Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Placemarking for the new thread! Thanks for setting up. The last few weeks have been crazy. Been away camping last weekend. DH away for work and DD away on school trip so washing and laundry overflowing....just getting back into it. Checked in last night and caught up with the living room tasks but need to catch up with the thread. Hope you are all well.

Waves to everyone - here's to a good June!

***

The summary for Friday 2nd May is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 2 for Fri 2nd May is here. Yes, it's the controversial one, getting dressed to lace-up shoes and putting on a bit of slap, the minute you get up in the morning! Some of us do and some of us don't, but for newcomers/lurkers this is the rationale behind it (scroll down).

We are in Zone 1 atm: Entrance, Front Porch & Dining Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 1 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Friday's mission is here. A multi-mission which may take longer than 15 mins! Put out all the hot spots that are smouldering in Zone 1 i.e. the shoes by the front door, the bags in the hall, the piles of junk mail on the dining room table!

The daily focus for Friday is decluttering purses, handbags and cars. Oh yes and it's date night too!

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Small steps fledglings!

G'night all!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/06/2017 21:06

Hello all. I am wondering how I get into the haughty corner Grin? I am drinking Wine if that counts? I am also ignoring the evening routine for a bit while I declutter some of a drawer. Have realised I need to focus on my 15 mins decluttering a day to see any progress. 5 mins a day just isn't enough. I already drink loads of water so I think I might make decluttering my June habit.

Ta da:-
5 mins decluttering done so far
DH had to stay home and take annual leave today as childcare fell through and I really couldn't be off today. Since he was home with just DD1 he did home bleugh, some shopping and helped her ride her bike without stabilisers Smile.

To do:-
10 mins decluttering
Some semblance of evening routine
Put away the laundry lurking everywhere it at least put it in a crate

Re. children, I am 100% done at the two I have so at least getting rid of things as DD2 outgrows them is pretty easy.

Rosabellajames · 01/06/2017 21:19

For the first time I have completed everything on my list woohoo !! It'll possibly not happen again for a while Haha I'm cream crackered!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/06/2017 21:36

Well done Rosa
toostressy haughty corner just as accessible as naughty one was!! Come on in!!

Well I've had 4rows dd2 .lil zoo and ds went upstairs and took cover in round 2Sadthey are now opt fir the safety in numbers principle and are "having a sleepover" in Lil zoos bed together!unfortunately this means I stuck dd2 as she's adamant not sharing a room "with them" (sigh)

Thankfully she's out another sleepover tom night(all being well)with added bonus their daughter attends fun n faith group and will escort them to the carwash their groups running at another church to raise funds for their group sat morningSmile

I've crashed and burned ton the flying front. Try again tomorrow!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/06/2017 21:37

PS anyone got tips on drinking more.I am a bloody nightmare for get this time of the night and suddenly realising not had a single drink all day!!(don't seem to feel thirst)

foxessocks · 01/06/2017 21:38

Well done Rosa it's a good feeling when you complete a list!

SC it's just a Jamie Oliver recipe that he apparently came up with when his wife was pregnant as it's all she wanted to eat so that's what he called it in his book, it's basically just a really tasty sausage pasta with lots of fennel and oregano.

foxessocks · 01/06/2017 21:40

zoo I think I need tips on drinking more too as I completely forgot that was the mission despite saying only yesterday that I would give this one a try! Blush

I don't drink as much water as I should ,I usually have tea!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/06/2017 21:44

zoo, a glass / bottle of water in every room you are in regularly. It makes more washing up but you are much more likely to drink it. If you pour one glass in the kitchen the likelihood is you will not get back to the kitchen to drink or refill it. Always have a glass of water with meals even if you also have wine another drink. When you make a tea or coffee pour a glass of water too. You must have some water before you drink your tea. Glass of fruit juice / water with breakfast. At least you are starting the day with some fluids. Carry a bottle of water with you when you are out.

You need to make it a habit. It's a standing joke that I always have a glass of water on the go. When you nag the DCs to drink have one yourself.

Can you tell I like drinking water Grin?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/06/2017 21:45

Xpost foxes. If you usually have tea then have a glass of water too. It doesn't need to be one or the other.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/06/2017 21:46

Also (on a roll now), if you don't like the taste, iced water with lemon, or squash is better than no water at all.

mermaidsandunicorns · 01/06/2017 22:04

Home from hustings

My question got asked first which put me on the spot a bit but was really good

Will do a good blitz tomorrow

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/06/2017 22:29

For those that forget to drink: set a reminder on your phone/the kitchen timer (or whatever works for you) for regular periods.

Stomp was lovely but not long enough probably a good thing atm

CotswoldStrife · 01/06/2017 23:28

Wine has been flowing all half term here Blush

DD loved cooking activity today, and had lovely fresh pasta and pesto sauce for tea tonight. It has made me realise that I need to make a bit more effort with the fresh food - there are a couple of nights that I'm just not in early enough to cook anything complicated but the fresh pesto was just so lovely.

DH has ordered stuff to renovate the ensuite and it will be arriving over the next fortnight. Tomorrow's stuff will be easy to hide store but I'll have more trouble stashing a spare toilet and basin around the house somewhere. I suspect that more Wine will be involved, and possibly the twinset and pearl clutch for the haughty corner again.

Some laundry has been both washed and dried (go me) and half the washing up has been done. Always wine tomorrow ....
