Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Maybe I need to declutter the zoolets to have less chaos?!ShockSad

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/05/2017 22:24

Rosa, thanks for the reminder. Just ordered a photo card for my Dad for Father's Day Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/05/2017 22:28

Just deciphered your post zoo Grin. Yes, problem with the DDs knowing cuddlies here too. On the plus side tonight I have decluttered two board games and some plastic plates and cups (can go to playgroup so feel a warm glow!).

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 30/05/2017 22:32

It would probably be quieter, less messy and less stressy Zoo but I fear you might miss them.

Cag I was going to say how the fuck does one have an empty loft until you described it. Our loft is fully insulated and boarded (walls and floor) which means it is optimal for storage. It is not a good thing.

Moving in May - does physio count?

my flying might be a bit non existant until end of August. I am busy elsewhere again and currently just casting on all the christmas presents the yarn shop had a sale and I couldn't resist so tried to be practical about what I bought but also trying to declutter stash so urm yeah, its my excuse

Stilllivinginazoo · 30/05/2017 22:36

toostressy I remember with heavy heart we gifted our beautiful wooden toy kitchen to a church playgroup. Felt good and couple weeks later they kindly sent us a card saying thank you and how popular it was.nucecto think lits kids getting pleasure from our much loved out grown things

Yeh I might miss them bereft without them seems I am destined to fight the chaos indefinitely

PurpleDaisies · 30/05/2017 22:39

Moving in May was a washout for me, unless you count walking around school as part of work. To be fair, if I count carrying books around, squatting to talk to children and the amount of time waking back and forth the photocopier I reckon that's not a bad workout.

Any guesses what June's habit will be?

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 30/05/2017 22:48

my moving may...

Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .
PurpleDaisies · 30/05/2017 22:49

Grin einstein. If crochet counts I've been training for a marathon.

Cagliostro · 30/05/2017 22:50

I gave a lot of our toys and books to the playgroups, school etc at the time which felt nice. Also my best friend is a reception teacher so I still pass on nice bits and pieces. It helps because they know it's going to Aunty B!

I suppose I have sort of Moved in May as I have started walking a bit more and doing more housework and such. More due to pregnancy/labour-related panic than FlyLady though!

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/05/2017 23:30

I'm moving a lot less due to plantar fasciitis Sad. However I have got plenty of crochet to keep me going Smile.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 30/05/2017 23:53

Ah the one that needs a golf ball for sorting... Ouch sorry Whoknows it is miserable Sad

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/05/2017 00:07

The golf ball/tennis ball/DS's spiky sensory ball do make a big difference but the relief is temporary.

Slurrycart · 31/05/2017 07:17

Bloomin' 'eck people - only nipped out for an evening meeeting - and now we have 38 posts!! Grin Grin

Welcome everyone!!

I will be away for most of day but back to night (under proper nn) to catch up with everyone!!

Have a productive anti-procrastination day fledglings!

mermaidsandunicorns · 31/05/2017 18:29

Evening all x
Interview went really well!! The guy didn't ask me anything really as he was really excited as I had such good experience and my last job fits exactly with how the company wants to expand Grin he's asked me back for a work trial on wed so providing that goes ok I might be lucky!!
Merlets are home from grandma mermaid I missed them loads. Met up with my sister who's got a baby due any day as well which was lovely

Have a lovely evening all xx

PurpleDaisies · 31/05/2017 18:32

That sounds really positive mermaids, well done. I'll have my fingers crossed for the trial.

I've had a lovely day shopping, lunching and eating cake with a friend. I really miss working part time. Not much proper flying but dinner/tomorrow's lunch is in the oven, I've done a wash plus dispatched dh to do some kitchen cleaning.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/05/2017 19:48

Hello all, am confused but I think I am mainly on the May thread still Smile. That's great news Mermaids. Your day sounds lovely Purple.

foxessocks · 31/05/2017 20:48

Totally missed this thread...doh! Feel very late to the party!

Sanscollier · 31/05/2017 21:30

[flys over on broomstick from previous thread and crash lands in to haughty corner Grin Wink]

Evening everyone! Hope all ok!

Don't worry Foxes you are not late at all - we are just getting going over here despite the 43 posts on day one Grin Wink

Not that I meant to put people off posting on here earlier btw - the more the merrier !!

That is fab news about the interview Mermaids congratulations!!! Flowers Wine Wishing you very best of luck for the trial but you will smash it!!

Purple eating cake and delegating chores to dh sounds like the perfect Flying day to me Wink (And much deserved after the flying chairs!)

Ouch, sorry to hear you are suffering Whoknows that sounds v painful indeed.

Cag/Zoo/Toostressy dd's school's parents assoc have just (v helpfully) announced that they will be organising a brocante selling second hand toys and clothes in Sept so I know what I will be doing over the summer! I agree it does really help giving away stuff when you know it is going to a good cause.

As I said on the other thread, and as I say every year, I have been utterly crap at moving in May Blush

(Haven't even done much crafting either like you Einstein; I do admire how you persist with it through think and thin and building works!! And Star Star for advance Christmas planning! )

Purple officially the new habit for this month is drinking water but think I need to start moving as well!

Great that the planning days are working Rosa! You sound v organised! Star

Whey hey to empty loft space Cag!

Agree with ¨Mercury about us all missing the dc-generated mess and clutter one day Smile

Afreshstart [stern look over pince nez] remember there is no such thing as "getting worse" with Flylady because you are never behind! (This is especially applicable where infants and babies come in to the mix too.)

Frantic waves to Cotswold Honu Grey Bluepheasant and everyone I have inevitably missed!

Links for tomorrow coming up!

foxessocks · 31/05/2017 21:40

Ooh drinking more water...that's a relatively simple habit I might actually manage that one!

Rosabellajames · 31/05/2017 21:55

I didn't do much moving in May - I did do a Zumba DVD in a vain attempt to get back into the swing of exercise ( I used to be quite fit, exercised all the way through pregnancy and even attended my local Zumba class on the morning that my waters broke! All the wiggling must have wriggled dd2 out haha) I was really motivated but I struggle to get the normal tasks done on a daily basis so adding 'me time' into the day isn't happening yet. I'm sure it will as the months go by and the 'zones' become easier to manage.
I haven't really got much more done today, I don't know whether my hay fever has started or whether I've got a cold but I feel dreadful this afternoon so I concentrated on keeping the kids alive, watered and fed Grin Looking forward to getting back into the dining room, I think the entrance will be decluttered in less than 5 mins all decluttering times will be spent in the dining room. I have lots of paperwork to sort through that's been piled up from this time last month Blush

Here's to more flying in June, I'm so grateful for this thread - thankyou !!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/05/2017 22:06

My restful evening has disappeared! Trying to sort out childcare which has fallen through for tomorrow. Aaaagh. Kept up with my other thread out of politeness as am the OP and there are actually good suggestions on there but need to sort the childcare out. Will be back on here later / tomorrow.

CotswoldStrife · 31/05/2017 22:29

Parking myself here for June, new month new start (I say that every month because I need it!) . Had a nice day today, craft session today out of the house so someone else had the clean up job and another activity booked for tomorrow that DD is looking forward to (cooking activity).

House in poor condition though, and we have just ordered some more stuff to refit the ensuite so will no doubt be tripping over bits of that as it starts gradually arriving in a few days Hmm

DD bravely got rid of a few bits to the chazza yesterday, including a ride-on item that she was way too big for, but loved. We didn't realise until she showed us afterwards, but it had streamers on the handles and she pulled a ribbon out of it as a memento, bless her! She wants a replacement ... however she was really good this morning at the hospital so she's been a Star overall.

Time to drink wine, and clutch my twinset and pearls in the haughty corner at the state of my own house Grin

Cagliostro · 31/05/2017 23:13

Ooh drinking water now that I can manage! Although I am still shamefully and unfrugally sticking to Evian only at the mo because other water is triggering nausea 😂😱😳 Thankfully that is easing up a bit now. So should be back to normal soon.

I do find it hard to drink enough water generally, I love the taste (usually!) but I just forget and feel uncomfortable and sort of... sloshy?! If I have too much

Staying at mum's for a few nights as of tomorrow, this has reminded me to take my little squeezy bottle of squash with me in case the water tastes funny

Cagliostro · 31/05/2017 23:14

Nice day today as I managed my workout DVD in the morning (I'm even going to take it to mum's) then took DD to a new gym class which she loved, and then had family game night with DSCs :)
