word. You must be up to your eyes in boxes. Gin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/07/2017 21:57

Hello all Wine.

Have felt slightly inspired by reading some old decluttering threads on here so have done a bit more in the cupboard of doom in the living room. Next is to deal with the various piles of stuff from that.

Afresh, brilliant news you have moved and about work hours. Brew to keep you going.

Sounds tough Einstein - I look forward to the girls growing up but also fear the teenage years. Angry cleaning sounds very productive. SmileSmile at baby owls SC.

Star for first tada longtime, especially in the dreaded garage. Purple, sleep sounds an excellent use of time. You must be shattered with EOTM (love that phrase, SC was it? Will use forever more Smile).

Glad you had dishwasher success Cotswold. Always good to get stuff out of the house to the charity shop Cag.
Hello to zoo and big wing flaps to everyone else.

Well done re: cupboard of doom Toostressy!

Missed that about yr work hrs Afreshstart - glad it worked out.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/07/2017 00:09

Angry cleaning achieved:
The front end of the lounge completely taken apart, deep cleaned, rug turned and put back together again
several loads of washing
hoovering of the hall and bottom half of the stairs
several bits and bobs done in the kitchen
2 different teas were cooked
1 storage unit from my loft was mostly emptied and part of it brought down ready for cleaning
a bag of bits for small child to have fun stick and gluing sorted
a ton of stuff sorted for the charity shop
a broken chair disassembled and taken to the tip
ds eventually gave up and decided i was not being unreasonable and put some progress into tidying his room. The books that started the argument were also moved and he went through a box of books from primary and declared the whole lot can go.
folding was done, ironing pile created, and the sock pile of doom once again grew to scary proportions
clean temporary hob and put into storage
drink waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much coffee
have a chat with ds when things calmed but it is still a bit fragile there
hoovered the porch and removed some shoes for storage elsewhere

I should attempt sleep but i never sleep well after a day of argue, plus too much caffeine. So am trying to convince myself that I don't need to bleach the bathroom to within an inch of its life and that perhaps I can curl up with a film or something. Not looking likely tbh.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/07/2017 00:26

Tbh stressy it is an ongoing aspie thing not a teen thing. A lot of teens can be lovely. Ds has always been challenging it is just part of who he is, but it is bloody exhausting and I am tired of the constant battles. Today's was the ugliest it has been since he decided that I was being unreasonable in asking him to sit down for food at the table and he hit his head on the floor until he knocked himself out when he was about 2. I suspect that there is underlying issues, probably with peers or school or something really simple to sort but his way is to pick a fight until he gets a red mist rage and clears the emotion out of his system. His approach kinda backfired today unfortunately and it is clear we have a lot more therapy work to do on this matter. And I need to sort out some proper rest bite as it has been lacking since I had an injury.

Cagliostro · 16/07/2017 07:44

Sorry Einstein that sounds hellish. ASD is just shit really isn't it? I am glad my two are diagnosed now (especially DD, DS is actually pretty easy going really) but it doesn't make day to day life any easier TBH. I wish life wasn't a battleground. I try and remember, there are reasons she is acting like this. But it just makes me despair because This Is How She Is. I shouldn't complain, it could be a lot worse TBF. I'm just not sure how to deal with the problems we do have.

Been awake a while so catching up on various dramas. Picnic party today so need to get to Sainsburys by the park and get food. Think there's probably one more wash to do, DH has done most of it. Then marathon putting-clothes-away session needed. Also DD needs to do some writing, she's doing a challenge thing over summer but the tutor said she had a bit longer this week due to being on holiday. Thankfully she's chosen the easiest task of the three options.

Cagliostro · 16/07/2017 07:44

I mean on iplayer and such, not real life dramas :o

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/07/2017 10:22

Cag Grin. Flowers to you and Einstein.

Ta da:-
All up
Kids dressed
Laundry in progress
Stripped our bed
Having deliberately lazy morning as another EOTM week approaches.

Some more bits in the cupboard of doom.

Also found this brilliant thread which has links to two other amazing organisation thread. One of them I had already read but not the other.

P.S SC, I have got the clicky links down now Smile, thanks.

Ds woke up this morning sweetness and delight so yesterday was definitely an aspie emotion release kinda thing Hmm I otoh got far too little sleep before he came in this morning, although I did do the ironing and the handwash when I should have been sleeping but couldn't.

Another long list of stuff that needs to be done today. Motivation is lacking and my temper short.

Cag
I wish life wasn't a battleground. I try and remember, there are reasons (s)he is acting like this. I'm just not sure how to deal with the problems we do have.
Yep that pretty much sums it up. And the lack of proper rest bite has really made my ability to cope with the rough patches far less. So hopefully if I can fix that much much much harder than it should be
it so be easier to deal with.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/07/2017 19:59

Ta da:-
Both DDs in bed (but not asleep)
Tiny bit of decluttering
Tea eaten and I think dishwasher is on
Sheets changed on our bed
Some cards written and sweets for school office arrived in online shop
Read a bit more of parenting book
Online food shop arrived

To do:-
Decluttering
Before bed routine
Put away rest of food shop
Find something good to watch on my phone - I like to have a box set on the go to keep me sane while tidying up
Calendar check

Figure out some kind of behaviour plan / what on earth to do as want to use the summer holidays wisely. DD2 has bitten a hole in my top tonight Sad which has upset me more than her actually biting my skin would have as it was a nice top. Debating starting a behaviour boot camp thread but wondering if I will get flamed Blush.

Big wing flaps to all, will be on later with links. Quiet on here but presume EOTM / summer related.

sneaking back in from the naughty haughty corner**

I'll be back following the plan tomorrow, the whole house is a mess again Sad had a few things going on , but hopefully won't take long to get fixed up again.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/07/2017 21:45

Good to have you back Rosa Smile.

Anyone got any recommendations for Tipp-Ex that actually works? Nobody has answered my riveting thread in chat.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/07/2017 22:46

What do you want to do with the tipp-ex?

Hello Rosa. good luck with tomo

-----
That ^ is the line line I am drawing under the weekend. Hmm

Failing that, this is the box [ ] I shall be found hiding in tomo.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/07/2017 22:59

Have had a few replies on my Tipp-ex thread now Smile. Einstein,, basically I want to cover up things on my paper calendar / work diary? When plans change etc. I am irrationally annoyed by crossings out on a calendar and can't bring myself to only write in pencil on it.

Big wing flaps to everyone. Links next.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/07/2017 23:06

Tippex is my friend, as is a dry erase pen calendar and pencils/rubber.
Tbf most people wouldn't be able to read it anyway as I generally write in code. Baffles everyone else but makes perfect sense mostly

Thanks for the links for tomo.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/07/2017 23:06

However, if you were asking about removing tippex from unwanted surfaces particularly fabric we would be handing you hankies and an ice cream tub ime it has never really worked
