Hello all and welcome to the March Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier. Jump in where you are.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others :).

Since last month seemed to be ok I'll follow the same format of personals throughout the day (or in the evening if I haven't had a chance in the day) and links in the evening. Please, though, let me know if you want me to change anything or if I have posted anything wrong.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks again SC and Cotswold as I have basically copied your notes again.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website www.flylady.net - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

You can post what we you done (ta das) and any to do lists if you want to- I definitely find this helpful.

Morning all, doing my usual Saturday morning of keeping one DD occupied while the other does their activity. In cafe with DD2 at the moment. DH doing food shop and home bleugh.

To do:-
Buy trainers for DD1 - she didn't tell us they hurt until yesterday despite us going shopping for shoes with her last week Hmm.
Occupy DD2 while this happens
New job forms as couldn't be bothered to do those last night

OP posts:
foxessocks · 18/03/2017 13:29

See you later SC when you're back in the world of WiFi!

Good luck with the shoe shopping toostressy - an expensive business!

Ta das
Daily routine done
Dh hoovering whole house
Dishwasher unloaded and loaded for the second time already!

To do
Hoping to do some gardening this afternoon if the weather stays ok
Make a plan for tomorrow as dh is working and I'm on my own with the little ones - any ideas anyone?!
Cook dinner later but it's an easy one tonight of fishcakes and chips

Pretty relaxed day here really, we had a nice trip to the garden centre this morning and had a cream tea so just going to potter this afternoon and if i get any extra housework or decluttering done it will be a bonus!

I've also had a book on the go for about three months and have only read the first two pages (read them about 3 times) . Does anyone else really struggle to concentrate on a book and never find the time to sit down and read properly? I used to love reading but since having children I find it so hard to get through a book. I don't seem to have any time for myself apart from a few hours in the evening and then I'm too exhausted to do anything other than watch TV.

Sorry - turned into a bit of a moan there! I'm not really complaining I guess it's just life with small children!

BluePheasant · 18/03/2017 13:55

Hello all! Just checking in. So painting the banister yesterday turned into having to scrape layers of old gloss off the hand rails first as it was too chipped to just paint over the top. Nightmare job, haven't even start painting yet and my elbow is now very sore! Quite possibly the worst diy I've ever undertaken, tedious is an understatement!
Having lots of cups of tea and catching up with things on radio iplayer to keep me from going insane! Weather is pretty grey and drizzly here so I might as well keep going and get it done!

Am finally at a stage where I can open the tin of paint! Will catch up on thread later Smile Brew

Castlelough · 18/03/2017 15:16

Feeling much better thanks everyone. Dh was brilliant while I was unwell and really helped to keep things ticking over. He has definitely improved at pulling his weight around the house.

Ta Da:

  • Everyone dressed, fed and out the door...
  • Lovely couple of hours at play centre with the dds, and delicious coffee and scone for me!
  • Laundry rebooted.

To Do:

  • More laundry.
  • Dinner prep and tidy away.
  • 15 mins zone cleaning if I can manage it. Already decluttered the only cupboard in the bathroom whilst nesting!

Mermaid that was some achievement yesterday, especially the ironing of same!
Oh hugs Afresh for nocturnal wakings with baby are hard to recover from.
emem - impressive when dinner is in the slow cooker by 8am!
SC best of luck with your roofers!
Foxes trip to garden centre sounds heavenly! What are you planting?
Blue hope painting is going better now you have the elbow work put in!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 15:33

Had mid afternoon slump but done an exercise DVD with DD2 and feel a bit more energetic now so am back on it while she has a rest with a bit of telly.

Ta da:-
Exercise DVD
DH out with DD1 and apparently they have successfully bought trainers Smile.

To do:-
Make Brew
Laundry

DD1 and DH probably back very soon so then it will be late afternoon grumpiness and sorting out dinner.

foxessocks · 18/03/2017 15:45

castle nothing hugely exciting we got some grass seed and some compost! Been pruning and weeding. Need to do more tidying the garden before we can plant anything nice. Although we did buy a lovely cherry tree a few weeks ago!

We've been in the garden for an hour or so and I'm feeling pretty worn out now but in a good way. Back inside now and dd is watching some TV while I feed the baby. Dh is still out there!

Toostressy well done on the exercise dvd I haven't done one for ages oops.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 16:09

Cag, just belatedly saying well done to your DH on the sports class - it sounds brilliant. foxes, I'm not sure whether you do play dates (I love them as long as parents stay but they seem to be hated on Mumsnet) but that was always my go to option at weekends if DH working. If that's not an option, dare I say soft play Grin? Failing that possibly tire them out somehow (trip to park if weather ok) in the morning in the hope of a more restful afternoon. Glad you're feeling better Castle. BluePheasant,Star, that seems like a miserable job.

foxes, re the book reading. I have to admit I don't really try. I know it's bad but I have to read textbooks for my job, read to both DDs, have DD1 read to me. I don't really want to read in any spare time I get for myself. I did used to love it though pre DC.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2017 17:52

foxes it gets bit easier as get older scrape in a 20min read.I tend try n flop n read at least 2nights a week, going up earlier and read in bed!
Manic here.dp has IBS again so mad dash to town after weigh in veg at cafe to get gift for dd2 sleep over at friends and couple bits wanted for lil zoo residential trip(dad was scheduled to do this whilst I worked).dash back.one church member drove us dd2 sleepover(as other side of town), back to cafe.was 3.30 got in then needed pop shops.
After lunch reclaim front room from bags dumped from town and wash floor
Wash on
Spent bit time with Lil zoo

Absolutely wrecked. I've spent past 3days on feet with no sit downs, breaks for food/drinks from 6am- past 4pm.insanity!!

afresh hope you get some sleep tonight. Nocturnal babies are less then cute- if teens had to care them thru the night.they wouldn't contemplate having any for a very very longtime!!
I've finally sat down and my lonely Kitty is now in residence in my lap, looking cross I've been out and left him so long today

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2017 17:55

sc if the way to hell is paved good intentions I'll be seeing you on that path.I have loads good intention offers the clutter a brief sideways glance
Hope round 2with workmen goes well

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 18:02

zoo, hope you get some time to snuggle your kitty tonight. Afresh, hope you get some time to rest! SC, I love organised mum stuff. It makes me feel organised Grin.

ememem and dani, you both sound very productive! mermaids, hope work was ok.

Big wing flaps to all. Just had tea here and both children couldn't sit properly at the table again. Debating starting a thread. Anyone got any tips to keep them at the table?

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2017 18:14

toostressy when zoolets were small(preschool) you ate at table, got down you were finished,no more food
We talk a lot whilst eating and sometimes about inane things like what does green taste like when eat broccoli etc...manners come in time says she whose ds STILL eats like pig in trough and is messy little Herbert that inhales his food
Once at preschool sit til everyone finished x amount(sandwich part of lunch)was standard.I had lousy sleepers, more than anything else so they've been relatively easy with food (and are all greedy/hungry all the time)
I've no choice sit with cat.his claws are firmly hold me in place even tho he is now asleep!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 18:28

Awww cat sounds lovely. Thanks zoo. We are about two months in from properly enforcing everyone stay at the table and seem to be making hardly any progress Sad. DD1 kept trying to get off her seat and then DD2 poured her drink into her pudding so that was the end of yet another meal.

Had better add reading a parenting book to my to do list.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 18:30

I find it so hard to keep conversation going when they are messing around or risking getting their food all down them / spilling drinks / complaining about the food Sad.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 19:05

I'm cackling at the thought of being organised and wise Grin. I wish!!!!

Welcome ndo4000, have a look through the thread and the Flylady website. Every evening whoever is leading the thread (me this month) posts links for the next day so the relevant bits of the website are close to hand. I'll be doing that later. For now I am getting a shower and drinking beer Smile.

Welcome ndo :) what is this organised home of which you speak?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/03/2017 19:18

Cag Grin. ndo, go to the getting started bit of the Flylady website.www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/ but for goodness sake don't sign up for the emails! There are 1000s of them.

You can also follow the system loosely if that works better for you. I find I crash and burn if I try to follow it perfectly.

I actually achieved some antiprocrastination today! (I know it's not Wednesday) We've started looking into balance transfers (never done it before and paying stupid interest on a CC debt) and applied for a refund of packaged account fees (DH's - I still need to find the right ID in order to change my account type at the bank Hmm)
