Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I won't be on much this weekend, we have 3 shows, an audition 2 hours away, a football tournament and work over today and tomorrow. A nice 430 start to get organised this morning!! Off to get a shower ready for work, let the madness commence !! Have a fab weekend everyone xx

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/06/2017 08:10

Morning all Brew.

Wow, Rosa, busy weekend!

Lazy morning here so far but have managed to have a shower. Just going to get on with morning routine now.

To do:-
No dancing this morning so will have to fill the time somewhow. Last lazy morning until summer holidays though so am happy to do nothing if the girls are Grin.
DH at work
Tumble drier came yesterday so need to try that out and also do a quick wash as had to move washing machine to get it in so need to check no leaks!
More decluttering
The girls have a party later on - one of those where I think I have to stay and be sociable. Need to do card and present. Depending on the mood I might get them to do my Dad's Father's Day card too.

Big wing flaps to all.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/06/2017 08:11

Welcome DisorderedAllsorts Smile

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 03/06/2017 09:56

And I thought an 8am alarm on a saturday was bad. Shock 4:30am start to be organised does hope no one remembers she used to be up at 4am regularly

ta da
1st load of washing on
painting that needed touching up done
washing carried upstairs for putting away.
Bed cleared ready for ignoring paper work sorting
About to grab ds' still not finished birthday present and get that done. - it should take probably all day, only 80+ 3inch squares to crochet and assemble.... Hmm

DisorderedAllsorts · 03/06/2017 10:01

Hello All I've dipped in and out of these threads before under various name changes. I always found them very helpful and friendly, a nice community of fellow cleaners.

My dh is a semi hoarder so I've struggled with his habits over the years. Our house is clear now but the garage is the danger zone. We want to move next year so need to have a good clear out and keep the house sparkling.

CotswoldStrife · 03/06/2017 15:49

Welcome Allsorts, good to have you with us.

DD and I did another craft activity this morning, it was lovely. Spent the rest of the day waiting for a delivery that arrived a couple of hours late due to traffic and have also complained to customer services about an item that we were unable to order at the store - so will see if they can come up with that for us.

Have made slight impression on the kitchen, will keep on with that. No bags of clothes have yet left the building Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/06/2017 17:50

Ta da:-
Stuff to charity shop (only achieved as DDs at a party - turned out I didn't have to stay)
Went for a run
Went for impromptu meal in town - amazingly both DDs well behaved throughout Grin

To do:-
Sort DD2 out with bedtime etc. DH is taking DD1 out tonight to see a community theatre thing - hope it goes well.
15 mins decluttering

Sanscollier · 03/06/2017 18:14

Hi all - hope you are having good weekends!

Having lovely family day here. Guests arriving shortly so I have precisely ten mins in which to post links for tomorrow so doing it right now!

It's time for a zone change and of course the Flylady website isn't showing the correct info (this may change later tonight) so I've done the best I can with the information it is showing right now.

If it is easy to work out another way though - and I am just being dim - please let me know ta very much!! Smile

*

The summary for Sunday 4th June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 4 for Sunday June 4th is here . It is a bit of a 'meh' one about writing the first two steps down on post-it notes which is meant to form the basis of your control journal. Most of us don't do this tbh.

I am assuming that (those fledglings who do zone work at weekends) will be starting in Zone 2 tomorrow: Kitchen, Back Porch, Laundry Room, Pantry here.

I'm afraid I have to assume this, as looking at the Flylady website as it stands now, the Zones when accessed through "Today" or "Zones" are still listing as May zones Confused. Perhaps the Flylady website will catch up later tonight and list correct dates then? Here's hoping!

Anyway, according to "Sneak peak" and "Missions", Zone 1 work ends on June 3 so I hope I have this right.

Anyway, spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone (if you do zone work at weekends that is).

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 2 (if you are at that stage and if you do zone work at weekends) is here.

No mission on Sunday because it is the weekend!

The daily focus for Sunday renewing your spirit in other words, taking time out to do something for yourself which leaves you feeling re-energised.

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

Hi everyone, hope you are all having good weekends so far.

Welcome back to AllSorts

Zoo I saw on the May thread that you were wanting to keep some treasured childhood books for future family generations. I have done exactly that with my beloved Puddle Lane ladybird books. I totally put my love of reading, and the fantasy genre in particular, down to those books and the wonderful memories I have of my mum reading them to me whilst I sat on her lap. I kept them all, and am now reading them to my DS as bed time stories. I am loving reading them again and seeing him getting absorbed in the stories; it's just wonderful!!

Mermaids sorry to hear about the job; it all sounded so positive the bastards don't deserve you anyway

I'm chuffed to bits with all the jobs the handyman did for us. The finishing touches will be insisting that DH finally helps me put up all our pictures tomorrow.

A little bit of flying done today, plus a family trip out to a local working farm - DS got to see sheep being milked, bottle fed and held a five day old lamb, fed some goats and groomed a pony.

Sanscollier · 03/06/2017 18:20

Oh well Mermaids if they are prepared to treat someone as badly as that then it sounds as if you are well off out of it! Very much their loss Flowers!

Sorry your dd has been having bad dreams Cotswold. Hope the film did the trick! Star for clothes decluttering!

Crikey Rosa that is not just Flying it is positively soaring Smile Halo

Sounds as though you are well on track with your decluttering DisorderedAllsorts. Particularly challenging when it is someone else's clutter too Star

Waves to Toostressy and Einstein and everyone else!

Have a lovely evening everybody!

I was devastated a while back as I was desperately hunting for a copy of bottersnikes and gumbles which I remember reading as a child. It's an Australian book and has been out of print for years so I had given up hope finding one. Then randomly at Christmas I found my old copy at my mums house! She had saved all my old books and now my boys read them.

I was a massive fan of puddle lane too and ladybird although some of the illustrations were a bit creepy

Lifebeginsatforty · 03/06/2017 19:10

Delurking ( I used to be on here for about a year, about four years ago and then we moved to Munich, and I fell off the thread) just to say that Bottersnikes and Gumbles is back in print, and available from Waterstones. We spent years looking for it because my husband's from Australia. I think it's been made into a TV series now.

CotswoldStrife · 03/06/2017 19:49

www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/bottersnikes-and-gumbles

Link to the TV series - I had no idea about the books, DD is not keen on the series so we don't watch it.

Waves to Lifebegins, are you still in Munich at the moment?

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/06/2017 20:39

I've still got my childhood copy of Bottersnikes and Gumbles Smile

mermaidsandunicorns · 03/06/2017 20:50

Oh my god I love you lot

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/06/2017 22:43

Ooh old childhood books, love them! Used to adore Puddle Lane. My favourites that I read now to my DCs are Lucy and Tom. Even though DD1 is too old for them now really.

I am shattered so no lists but was fairly productive today. Still ended day late and with bag not sorted for tomorrow though - how does everyone else get these things done!!!???

DD1 loved the play and DD2 and I had a nice time playing a board game Smile.

Rosabellajames · 04/06/2017 06:33

Another very early start this morning.

Ta da
Kitchen sides cleared
Cooker tops cleaned
Chicken breasts cooked for pasta salad and sarnies
Salad prepped

To do
Make everyone a Sunday morning fry up
Survive the day (dd audition & show, ds football tournament and dd2 who is refusing to sleep at night or in the day !)

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend Smile

Lifebeginsatforty · 04/06/2017 06:45

Yes, still near Munich. Just bought a house in our small commuter town, and will be moving in in the winter, so I guess we're staying here.

Afreshstartplease · 04/06/2017 08:12

Why have I never heard of any of these books Confused

Hope anyone in London is safe Flowers

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/06/2017 08:57

I don't know if it's still at my parents house but I remember making a clay model of Chank the bottersnike when I was at school, it was glazed and fired and I was very proud of it.

Had a blitz on the downstairs of the house yesterday - DH did more than me TBH but I was busy with laundry and gardening. Had friends over in the afternoon with their DCs which was nice, then spent Saturday evening volunteering at a swimming gala, joy of joys.

mermaidsandunicorns · 04/06/2017 09:43

afresh

If you find them anywhere have a look they are awesome books especially bottersnikes and gumbles.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/06/2017 12:33
