Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Evening all.

I have had a lovely day in the sun with the dc today. We went to a community play event this morning and then to my sisters to play in the sprinkler this afternoon.

I am not a massive fan of tap water but do drink lots of sparkling water. The bottles that you put fruit in to infuse your water look really good if you struggle to drink plain water.

Flying wise today I did the basics and managed to get the grass cut this evening.

My dp and I were discussing our out of control shoe rack (yes our evening is that exciting) so tomorrow's mission sounds like a good one for me. I too need to concentrate on decluttering this month.

I'm off to crawl into bed. Night lovely fledglings.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/06/2017 07:34

Morning all,
My only tip for drinking more is to keep a glass by the kitchen sink and have some whenever you go into the kitchen, I've done this all my life and the DCs do too. Not very tidy though and it didn't work when I lived in shared houses. I love water and think I do drink enough generally.

Decluttering is also going to feature highly here this month, clutter levels have crept up again. I have a pre-teen DC who hates getting rid of anything and it is problematic, I can't do it by stealth as I could when she was younger. I desperately want a week off work with everyone else at school/work so I can just get on with it and all the other jobs that need doing but it's not going to happen.

CotswoldStrife · 02/06/2017 07:37

DD woke up before 5.00am due to a bad dream, have been downstairs for about an hour and a half now. Trying to find quiet bits of housework to do. I think today will involve a lot of coffee!

I am not a fan of plain water either, did see a tip on a FB group to freeze slices (I do half or quarter slices) of lemon and add that to water. It's really nice.

Afreshstartplease · 02/06/2017 07:56

I too struggle to drink water. I love tea.

Need to do lots of decluttering here also as moving next month!

Yesterday I did three bags of toys / kids tat to the tip

Up at 6 with the baby

Sanscollier · 02/06/2017 07:59

Hello all!

Same as Cotswold in terms of sleep last night. Hot, humid, been bitten by mozzies and woke up every few hours or so. Have also got a headache over my left eye this time - bum! It appears I can't even tolerate half a glass of red wine any more in my old age (sob) although this weather doesn't help!

DD also slept badly and has a pain in her hip. She is utterly exhausted atm poor thing. We have no half term break this term (save for the odd day off here and there: Ascension/Pentecost etc) and so it's a long one. Also, v tough going in the lead up to obligatory state exams; which you HAVE to pass here in order to progress to the next school year; it is not automatic; hence lots of stress!

The only water drinking "thing" I do is to alternate. So I have cup of tea - water - cup of tea - water. And I also drink plain hot water in winter (I know this is wierd but I quite like it.)

Dh and I have a meeting this morning. And then I might just watch the Oaks later on Wink

BBL to catch up with personals!

I didn't get the job - that was a crap way to wake up meh

Afreshstartplease · 02/06/2017 08:32

Moan away!

I've just cracked open a 1.5l bottle of water that I'll aim to drink today. Quite like the alternating idea so have it beside my cuppa tea.

Yesterday I also sorted through the cutlery drawer and threw out some bits. Determined not to take crap to new house.

I've listed all the nursery furniture and pram to be sold at the next NCT sale. I can't be bothered dealing with ebay and will gladly take a 30% commission fee hit. I just need to be rid of it all now.

Currently got 3 bags of clothes to go to the charity shop next week. Will send dh up to the loft to bring down a few boxes to sort through.

Need a plan of action for the dreaded garage clear out. I am not looking forward to it but have made a bit of progress by putting old toys out on the drive for people to take away for free.

Sanscollier · 02/06/2017 12:12

ERRATUM warning!!
Bloody hell everyone I am so sorry! I have just got back from my meeting and taken a look at the links and see that I have written "May" instead of "June" in the links!! And you were all so very kind and politely ignored it!!

I must be going stark raving mad!

Can you believe I was a copy-editor in a former life Blush?

Truly losing my marbles.

I hope the links themselves are still sound though. Would you let me know if not please because I don't trust myself anymore! Confused

Talk about confusing everybody!!

Combination of rushing and fuddled middle aged brain I think!

Apologies again!

Rushing back out now - will catch up with personals later!

OP posts:
CotswoldStrife · 02/06/2017 12:22

One word is not worth worrying about SC, you could have easily got away with that! So you did copy editing? That explains your fab attention to detail in the personals each day a missing aspect of my own thread skillz Always easy to miss an error in bold print or a headline (I would normally mention the Grauniad at this stage but I think it's been overtaken by the FailOnline version in the error stakes).

Sorry to hear that Mermaids it's always a bit disappointing not to get a job even if you don't really want it.

Decluttering here and filling bags with clothing and old unused present. The 'art of discarding' book says that a present's function is fulfilled when it has been handed over (it has acted as a gift) so if it's not something you will use dispose of it straightaway instead of holding on to it for years as I would so bring on the bin liners!

Sanscollier · 02/06/2017 12:22

A very warm welcome to DisorderedAllsorts!

Oh no Mermaids that's awful!! So sorry to hear that, you must be really disappointed. As the interview went so well, it is very likely that it is nothing whatsoever to do with you as a candidate, rather budgetary or other personnel/organisational issues. This very thing is happening to someone I know at the moment - they were virtually offered a job - now prospective employers are dithering about firming up the contract.

OP posts:
Sanscollier · 02/06/2017 12:42

Thank you Cotswold. And don't be daft, your thread-leading skills are superb and not utterly batty and disorganised like mine.

I could tell you some very funny stories about books on the verge of being printed that had been checked over and over through three separate stages of copy-editing, proof-reading ms, galley proofs etc etc, all by different people, all of whom had missed an error in the title which was printed in something like a 38pt font on the title page!! And a particular trade history book full of expensive colour photos (over 18,000 copies printed) in which the middle section was glued in upside down!! Grin Ah, happy days!

I still do a bit here and there but sadly (as is all too evident) my skills are no longer current. Things have moved from hard copy to screen with lots of complex attendant technological adaptations and as I read and write (badly) in French a fair bit nowadays, I don't appear to be able to spell in English reliably anymore!

Anyway, must dash, bbl!!

More power to your elbow with the decluttering!!

We now have a few bags of clothes (some for recycling, some to be donated or weighed in) so tomorrow's aim is to actually get the bags out.of.the.house. This has been an issue in the past Grin

Don't think I'll be up too late after I've finished my wine and I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight. Bought DD a film tonight - Sing - in the hope that it would cheer her up (she is worried about having another bad dream tonight) and it was quite funny actually. It is always a bonus when a children's film is funny for adults because not all of them are yes Smurfs, I mean you

mermaidsandunicorns · 02/06/2017 23:20

Thankyou for all the love ❤️
It's crap as they'd booked me in for the work trial and then took someone else on which is a bit like getting dumped by text in my book! Il keep hunting just finished work now and am hurting a lot
